Makelele headed back to France.
As expected defensive midfielder Claude Makelele has left Chelsea on a free to go to French Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain.
It had become evident that Makelele had become surplus to requirements in the Chelsea midfield with the new influx of players appearing at Stamford Bridge, and the player who retired from international football after the European Championships in June has taken the chance to return to his home land and try to revive the fortunes of the Parisian club who have under performed in recent seasons.
The 35 year old is unlikely to be the last big name to leave Chelsea before the new season kicks off in Augustas Scolari looks to put his mark on the side.
