Venus retains title - Wimbledon.

Venus Williams retained her title and claimed her 5th Ladies Singles title in all with a 7-5 6-4 win over sister Serena on Centre Court yesterday.

The Final was a technically high quality affair between undoubtedly the two best players in this years competition but it never quite made the "classic" grade.

However Venus did well to overcome her younger siblings opening onslaught when she was in fact 4-2 down in the first set, to steadily draw level then go past her opponent.

At 28 Venus still has enough time to challenge the record 9 titles of Martina Navratilova depending on her motivation.

To show there were no hard feelings Venus teamed up with Serena later in the evening to take the Ladies Doubles title 6-2 6-2 against Lisa Raymond and Sam Stosar in a one side but entertaining match.

The sisters who were incredibly only seeded 11 in the competition cruised through to the Final without dropping a set, and now have the incredible record of 6 Ladies doubles titles from 6 Grand Slam events.

The Mens Doubles Final saw Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic the number 2 seeds beat Jonas Bjorkman and Kevin Ullyett 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-2 victory.

It was a deserved win for the 2nd seeds as the only conceded one break point in the whole match but it was a sad end to the Wimbledon career of Bjorkman, who is retiring this year.
It was the 129th match at Wimbledon 95 of which had ended in victories a great record by any ones standards.
