Penalty Shoot Outs - The Case for Replays.
After seeing last night`s Champions League Final be settled on penalties, i found myself asking is this the best way to decide such an important game?
My answer was no! Both sides played their part in a great game, but had Ronaldo`s miss cost United the cup would the man whose 42 goals did more then anyone to give united such a successful season deserve such a fate? (Though i hope now he stops the stupid stutter approach and just blast the thing!), Again the answer had to be no.
Did John Terry, the best captain this country has produced since Tony Adams deserve to be remembered for being unconsolable after the game due to his slip, again the answer has to be no.
The powers that be say there are to many games as it is but what rest does the modern pro really get? The majority of those that played tonight will be involved in Euro 2008 next month, the rest will link up with national teams for meaningless friendlies.
Games such as the World Cup Final, European Championships and Champions League deserve to have a clear cut winner, and ask the Chelsea players which they would prefer the penalty lottery or the chance of one more crack at United!!
Many say rightly so that shoot outs are dramatic but in my opinion no one player should be remembered as the one that cost his team the match, after all football is a TEAM game.
