Harrington eases to Open victory.
Defending champion Padraig Harrington overcame an injury to be the first European to defend his Open title since 1906.
He finished 4 shots ahead of Ian Poulter, as his steady percentage golf over 4 days paid dividends.
For 3 rounds it looked like Greg Norman was going to hold back the hands of time and win another major, but a final round of 77 saw him slip down to joint third position with Henrik Stenson of Sweden.
Special mention must go to English amateur Chris Woods who showed some of his more illustrious competitors who to play the difficult course and conditions Royal Birkdale presented over the four days by finishing a highly creditable joint 5th with veteran American Jim Furyk.
The great unanswered question has to be how would Tiger Woods have dealt with the elements and course, and though it is going to me one question left unanswered my personal feeling is the Tiger would have roared!
