Adebayor for the exit door? - Transfer Talk Today.
Who? - Emmanuel Adebayor - Speculation Where is he? - Arsenal Who is he linked with? - Barcelona
Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has hinted that he could leave the club in the summer. The player has been linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the close-season, and it is thought the deal has already been done. However, it cannot be announced until Arsenal have lined up a replacement. Adebayor is quoted in the Daily Star as saying: "I do not want to speak about this at the moment because of Arsenal. But it is possible there will be something to say in a few days time."
Who? - A new striker - Speculation Where is he? - Unknown Who is he linked with? - Bolton Wanderers
Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside has revealed that the Trotters are close to completing the club record signing of a new striker. The current record fee paid by Wanderers was 8million for Nicolas Anelka in 2006, but Gartside is ready to sanction an even bigger deal in a bid to avoid another relegation scrap. He told the Bolton News: "We intend on strengthening the team this summer with some serious purchases. We've already put one to bed last week and we intend on putting the other, a striker, to bed within a week to ten days, which would be a club record transfer fee." St Etienne's France striker Bafetimbi Gomis and Sweden forward Johan Elmander of Toulouse have both been linked with Bolton in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Gartside has rejected talk of goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi leaving the club this summer by buying out the last year of his current contract. He added: "In order to buy out the remaining year of his contract he would have had to have served the club prior notice of his intentions within 14 days of the last match of the season. There has been no notice served in that time-frame and no indication that Ali wants a move."
Who? - Orlando Engelaar - Speculation Where is he? - FC Twente Who is he linked with? - Everton
Everton are reported to still be in the hunt for Netherlands midfielder Orlando Engelaar, despite the player having agreed terms on a move to German club Schalke. The 28-year-old is set to leave FC Twente at the end of the European Championships, with Germany still his most likely destination. Engelaar's agent, Eduard Burleson, told Sky Sports: "We have spoken with Schalke and terms have been agreed, but the two clubs have not agreed yet, so that is where we stand on that. I know Everton are interested and that Newcastle could soon make a move. He chose to speak to Schalke, firstly because there was not any interest from England at the time and also because of the coach Fred Rutten, who was so good for him at Twente. But if does not work, it is now clear could be English options. Orlando has taken his form from Twente straight into the national side and continued at the same level. I think for this reason a number of clubs have suddenly realised what many of us already knew, that he is a very good player."
