Laura Robson wins Girls title - Wimbledon
Earlier in the week i mention a young British girl who was doing well in the girls singles, at that time i like so many knew nothing about the 14 year old who lives just down the road from the famous venue.
After yesterday afternoons 3 set victory of number 3 seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn it seems we are destined to hear a lot more about her.
Laura Robson gave a performance on number 1 court yesterday which was way beyond her 14 years and if she progresses as well as the experts seem to think she is destined to be a major player in years to come.
Full credit to her 16 year old opponent who acquitted herself wonderfully and played her part in a terrific game but the guts and determination Laura showed when things were going against her in the second set would put a lot of the senior players to shame.
She dug in kept believing in herself and finally triumphed 6-3 3-6 6-1 to become the first British winner of this title since 1984 when Annabel Croft won.
The special thing about Laura is that she seems to be a well balanced educated young girl who is extremely focused and her post match interviews would of won her even more fans.
Full credit must go to her mother and the coach team for the work put in on her and hopefully the public expectation will not crush this gem of a find, from what i have seen so far i doubt it!
