England v MacedoniaUEFA European Championship Qualifier

Old Trafford, Manchester United FC
McClaren has named the England squad to play against Macedonia and Croatia in the Euro Qualifiers. A win in these 2 games will mean England have a perfect record from the 4 games.
Pretty much, if England win this international double header, we'll have qualified for the Euro finals.
The main squad news is Wayne Rooney returns from suspension. Other squad news is Newcastle's Scott Parker has earned a recall after a 2 year hiatus, to replace Owen Hargreaves who broke his left leg playing for Bayern Munich. Spurs centre back Ledley King is back from injury. David Beckham has not been recalled.

UEFA European Championship Qualifier

Gradski, Skopje
England squeezed past Macedonia with a fully deserved 1-0 away win, courtesy of Peter Crouch and some quality late defensive work by Ashley Cole.
The first half was dour. England were a bit disjointed. Macedonia were solid enough, but never pushed forward much.
Straight after the half time break, Frank Lampard intercepted a Macedonian clearance, picked up the loose ball, hooked the ball into the centre for the waiting Johnny on the spot Peter Crouch, who volleyed home acrobatically. That's like, 11 goals in 9 games for Crouch.
The last 15 minutes was your typical backs to the wall away from home jobby. 1-0 up, not wanting to give anything away, the home team bombing forward with nothing to lose. We held on well enough in the end. Probably gave away posession too much late on, normal stuff.
The main thing is the 3 lions picked up 3 precious away points in the Euro qualifiers. There will be more visits to the Eastern block in this group. Let's hope the result is the same.
That's only 6 points from 2 games, which can't be bad.

While on holiday, I took a walk down to the local bookmakers (william hills). England were 5-4 to overcome a 4-0 handicap against the minnows of Andorra. As I was on holiday, I did not lay into the price too heavily, just a little wager.
The score was 5-0, with the goals coming from Peter Crouch(2), Jermaine Defoe(2) and Stephen Gerrard. Hence, England covered the spread, I was happy enough, so was McClaren and even Ian Wright on the BBC thought we played reasonably well.
Pretty much, that was it for me. The game was not a spectacle, never was going to be, but England performed well enough I guess and I paid a visit to the payout till at the bookies on the way home from my break away.
Tommorow is Macedonia away. A slightly tougher match, I think England will scrape a 2-0 win.
