Bookie Bans Smoking

A Welsh bookmaker has banned punters from smoking in it's highstreet betting shop in Gorseinon, near Swansea.

Bookmaker Philip Taylor decided to ban smokers after a shop refit. He is hoping the smoking ban will encourage non-smokers to bet at his shop.

Taylor said :: "It's a bit of a gamble because a lot of our customers smoke and having a cigarette as you place a bet is part of the culture."

Gamblog Comment: Smoking and betting go hand in hand don't they? Unless of course, you place your wagers in an online bookie.

Claudio Ranieri has been mentioned as a possible managerial candidate. Ranieri, is currently priced at 3/1 with Ladbrokes to work for Bates for another stint. Ranieri has been out of work for 12 months, plus the Italian has reportedly said he would like the Leeds job.

Market favourite for the Leeds job though, is currently John Carver at 7/4 in the betting. Carver is a well respected coach, is currently the caretaker manager at Leeds and has expressed a wish to take over the managerial reigns at Leeds full-time.

Gary McAllister used to play and captain Leeds, McAllister is priced up as a 6/1 chance. Skinny odds if you ask me. Dennis wise is trading at 8/1, but he has announced he will be staying in charge of Swindon.

Curbishley will be touted for every decent manager's position that becomes available. At some stage he will take a job. At 6/1 3rd favourite, the bookies are taking no chances.

William Hill - No USA Casino Or Poker Punters Welcome

Gamblog Comment :: The sooner the US regulate online gambling, the better. Prohibition of online gaming will not work. In the void that is the lack of regulation for online gambling from the US, criminals flourish. Exactly what the US anti-gambling brigade are trying to avoid. Online gaming regulation is welcome, prohibition is not an option after 10-15 years of online gambling.

French Gambling Monopoly In Trouble

The Future is Uncertain For The French Gambling Monopoly writes Niall O'Connor, the editor of the Betting Market.com

Niall investigates whether the French gambling monopolists have effectively put their own heads onto the chopping block, in light of the commercial activities of the PMU and Francaise des Jeux.

It's a long read. Don't go there if you have trouble reading a lot of text, or are a skimmer.

Tote Sale Causing Ructions

The Adam Smith Institute writes

Gamblog Comment :: It is nothing new to me to see the Labour Party selling off things that belong to the public, regardless of the public's opinion.

Right, so now someone is going to say you voted them in. Well they nicked the - privatisation of everything idea - from the Conservative Party - it helped get the Conservatives voted out of power. Now both parties are at it, the public does'nt count, unless the likes of The Adams Instutute kick up a fuss and causing ructions.

Leyser V Gold $12M WSOP Poker Tiff

Poker News - The Facts in Leyser vs. Gold WSOP $6M Lawsuit is a very good reason to not go for verbal agreements. They are not worth the paper they are written on.

Especially when $12 million WSOP prizes are at stake.

The world of gambling just got madder. Poker is big news, sometimes not for the right reasons. Jamie Gold is not helping. Bite the hand that feeds you, at your own peril I say.

I don't like welchers very much. Gamblers generally don't. Lawyers are easy about it.

Poker Player Mike Matusow Needs A Loan

Mike Matusow Goes Broke Online Then Begs For Money is the unusual headline.

Simply put, well known poker player Mike Matusow lost his money, then decided to ask the poker player who won it off of him, to loan him some back.

I think the aim of the loan, would have been for Matusow to then try to win back his lost bankroll money, with his own money, that he loaned back from the poker player that won it from him. It was not bus fare money. Matusow did not know the opponent by the way.

I think online poker has gone mad. I don't know much about poker. Is this the norm?

Roulette Wheel Bias Analysers Will Be Big Business

Gamblog Comment ::
It is interesting to see the Spanish rule the casino must pay the players, even though they won money using the roulette wheel bias analyser. Very interesting indeed. There will be a few online casinos going down in flames with thier silly welching over alleged bonus abuse disputes.

I guess the sooner regulation comes, the better it will be for all players. Not that I trust the government much. I trust some of the shady characters that hide online even less.

Record Golf Bet Wagered

An Irish golf punter has gambled £80,000 at 11/8 with William Hills on the Americans to beat Europe in the Ryder Cup golf tournament. This is the largest golf wager/bet on record.

The "record golf bet" will return £190,000 if the USA win, a profit of £110,000. Readabet.com reports William Hills have shortened the USA win odds to 11/10, moved Europe out to 10/11 favourites, with the draw at 9/1.

"For the first time the Ryder Cup could produce a bigger betting turnover than the Open Championship, we are anticipating that up to £25million will be gambled on what has become an absolutely huge event in the betting calendar" said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Popup Adverts Do Annoy

Today I got a popup advert thrown at me that crashed my computer.

Popup adverts on websites do annoy me. It's not just gambling related websites that utilise popup advertising methods either, so I am talking generally.

As the monkey here, I press a button. I am usually looking for a banana. Sometimes I get a banana, sometimes I get a banana plus an unwanted request to press another button.

I don't get it. I don't want it. If I wanted it, I would ask for it, that is what links are for.

This just so happens to be my computer. Anyone would have thought it belonged to the website I was visiting. The website is the owners property. This PC is mine. Anyone messing with my PC is due a thick ear from grandma.

# I advocate blacklisting of all websites that utilise popup advertising.

Apparently "the pretty boy Ospreys" are a good bet to cover the handicap at -6 at Sporting Odds - we shall see.

Some Banks Don't Want Online Gambling Banned

The US anti online gambling brigade seem to want to ban online gambling by making the banks do the work for them, by blocking money transfers between the punter and the casino.

The Independent Community Bankers of America - ICBA insists the automatic financial systems were not created to do such a task. Therefore any online gambling ban will be burdensome for the banks to enforce, and will take a whole revamp of a system that works quite well as it is thankyou very much.

Robber Throws A Bomb In Betting Shop

A "stocky looking fat man" of mediterranean decent, threw a home made bomb behind the betting till after being refused cash by the bookie staff. The man then pulled a knife and a remote control, before he made his exit empty-handed in the Cricklewood area of North West London. A member of staff was slightly hurt as the man exited the shop.

Police said: "The suspect is described as of Mediterranean appearance, aged between 32 and 40, 5'6 tall and clean shaven. He is described as stocky and overweight. He has black hair and was wearing a long dark blue polo top and black sunglasses. He speaks English with a foreign accent."

The home made explosive device was made safe after the area was cordoned off.

Gamble On Fantasy Football Weekly

Entry
To enter, it's about a £1.25 a go. Buying credits is done by credit card, whereby you buy credits up front for a fiver or so, more if you want, which slightly lessens the price per credit.

Prizes
Various prizes up to £500 a week are available, dependant on how many entries there are (a pool system).

Conclusion
For minimal input, if you know your UK football, you may prefer to gamble on your fantasy football selections weekly, to win up to £500 or maybe some fantasy football betting t-shirts and merchandise.

Looks like an interesting fantasy football derivative to me. I am not aware where players can bet weekly on fantasy football anywhere else.
