Venus and Serena set up family Final - Wimbledon

The Williams sisters made sure that the Ladies Singles prize money stayed in the family this year by setting up their 3rd Wimbledon Final meeting.

Venus will be going for her 5th title and Serena her 3rd and it is fair to say that both girls have hit form at just the right time after an indifferent season for both.

Neither sister has dropped a set in this years event and the Final will be fascinating with i expect Venus just edging the eve in 3 sets.

Venus over came number 5 seed Elena Dementieva in her Semi 6-1 7-6 where the Russian always looked to be troubled by the power of Venus`s serve, in particular her first serve which the Russian only managed 10 points off in the entire match.

Serena was in equally impressive form against Zheng of China a wild card entrant for this years tournament and who has donated her prize money to the Earthquake appeal in her home province (over paid, spoilt footballers please take note!).

Serena won 6-2 7-6 and again it was the power of her game which her smaller opponent could not handle.

The last mens Semi Final place was finally settled after over 5 hours of tennis and 2 days when
Schuettler of Germany beat Clement of France 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 8-6 and he now goes on to face Rafa Nadal in todays Semi.

The odds are incredibly in the favour of Nadal as the 32 year old German must be physically and mentally spent after a classic encounter with the Frenchman. The 5 hour 12 minute match was the equal second longest in Wimbledon history on beaten by the 5 hours 28 minutes it took Greg Holmes' to beat Todd Witsken in in 1989.

On bright spot for Britain yesterday was the fact that 14 year old Laura Robson the youngest girl left in the girls singles and already conqueror of the 2nd seed Oudin of the USA in an earlier round beat her Serb opponent Jovanovski to set up a Semi final match against Slovakian Tabakova.

The 5 foot 7 inch left hander was actually born in Australia but now only lives a 5 minute walk away from Wimbledon and she is competing against girls of up to 18 years of age.

Hopefully a good crowd will cheer her on and we could possibly be seeing the birth of a Lady player to challenge in the future for majors along with Andy Murray.
