Kumble and India make test history. - Cricket
India`s captain Anil Kumble made a little bit of test history during the second day of the first test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo when he asked for a television review of an lbw decision from the third umpire after Umpire had given Sri Lankan batsman Malinda Warnapura not out off the bowling of Harbijan Singh.
However on this occasion the Umpire`s decision was upheld and India lost one of their 3 challenges teams are allowed in each innings similar to the system that is used in Tennis. Also similar to the Tennis initiative if a team are successful with their challenge they keep all their challenges intact.
It will be interesting to see how this new innovation catches on, as unlike most sports a referral to a third umpire or referee is not going to appreciably slow down the game.
