Murray impressive againstHaas - Wimbledon Day 6
Andy Murray stamped his credentials as a future Wimbledon Champion by defeating Tommy Haas of Germany in 4 sets yesterday.
Haas who at one time was World number 2 only briefly threatened to give Murray a game when he won the second set but he had no answers for the young Scots all round superior game.
Murray's next opponent is the French number 8 seed Richard Gasquet who beat fellow countryman Gilles Simon also in 4 sets. The Frenchman is a dangerous opponent, but given the way Murray has played in the first week of the tournament he should hold no fears.
In the Ladies singles Venus Williams showed that she is coming into form with a straightforward win against Martinez Sanchez of Spain and the possibility of a Williams sister Final took a step nearer.
Jelena Jankovic overcame injury and the loss of the first set to beat the talented Wozniaki of Denmark but doubts over her fitness means that she may have a problem being ready in time to face her next opponent Thanasugan of Thailand.
In one of the best matches certainly of the Women's event the number 9 seed Danara Safin, sister of Marat Safin lost in 3 sets 7-5, 6-7, 8-6 to Peer of Israel. Both girls played superb tennis and it seemed at the end that the Israelis superior fitness cost Safina the match as she was clearly exhausted at the end of the game.
