Champions League Final - Key clashes where the game could be won.
The stars of Manchester United and Chelsea know each other very well after a long and hard title battle, so we have a look at the individual battles that could decide who comes home from Moscow with the Champions League trophy...
FRANK LAMPARD VS PAUL SCHOLES
It has been an emotional time for Frank Lampard recently, with the death of his mother and the dramatic extra-time penalty he scored against Liverpool to help book Chelsea's place in this Final. If he needed any extra motivation for winning the Champions League, what he has been through will certainly provide it. Scholes also scored to send United to the Final, and after missing out eight years ago through suspension, he'll be extra fired-up to win it. His form has been mixed at times this season, but he seems to have stepped up a gear towards the end of the campaign.
PETR CECH VS EDWIN VAN DER SAR
Both Cech and van der Sar have been injured in the line of duty again this season, with the Dutch keeper's advanced years taking their toll. He's in better form than he was a year ago, though his kicking has been suspect in the last few weeks, putting United under unnecessary pressure too many times for Fergie's liking against Wigan. Cech hasn't been quite so consistent this season as in previous campaigns, but is still one of the best keepers in the world and will be a formidable final barrier for United to breach.
JOHN TERRY VS WAYNE ROONEY
Crucial players for their clubs and country, Terry and Rooney have both had their seasons disrupted by injuries again, but will be fit to play in Moscow. For Terry it is typically last-minute, after suffering a dislocated elbow against Bolton on the last day of the season, but he was never likely to be kept out by anything that wouldn't prevent him actually being able to walk. Rooney has been kept in the shadows by Ronaldo this season, but his role for United is just as important and Terry will need to keep him quiet.
DIDIER DROGBA VS NEMANJA VIDIC
Nemanja Vidic has stirred things up in the build-up to the Final by copying Rafa Benitez's mind games with Drogba over his diving. Presumably because it worked so well for Liverpool. This hasn't been a great season for the Ivorian striker, with the departure of his mentor Jose Mourinho and the African Cup Of Nations in January disrupting his form, but as he showed in the semi-final second leg, he's still very dangerous. Vidic will testify to that, as he got kneed in the face by him when they last met a few weeks ago...
RICARDO CARVALHO VS CRISTIANO RONALDO
Two supremely talented Portuguese internationals, Carvalho and Ronaldo will go head to head in Moscow and the task for the Chelsea defender is simple. He and his fellow defenders must stop Ronaldo if they are going to win the Champions League, but as pretty much every team this season have found out, it is not easy to keep him quiet for a whole game. After such an incredible run of goals, who would bet against him scoring the winner in the Champions League Final?
