Elgin v. Cowdenbeath Scot Challenge Cup 1st Rnd - Tip of the Day.

The Scottish season kicks of today with the 1st round of the Scottish Challenge Cup 1st round games today. The competition is open to all teams in the lower 3 leagues of the Scottish leagues and was won last season by St Johnstone who beat Dunfermline 3-2 i the Final.

The game i am interested in is the tie between Elgin and Cowdenbeath. Elgin finished 6h in the 3rd division last term but were far from convincing at their home ground winning 9 drawing 2 and losing 7 league games there whilst scoring 35 and conceding 33.

Today they take on a Cowdenbeath side that were relegated via the end of season play offs from Division 2 last season losing to Arbroath after extra time 3-2 on aggregate. They were not prolific on the road during last seasons campaign winning 5 drawing 3 and losing 10 whilst scoring 24 and conceding 40.

However at odds of 5/4 about a Cowdenbeath win i feel that this provides enough value to go for that result given that they are fancied by a few to make a quick return to the 2nd division.

As a saver i will go to Betfair and play the over 2.5 goal market as one thing from last season stands out and that is neither side is rock solid in defence.

So to start the new season of hopefully with a winner i am going with Cowdenbeath at 5/4 best price with Blue Square and Coral and also+2.5 goals with Betfair at approximately 13/15 at time of writing.

Good luck with whatever you go for and i hope that the 2008/09 season will be our most successful yet, it certainly wont be for the lack of trying!
