Manchester City start UEFA campaign with win - EB 0 Man City 2

Manchester City started their UEFA Cup campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win in the Faroes Islands against part timers EB Streymur.

City took control early in the game when with a fine goal from Martin Petrov their Bulgarian international, this was followed by a goal of equal quality from the veteran Didi Hamann who smashed in a volley to give City an early 2-0 lead.

In the second half EB tried to come back into the game and were keen to exploit City`s lack of match fitness, but though they battled bravely they never really bothered Joe Hart in the Manchester goal.

Mark Hughes would have gone away from this match satisfied with the effort shown by his team in his first competitive game in charge, and he would also be pleased with the early form of Petrov and the fact that long term injury absentees Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha both came through in one piece.
