Villa reach next round - UEFA Cup Qualifying AVilla 1 Odense 0
Aston Villa reached the final round of qualifiers for this seasons UEFA Cup competition with a 1-0 win over Danish side Odense yesterday.
A goal by winger Ashley Young early in the second half was enough to see Villa go through 3-2 on aggregate, and to be fair they never really looked troubled during the match.
The game was marred however by a serious injury to Villa defender Wilfred Bouma. The Dutch international dislocated his ankle early in the first half and now looks likely to miss a large part of the season. Ironically Bouma was replaced by Gareth Barry who got a surprisingly good welcome form the majority of the 35,000 crowd.
His appearance in this competition does not rule him out of Champions league games should as expected the England midfield joins Liverpool before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
