Britains Andy Murray overcame the challenge of veteran Fabrice Santoro yesterday to win in straight sets and book his place in round 2.

Murrays next opponent will be Xavier Malisse of Belguim who is himself no slouch on grass.

The major suprise yesterday in the Mens singles was the exit of Davydenko the number 4 seed in straight sets to B.Becker of Germany (thats Benjamin not Boris!), the only other seed to fall was Ivan Ljubicic the number 26 seed who went out in a 5 set duel with Jurgen Melzer of Austria.

British men had another success yesterday when qualifier Chris Eaton beat Pasanski of Croatia and he now goes on the met Dmitri Tursanov the number 25 seed in round 2.

The ladies singles was as prediactable as ever with only the number 23 seed Srebotnik going out in 3 sets to Georges of Germany in a match that saw the final set end 16-14 in favour of the German.

Britains Naomi Cavaday gave Venus Williams the defending Ladies Champion a fright in the first set of their match losing it on a tie break before the Americans power came to the fore and she won the second set 6-1.

Venus will now play Ann Keothovong in round two after the British number one recored a 3 set win over King of the USA.
