Fighting For Advantage Gamblers

Advantage gamblers are disliked by onland and online casinos. Online, advantage gamblers are accused of bonus abuse and have their winnings confiscated. Onland, card counters are intimidated and bundled into back-rooms by casino security staff and so on.

For my money, advantage gamblers play the casino hard, but fairly in an attempt win some chips/money. This is gambling.

It is the bookmakers or casinos prerogative to bar "unwanted punters", but not until the house has payed the clever gambler their winnings.

Bob Nersesian, an attorney in America, has won many cases for the advantage gambler against the casinos on the Vegas strip and beyond. I like Bob..

Tiniest Lottery Jackpot Prize Ever

update - 22 sept, 2006.
The National Lottery lawyers have nothing better to do, than insist a blogger remove a funny graphic, hence the above link will not show the smallest ever lottery prize anyome.

Well I thought it was interesting and quite funny, even if the suits at the National Lottery did not.

N.Korea Missile Launch Market Debacle

The TradeSports North Korean Missile Prediction Market Debacle is an odd one. The terms of the prediction market contract have been met, but the end decision is a dumb one. Tradesports should pay both ends of the market from their own funds as pennance, then chalk it up as experience.

Gamblog Comment :: Now how stupid is that? I will endeavour to learn all I can about Prediction Markets, but if this market result is anything to go by, it might not be a good idea. I'd get more sense of a taking on a fair wager playing virtual coin toss with Senator Kyl, rather than dealing with Tradesports.com silly prediction market contract stipulations, that defeat the object of gambling and winning fair and square.

If this is the best Tradesports can do, the Americans might aswell ban online gambling and be done with it.

eCOGRA - Online Gaming's Big Present?

eCOGRA - A Gift To The Industry is a must read. (watch out for the popup advertisng)

It is nice to know someone thinks Cassava - 888.com and Microgaming funding their own watchdog will inevitably result in the online gaming industry ridding itself of it's "stigma" and will be therefore accepted into "all realms of society".

Ecogra - A Brucie Bonus For All Online Casino Punters?
I look the gift horse in the mouth that is Ecogra and see no action regarding advantage players being accused of bonus abuse, merely for following the precise casino terms and conditions.

Assured Game Fairness?
No action regarding publicising the TGTR payout verification system, therefore players have to simply trust PWC SA that the games are fair. This while the independant 3rd party Ecogra "assures" the public the game is fair. Think about it.

Ethics For All?
No action on the malware/scumware/spyware/adware ethics issue, unless it involves another unsealed software supplier (gambling federation). This while not having the staff nor time to even comment in public about the issue of varied adware based marketing practises, utilised by their own sealed casinos and poker rooms.

Spam?
Don't mention spam - it is not the casinos fault, it's just that their buddies are so naughty, - not Ecogra's remit apparently (unless dealt with privately).

Comment.
A present to the industry? - Ecogra? - righteo. Not until they do something noteworthy for the player, that other player advocates have not been already doing since year dot.

Betonsports Running 2 Watchdogs?

Betting Market - Niall O'Connor is on the case. Rumours have been abound that Betonsports were running the self proclaimed independant sportsbook watchdogs OSGA (offshore gaming association) and the ISBC (international sportsbook council)

Read Niall's bogus watchdog investigation report.
Betonsports - A bad case of double standards?

Gamblog Comment :: Nothing new here for me personally. But the lesser spotted online gambler will find it interesting to see how a sportsbook listed on the UK stock market behave. Not to mention allegations levelled against Betonports regarding ties to the mob

Alhaajes Beaten At 1/7 Odds On

Why Alhaajes jockey Martin Dwyer figured riding a 1/7 odds on favourite at Pontefract 6 wide around the whole course is beyond me.

No, I never backed the highly tried horse, who clearly should not have been a 1/7 shot. That said, jockey Dwyer never helped his charge very much atall.

The Uncertain Corridor That Is Cricket

There is a Cricket Blog called "The Corridor", that once was called "The Corridor of Uncertainty", but the unofficial England cricket team fanzine also called The Corridor Of Uncertainty claimed copyright. Now the Corridor of uncertainty blog has been officially renamed - The Corridor - "a cricket blog"

Andy Clark writes the England fanzine. An England cricket fan that writes various cricketing articles etc.

Will Luke writes the blog, now called the Corridor. Will works for Cricinfo in Latimer Road (bramley) I think.

Confused? Well Geoff Boycott should claim the copyright on "The Corridor Of Uncertainty" and let both cricket authors use the phrase. Better still, Andy Clark should link up Will's blog, Will should link up Andy's fanzine, thereby increasing the cricket readers experience, which is what both ventures are there for right?

editors note :: any emails saying "it's just not cricket old boy", will not be raising a laugh.

Mansion Casino Dealing Recycled Cards?

The Casinomeister Has Removed Mansion Casino From The Accredited List for allegedly re-dealing (recycling) discarded cards on their multi-hand-video-poker.

This is cheating if true, whether by accident or design. Cheating - ie paying out less than the advertised percentage to the house.

I have seen no evidence of "recycling" discarded cards as yet, but the accusation is there and Mansion have been slow to respond to the claim.

Gamblog comment - Proceed with caution. Mansion are a casino that approached me for advertising. I said no, because the casino software was unknown to me (proprietary - built in house) and the casino had only been in operation a short while. I would advise players to not play at new casinos with unknown software. That is where bonus hunters do the casinos a favour - ie test the games and how the casino deals with players. The billionaire owned Mansion Casino, have failed to even get the bonus terms into a legible format, now we have accusations of dodgy cards being dealt.

Greedy Gambling Monopolies

World Cup 2006 sees some European nations gambling monopolies continue to rip of the punter says Niall O'Conner from The Betting Market

Lack of competition, or a monopoly situation will almost certainly lead to bookmakers taking liberties with the percentage to the house. I have read reports that gamblers playing in the greedy state-run Swedish onland casinos, get the value odds to play with around the 70% mark on video-poker. Yes, I said video-poker, not slot machines. This was word of mouth, I have not been to Sweden.

Niall O'Conner recorded the overround for the World Cup betting odds offered by Swedish and German gambling monopolies. With greedy 24% margins weighted to the house and no competition allowed to take a view and even out the overround, Niall has proven to me the Swedish punters are being taken for mugs, by law.

UK Temperatures Make Bookies Sweat

The UK is still in the grip of a heatwave. Last wednesday was the hottest day ever in any July apparently. The weather forecast is very similar for this week here in Southern England. The hottest day forecasted for this week is wednesday, 26th of July.

No More Streaker Betting

Bookmakers have stopped pricing up markets and taking bets on whether various sporting events will be streaked or not by the likes of serial streaker Mark Roberts.

Why No More Steaker Betting?
Because the streakers and their friends have apparently been placing bets with the bookies offering odds that a streak will indeed take place. Naughty gamblers!

Gamblog Comment - I guess odds on offer from various bookmakers that a nutter will strip off and streak any given sporting event, has in fact spawned more nude streakers. I have no evidence of such whatsoever, but I would'nt be the slightest bit surprised, especially where money and betting is involved.

2:30 E.b.f. Median Auction Maiden Stakes
Piccolena Boy gets the vote over Loves Bidding and Astroangel in the opener at the seaside track. Piccolena Boy is going the right way judged on the latest of his three runs at Bath to date, as he was the only one to trouble the impressive winner Abunai. He looks just the sort to follow when tackling nursery company, but in the meantime can open his account here with conditions to suit. Loves Bidding has had more opportunities, and we should not get carried away by the fact that he ran in the Norfolk Stakes as he finished last of 11. Astroangel shaped as though she would be suited by a step up in trip when fourth over six furlongs on the Kempton Polytrack 12 days ago, so it is odd to see her dropped back to the minimum. Cookies Quiff was third in a Bath seller on his debut and is another destined to go the nursery route in time, and all in all it is Piccolena Boy that makes the most appeal on this occasion.

3:00 Wbx.com World Bet Exchange Nursery Handicap
Hart Of Gold is the pick over the likes of Little Miss Wizzy, Dubai Magic and Suhayl Star. Having been a beaten favourite twice in succession earlier in the season, Hart Of Gold showed vast improvement to open his account at Wolverhampton in June, thanks to a gelding operation and step up in trip. He has continued to give a good account since, and was not beaten far by Ingleby Princess on Turf at Musselburgh the time before last. He looks just the sort to follow in this sphere, and with his apprentice rider able to claim 5lb, the Mark Wallace inmate is worth supporting. Little Miss Wizzy gets in on bottom weight and begins nursery life on a modest mark, but might prefer easier going, while Dubai Magic was totally outclassed in the TNT July Stakes at Newmarket and will be more at home in this grade. He made most when scoring at Salisbury the time before last and can give the selection most to do. Suhayl Star has yet to find his right trip, but is another that should eventually pay to follow at this level. For the winner we return to Hart Of Gold.

3:35 Letheby & Christopher Selling Stakes
Sunstroke is selected to get the better of Elizabeth Garrett and Diminuto in a weak looking event. Sunstroke will no doubt prove a popular choice with the holiday crowd here, and the filly has has the form to oblige based on her win in similar company at Brighton last week. She has drawn the one box and has Tom Queally in the plate again, so the scene is set for a follow-up despite the drop in trip. Elizabeth Garrett has already been beaten at this level and it is hard to see where the improvement is going to come from, while Diminuto has not repeated her fair effort in a Southwell maiden back in April and is not one to trust, even at this lowly level. The market should be noted as regards the others, but we are happy to stick with Sunstroke.

4:05 Wbx.com World Bet Exchange Handicap
Rag Tag can progress again to score at the expense of Polish Emperor, Vindication and Silver Dane. Rag Tag caused a 25-1 shock when landing a Bath maiden last year, but has failed to trouble the judge since. However, Andrew Balding's gelding showed an imminent return to form when third at Haydock eight days ago, showing very good speed for quite a long way in the race won by Shes Minnie. He will relish the fast ground and has been found a most suitable opportunity to get back winning ways. Polish Emperor has topweight but is actually down to a decent mark now. Even so, his recent form is hardly inspiring, and he is passed over. Vindication did not find much when popped the question at Lingfield last time, and is another that is hard to fancy, while Silver Dane has been out of form of late. Mind you, he was successful here in March and has conditions in his favour. Manniko is a big, strapping sort that would have claims on his form earlier in the season, but Rag Tag can beat them all.

4:40 Weatherbys Bank Fillies' Handicap
Red Sail has in the main been consistent, and can pay to follow here ahead of String Serenade, Iamback and Lenwade. Red Sail was a respectable third in a fillies' handicap at Folkestone just over three weeks ago, and although she has only one win to her credit so far, on the Lingfield Polytrack in May, the five-year-old looks worth supporting here despite having her fair share of weight. The opposition does not appear daunting, with perhaps String Serenade the main danger. Vince Smith's charge was an easy winner at Brighton in June and has been there or thereabouts since. Iamback has been placed three times on the all-weather recently, but is only rated in the thirties, while Lenwade has not won since last September and needs to improve markedly to figure. A low grade affair should be well within the capabilities of Red Sail.

5:10 Mint Casino Great Yarmouth Handicap
Fluted Crystal has a bit of scope and is taken to land the finale at the expense of Picture Show, Tangarita and Dream Of Paradise to name but three. Fluted Crystal obviously appreciated the switch to grass when finishing third at a big price in a Leicester claimer last time, having previously shown little in two outings on the all-weather. Henry Candy's filly does not appear overburdened for her handicap bow, and is taken to open her account. Picture Show has only tried today's trip once before and failed to stay, so is perhaps best watched, while Tangarita has shown little in the way of pace, and might even need further, but is at least better off at the weights with Dream Of Paradise for the two-lengths that separated them at Beverley. This is not going to take much winning, and Fluted Crystal, whose dam is related to Broken Hearted, can enhance her paddock prospects at least by coming good at the fourth time of asking.

6:20 Atkins For London Fillies' Handicap
A typically robust maiden event to start proceedings and among the more obvious protagonists are Gelder, Dancing Storm and Diamond Di Triano and our verdict at a big price is for Diamond Di Triano. The selection had been campaigned around the gaff tracks in order to secure her handicap mark and while on the face of it, her performance at Newmarket was disappointing, that was a much stronger race and she was taking on members of the opposite sex. Gelder is a noted tailswhisher but she ran a solid enough race at Haydock. The third let the form down on Saturday night so a bit more could be needed this evening. Dancing Storm could be at the right end of the handicap and has only gone up 2lb for a recent win at Chepstow. Hailing from an unfashionable yard, she is likely to be longer odds than her form entitles. Wagtail has proved expensive to follow in recent months after catching the eye on debut at Lingfield. Dream Rose has had plenty of chances and may not be particularly suited by this track. Aristofilia has disappointed but should be watched in the market in case there are any positive vibes as the Paul Cole operation appear to be in better form than they were. Royal Citadel looks the type who could be better suited over the mile although Libor let the form of her Bath run since. In a trappy affair, Diamond Di Triano looks the percentage call and at the likely odds, we are happy to have her on our side.

6:50 Psp Association Maiden Stakes
The market should offer most clues but among our shortlist are Montjeu Man, Persian Warrior, Farringdon and Arabian Tiger and a tentative nod is given to the last named. There was a time when Peter Chapple-Hyam's maidens would start short prices but connections have clearly had to bide their time with the son of Singspiel. On breeding the trip should suit and there is every reason to believe that he will be forward enough in his work to give us a good run for our money. Montjeu Man proved very disappointing at Wolverhampton and was notably easy to back beforehand. The market should tell us whether that was down to an inability to handle the surface or something more fundamental. Persian Warrior is related to a number of classic winning milers. He has already had the unkindest cut of all. Farringdon cost 300 000gns at the sales and has the benefit of racecourse experience. He was particularly green on debut last term and is remarkably well bred. Florimund was easy to back on debut and Ryan Moore has elected to ride Save The Secret. Related to a number of Australian winners, the market is watched. A tricky race to evaluate without the evidence of the betting market and Arabian Tiger is chanced.

7:20 Marketform Handicap
Didn't We rates a confident selection ahead of Home Sweet Home and Fast Bowler. Terry Mills charge was tried in much better company than this without disgracing himself and he confirmed the trainer's favourable impression with a well-backed success at Folkestone. There appeared to be more to come and we are hopeful that with normal progression, this race is within his compass. Fast Bowler won on debut but has not been since that victory last year. The gelding had problems with the virus last year and connections have not been quick to rush him back. Home Sweet Home is a previous course winner but was disappointing on a follow up. This looks to be a more difficult assignment off additional weight. Bold Argument was a 50/1 scorer a fortnight ago and won't be that price again. The handicapper has raised him 3lb for that success and there could be more to come from this imposing sort. Matuza has ability but will need plenty of use made of him to gain a handy pitch. Didn't We has all the ticks in the right boxes and we shall seek not to oppose.

7:50 Sei E.b.f. Maiden Fillies' Stakes
Centreboard, Baarrij and Breezeway are the three who catch the eye and we will stick with Centreboard. Richard Hughes' mount was backed as if defeat were out of the question at Lingfield and although running green, there was enough there to suggest that compensation is around the corner. Baarij is related to a number of winners over a mile. Well drawn this evening, the market is closely inspected. Breezeway hails from a yard that have done well with their juveniles and was an expensive purchase from the sales. A daughter of Grand Lodge, there should be plenty of early pace on view. English Ballet is related to a number of sprinters but has a poor draw to overcome. Mason Ette hung left at Goodwood and can ill afford a repeat here. Career Girl is bred to get further while Dubai Shadow looks to have place claims. Plenty of winners to come out of the race and on this occasion, Centreboard looks difficult to oppose.

8:20 Southern Electric Customer Price Promise Selling Stakes
Ganymede, Monash Lad and Grand Cliquot look to be the players and we will side with Ganymede. Stephen Donahoe has been in good form of late and his valuable 5lb claim could be the difference on the recent Hamilton second. Monash Lad posted a 25/1 shock under this rider last time out and this race on paper looks no more difficult. Grand Cliquot invariably runs well at decent prices. Win backers have had to wait an awful long time for success but she is much better than her lowly rating suggests. Ambersong won this race two seasons ago but would need a substantial improvement at these terms. Yenaled is on a losing run but has a very interesting jockey booking. Agilete kept on encouragingly in an apprentice handicap at Yarmouth last time out but this perpetual maiden is dropped down in class and could give a good account. Arabian Moon is a previous course-and-distance winner while Chocolate Boy has had many chances. A modest affair in which Ganymede is recommended at minimum stakes.

8:50 Vc Casino.com Handicap
A difficult nightcap in which many have chances and it could be worth chancing Bon Viveur against Northside Lodge, Danzare and Eastborough. Bon Viveur is less exposed than most and while Richard Hannon's charge was disappointing last week, he had enough pace to win over a mile and might be capable of returning to form at this "half-way house". Northside Lodge is invariably popular and an argument could be made that he is still relatively well in versus his previous form. Danzare put up a pleasing effort from an unpromising pitch at Folkestone - there are few worries about her ability to handle the trip. Eastborough failed over further although the market should be watched as Brendan Powell has sent out a couple of winners during the last few days. Scottish River is impossible to predict but would have to be a factor if he consents to take an interest in the race. John Charles did have some useful maiden form on the all-weather and can be expected to be ridden prominently this evening. A tough race in which Bon Viveur is narrowly preferred to a number of disappointing types.

Horseracing Selections - Beverley, 24 July 2006

Beverley, 24 July 2006

6:30 Medieval Night Claiming Stakes
Granny Peel is hard to oppose in this company and can beat Fractured Foxy and Birdie Birdie. Kevin Ryan's filly landed three similar races on the trot, before running with credit in a class four handicap last time. She obviously loves her racing and can regain the winning thread. Fractured Foxy drops into claiming company for the first time having shown plenty of form in three modest maidens. This could be about her level and a big run is expected. Birdie Birdie is the only newcomer here and is from a top yard. If the daughter of Superior Premium is backed, take note. Denton Hawk and Ishebee are two others with solid enough form claims, but Granny Peel should be followed while she is still in this sort of form.

7:00 E.b.f. Novice Stakes
Once again Mark Johnston sets a bit of a puzzle by running two horses in the same race, however Silent Waves was most impressive on his debut and should follow up ahead of stable companion Petrosian, Coconut Queen looks booked for third. Silent Waves looked above average when taking a course and distance maiden back in June. He finished clear of the runner up Musca, who in turn was miles clear of the remainder, so both could turn out to be decent types. Petrosian is an interesting debutante being a nicely bred son of Sakhee. He does receive a fair bit of weight from the selection and so watch for any market move. Coconut Queen showed plenty of promise on her debut, finishing a close up fourth behind Big Timer over the six furlong trip here. She should come on for the outing and may take the runners up spot if Petrosian isn't fully wound up. Lady Best makes up the field but should be better over much further and so we return to Silent Waves as our choice to land the spoils.

7:30 Mkm Building Supplies Handicap
The three-year-old Advancement can take care of his elders here, the best of which could be Tough Love and Poppys Footprint. Richard Fahey's gelding gained a deserved maiden success at Southwell last time, staying on strongly to beat Bijli. There should be more to come and this extra furlong should suit. Poppys Footprint hasn't won for some time and has disappointed on her last two efforts on the all-weather. However she is now back down to a decent mark and it would be no surprise to see her go close this evening. Tough Love has managed a victory this season and looked on the way back last time when a close up third behind Fremen at York. He is getting no help from the handicapper but should make his presence felt. The pick of the rest could be Bond Diamond, but Advancement has more scope for improvement than the rest of these and he gets the verdict.

8:00 Natwest Agricultural Team Handicap
Princess Cocoa is the pick over Dimelight, Bolckow and English City. This is a tight little handicap, but Princess Cocoa has done enough of late to earn the vote. Richard Fahey's filly was fancied at Ripon last time, but after being slowly away, she used up most of her energy trying to get quickly back into contention, and had nothing left to offer as Scotland Yard romped home ahead of her and Hunting Haze. She looked the part when scoring at Chester earlier with English City behind, and is worth chancing under Paul Hanagan. Dimelight is very well bred, but the topweight looks like he needs a step up to 12 furlongs on the evidence so far. Bolckow flopped badly at Pontefract and is still a maiden, and for the winner we stay loyal to Princess Cocoa.

8:30 Family Day Here Next Tuesday Maiden Handicap
Virginia Rose gets a tentative vote over Travolta, Myrtle Bay and Wise Choice to name but a few. The only good thing to say about this contest is that one of them will lose its maiden tag, and a chance is taken that Virginia Rose will be the one. James Given's filly kept on well enough behind Baltic Princess at Hamilton last time, and will be suited by the step up in trip at least. Travolta showed his best form when second on Lingfield's Turf course the time before last and will act on the fast ground. Myrtle Bay was fancied when third behind Awaken at Hamilton and is worth a try over this longer trip, as is Wise Choice who has stamina in his make-up. Any support for the likes of Leo McGarry or Tiltili who both hail from shrewd yards should be noted, but in a very moderate contest it is Virginia Rose that is lumbered with the vote.

9:00 Sir Lupin Of Pipwithers Rides Again Handicap
Dark Charm is confidently recommended ahead of Royal Flynn and Augustine. The jockey and trainer combination of Paul Hanagan and Richard Fahey are always to be feared at lowly levels, and having narrowly failed to score at Hamilton, compensation awaits the front-runner. Royal Flynn is in receipt of weight, and cheekpieces are applied for the first time. The gelding has only found the winner's enclosure once from 21 attempts and could be unfortunate enough to find one too good again. Augustine visits the well often but with little return. Unfortunately his runs have not come without penalty from the handicapper and he may need to come down again before his turn looks likely. Suivez Moi is difficult to fancy on his reappearance while Terminator looks to have completely lost his way of late. This is an obvious chance for Dark Charm to strike gold and we will nominate accordingly.

Horseracing Selections - Ayr, 24 July 2006

Ayr, 24 July 2006

2:15 Ladies Night Saturday 12 August Median Auction Maiden Stakes
This doesn't look the strongest of maidens and we will plump for Carillon, Voodoo Moon and Only A Splash may provide most danger. Carillon is from the in form Mark Johnston yard and certainly looks the part on paper. She is by Desert Prince out of a Selkirk mare. No doubt she will be better over a mile in time but should have enough speed to make her presence felt in this company. Stable companion Voodoo Moon hasn't really stepped up on a promising Pontefract debut but does obviously have some ability. The ground may have been against her last time and we may see a better performance on this faster surface. The once raced Only A Splash is expected to show improvement and looks the pick of the others, but Carillon could be a decent debutante and she gets our vote.

2:45 Book Now For Totesport Gold Cup Handicap
Muara edges the verdict over Viewforth and Strawberry Patch, while Sharp Hat has confirmed that he is no back number yet and also has claims at this level. Sharp Hat had a number of these behind him when he won at Mussleburgh last month and has subsequently ran with credit on a couple of occasions. David Chapman's veteran still has a turn of foot and will be dangerous to rule out too quickly. Strawberry Patch has also got his act together well just now and is effective over the minimum trip. However, he has never won away from his beloved Mussleburgh and he needs everything to go his way. Viewforth returned to winning ways against a small field at Hamilton last week and is obviously in good heart. He carries just 4lb extra this afternoon and has to merit consideration in his current frame of mind. Any rain would be a plus where Viewforth is concerned. Nevertheless, the vote goes to Muara, who also in good form and, with the ground very much in his favour, this lightly raced son of Wolfhound can be expected to give us a good run for the money at a fair price today

3:20 Horseracingbreaks.com Handicap
If Just Lille takes his chance he will be hard to beat, but we will just side with Jellytot, with Noble Nova the pick of the others. Kevin Ryan's filly showed tremendous courage to get the better of Kasumi at Carlisle earlier this month, with the good yardstick Esoterica well beaten off in third. The handicapper hasn't been too harsh and she can make it three wins from four outings. Just Lille took a while to get into top gear at Haydock on Saturday night, but stayed on well to beat a modest field. There could be plenty more to come from Ann Duffield's filly and she rates a major threat. Noble Nova was far from disgraced, when attempting a fourth quick win off the reel in Scotland. She finished third behind Defi in that Hamilton event and although she has risen in the weights she still warrants plenty of respect. Wind Star has been knocking on the door recently and looks the pick of the rest, but Jellytot just does enough to win and may still be just ahead of the handicapper.

3:50 Weatherbys Bank Fillies' Handicap
Our Sheila has continued to defy the handicapper and can make it five wins in a row this afternoon, Aahgowangowan and Obe Bold may provide most danger. Bryan Smart's three-year-old may not be straightforward, but she's got an engine and she sprinted home to complete her four-timer at Carlisle recently. She only just does enough and might just be the type to stay a step ahead of the Handicapper. Aahgowangowan is another consistent performer and gained his second win of the season when beating two of today's rivals at Chester. She in foal at present and so we can expect to see some more of the same type of effort. Obe Bold landed a couple of decent enough races in the spring and following some poor recent efforts is now down to a handy mark. She could go well at a decent price. Top-weight Riquewihr may do best of the others, but Our Sheila is hard to ignore in this mood and she gets our vote.

4:25 Racinguk.tv Handicap
Some in form yards represented here and we will take a chance with David Barron's runner Cottingham, Regal Connection and Inch High look to be the best alternatives. The selection has been an absolute model of consistency this season and gained his fourth success when beating Fossgate at Newcastle last week. Once again ground and trip are in his favour and he looks the pick despite his massive weight . Regal Connection is still not quite firing but is now down to a very handy mark and has strong claims on the pick of last season's form. Inch High went close over course and distance last week and is from a stable that is banging in the winners. Best of the others could be Balwearie, but there could still be more to come from Cottingham and he gets our vote.

4:55 Jim Mckerrell Retiral Handicap
A very tricky contest here and a narrow vote is given to Moonlight Fantasy, Linton Dancer, Markestino and Wensleydale Star are all considered major threats. Nigel Tinkler's gelding showed much improved form to land a Ripon seller last time out. On the face of it that doesn't appear to be strong form, however he beat the 58 rated Carrietau quite easily and so could be very well treated here this afternoon. Markestino ran well to finish third to Farne Isle last week and still looks on a decent enough mark. Linton Dancer has been running better than her form figures suggest and although she could do with a slight drop in the weights she should still be involved in the finsih. Wensleydale Star is at the right end of the handicap and looked on the way back last time. Of the remainder River Logic can also be given an each-way squeak but Moonlight Fantasy could be on the upgrade and he is the sporting choice.

5:25 Dawn Homes Handicap
Legal Dram and Walnut Grove are the only two here with recent winning form and they could fight out the finish here, we will side with the last named, Second Reef may do best of the others. Walnut Grove disappointed when a well backed favourite last time out at Hamilton but had previously most impressive when winning at Beverley. The form of that contest has worked out really well and if that last effort was just a blip he could be the best option today. Legal Dram was making his turf debut when successful at Beverley last time. He was racing for only the sixth time and was having his first outing since January. He may be capable of slightly better. The pick of the others could be the consistent Second Reef, but Walnut Grove does appear to have the strongest form on show and he gets the verdict.

Online Gambling Firms Do Annoy

I Hate Online Gambling Sites states fellow blogger Captain Ed - touche.

Robbing gamblers is not the captains beef. Nor the spyware. Nor the stupid popup adverts. Nor the unfair games. Nor the pathetic PR stunts pulled by the yawn that is Golden Palace. I could go on, I could probably write a book.

♠ The captain is pissed off at casino affiliates spamming his blog via any means possible. The casinos & poker rooms play dumb all the while. "It's not us guv, it's those nasty affs sending us all these players. What can we do apart from pay them to bring us more punters?"

♠ The captain asks - "Why would anyone trust a gambling site that cheats in any aspect of its business? If they're scummy bastards in cheating website owners like myself out of advertising revenue, why would anyone expect them to be honest with payouts for winnings?"

Gamblog Comment - When it comes to annoying potential future customers, the online gambling firms who carry the attitude of "we just want the players, bollocks to the general public", take the prize. I mean, let's have it right, online gambling firms are a disgrace in general. It's not just gambler folk like me who know. It's concrete, it's proven, it's not a myth borne out of the old days of Vegas.

All things being equal, the Americans should go ahead and ban online gambling. The likes of blogger captain Ed and his readers would not shed a tear, and who can blame them?

Goal Line Football Odds

Will there be more goals or fewer goals than the Goal Line?

♠ Goal Line Betting
If the total number of goals is identical to the Goal Line then bet stakes are refunded. (e.g. If the Goal Line is 2.0 and the game finishes 1-1 all stakes are refunded.)

Should there be a split Goal Line (e.g. 2.0/2.5 or 2.5/3.0) then your bet is split between the two Lines.
(e.g. If the Goal Line is 2.5/3.0 then half your bet is on a Goal Line of 2.5 and the other half is on a Goal Line of 3.0. In this example, if you bet 'over' and the game finished 2-1 half of your bet would win and half of your bet would be refunded.)

Horseracing Selections - Ripon, 22 July 2006

Ripon, 22 July 2006

2:20 E.b.f. Dobsons Gaskets Maiden Fillies'
Abbey Road has been found a good opportunity to open her account. Durova and Sister Etienne are forwarded as the main dangers from the rest. Sister Etienne improved from her debut to finish a good third here earlier in the month. This daughter of Lend A Hand can make the rest aware of her presence. Durova missed that race to take her chance in a better race at Chester last week. She was far from disgraced in defeat and looks capable of exploiting any holes in the selection's game plan. However, Abbey Road edges preference on this occasion. Her debut run was given a solid boost at Lingfield on Thursday and, as she holds an entry in an Irish Group 1, she may well prove to be a step ahead of this lot; even though the daughter of Danehill does need to find more improvement though and needs to go a long way to start justifying her $210,000 purchase price.

2:50 Mary Kay Shaw Birthday Celebration Selling Stakes
Dotty's Daughter is selected ahead of Loch Clutha and Poinaird. The last named can be forgiven his latest effort as he lost his action after meeting trouble in running on a couple of occasions. David Barker's charge may prove to be a lot better than his finishing position would have you believe and any market confidence will be dangerous to ignore. Loch Clutha created the impression that she is ready for a step up in trip during her last start and she may well improve for this first try over six furlongs. Her yard does well in races of this nature and it would not be surprising to see her make the frame. However, Dotty's Daughter sets the standard from what they have shown so far and, as this lacks strength in depth, Anne Duffield's filly is fancied to be hard to beat here.

3:20 Bishopton Handicap
No comment available.

3:55 Ripon Bell-ringer Handicap
Nero's Return is better than recent form figures would have us believe and he is selected ahead of the revitalised Our Teddy and Top Seed, while Lucayan Dancer has a habit of popping up in races like this and is worth considering for each-way punters. The last named does have to register a career best performance and needs everything to fall into place for him. Top Seed, like many of his stablemates, has been kept on the go lately and has paid his way in win and place money. However, he also gets little respite from the handicapper and has it to prove off top weight. In handicapping terms, not many horses have plummeted as far in the rating as Our Teddy, who was running off a mark of 104 three years ago. Now on a rating of 80, the Paul Blockley-trained gelding has been in solid form of late and has to be respected in his current frame of mind. However, Nero's Return has also been given a chance by the assessor and, as he tales a drop in grade today, Mark Johnstone's charge looks to represent the best value in Ripon's feature race of the day.

4:30 Kevin Kai Lowery Memorial Maiden Handicap
A nightmare of a race and only a tentative vote of confidence is put behind Ekhorn, while Josarty and Mostanad are respected with their claims. And it would come as no surprise to also see Best Double make a bold bid to overcome the burden of top weight. The last named does look a touch high in the ratings for what he has actually achieved and, as a long standing maiden, there have to be reservations voiced about his resolution in a finish. Similar comments apply to Mostanad and he needs everything to fall into place for him. Josarty has fared better since he stepped into handicap company and may have more improvement to come. The undulations of this course should not be a problem for John Quinn's charge and he rates as fair value for at least a place. However, the finger has to pinpoint something more solid and Ekhorn, who has solid claims in the context of this race. Ekhorn has shown much improved form since being dropped back to sprinting and, having gone close in a better race than this at Hamilton last time; this could finally be the day for Julie Camacho's charge to deliver the goods.

5:05 Birchall Catering Supplies Median Auction Maiden Stakes
Giverny Spring is the leading player in a weak finale, with the lightly raced pair Chrisjen and Lady's Law others that are respected as likely improvers. Lady's Law made some late headway on her debut and ran encouragingly enough to suggest that a mile will not be a problem for her. She does need to post a better effort though and may be best watched for win only purposes in a field of this size. Chrisjen was another that took her time to get going on her introduction and will have benefited from the experience. This does look slightly tougher though and she needs to step things up a gear to get off the mark. Therefore, it may best to stick with experience on this occasion and give Giverny Spring another throw of the dice. Especially as her yard have been in much better form of late.

Horseracing Selections - Newmarket 22 July 2006

Newmarket, 22 July 2006

2:10 Lettergold Plastics Maiden Stakes
An interesting curtain raiser at racing headquarters, with Lawyer To The World forwarded as a sporting option to make a winning debut. Gentleman Pirate and College Scholar are also fancied to be on the premises, while any support for the Henry Cecil-trained Cavalry Guard would be noteworthy. The last named was an expensive purchase and, like many of the field, holds an entry in the Gimcrack at York next month. Cecil has been struggling for winners this term, though, and there is the suspicion this son of Officer will be all the better for a run. College Scholar is from a yard that has enjoyed a steady stream of winners and it will be interesting to see how the market speaks about him today. His breeding leans towards a slightly longer trip and again he may be one to take notes on this time around. Gentleman Pirate, having caught the eye on debut at Sandown, sets the standard in terms of experience. He was given a satisfactory introduction and looks capable of paying his way before too long. However, the strength of the Sandown form remains to be seen and he is not one to take too short a price about in a wide open contest like this. Therefore, it may be worth taking a chance with Lawyer To The World, who is a half-brother to smart sprinter Stormont. Along with a Gimcrack entry, this fellow is also a possible for the Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh; so has obviously been showing plenty at home. Steve Drowne has a 40% strike-rate with Neville Callaghan's juveniles and it will come as no surprise to see the statistics given another boost after this.

2:40 Vc Bet Aphrodite Stakes (fillies' Listed)
A solid looking renewal of this Listed contest can go to the unexposed Quenched, who is the preferred betting proposition over Pictava and Sindiranna, while Gower Song is another tough individual that appears to be going from the strength to strength. The last named does need to keep improving and David Elsworth's charge, who take a big step up in grade, faces her stiffest test to date. Sindiranna is open to improvement and is probably better than she consented to show in the Ribblesdale last time. However, she has a bit to find with the selection on the Ascot form and now has something to prove. Pictava had some useful form in Ireland before making a successful debut for Godolphin at Newcastle last month. The daughter of Sinndar comfortably accounted for Reem Two on that occasion and should make a bold bid to uphold the form. However, like Power Girl (also carries a Listed race penalty) she faces a stiff test on these terms and needs to be at the very top of her game. Especially if Quenched, whose yard have won this three times in the last ten years, has thrived since she was last seen out. John Gosden's filly was worried out of things at Royal Ascot and could only keep on at the one pace near the finish. However, this may be more her grade and Quenched, who was most impressive when she won at Lingfield, will be hard to peg back if she is allowed an easy lead today.

3:15 Chris Blackwell Memorial Handicap
Multidimensional has bags of scope for improvement and is selected ahead of Paraguay and Orpsie Boy, who make the most appeal out of the rest of the field. Orpsie Boy is unexposed at the trip and comes here on the back of a solid effort in a valuable handicap here earlier in the month. He should stay on breeding and a market move will be dangerous to ignore. Paraguay has done his connections proud lately and another bold attempt looks assured while the ground remains on the fast side. He is on a 6lb higher mark than for his course and distance win last month and now has to take on stiffer company. Watch the market carefully where he is concerned. Multidimensional holds the edge in terms of anticipated improvement though and this son of Danehill is very much one to keep on the right side as he continues to learn his trade.

3:50 Invesco Perpetual E.b.f. Fillies' Handicap
A chance is taken with Lipizza, who edges a narrow verdict over Folga, while Daniella is also worth monitoring in the betting market. Daniella won well at Goodwood last time and comes here on an upwards curve. The drop back in trip is not expected to be a problem and Rae Guest's charge has a reasonable each-way chance on these terms. Folga is a tough individual and stands her racing well. However, top weight does the mount of Frankie Dettori very few favours and she needs to be at the top of her game. Secret Night is also worth a mention, as this Dansili filly is a model of consistency. She has been found a little short in a finish on occasions though and has become something of a bookies darling during her rise up the ratings. Her supporters need to hope the drop to six furlongs helps her get home today. However, there may also be a bit more to come from Lipizza, who has dropped a couple of significant hints that her turn is not too far away recently. Neville Callaghan is obviously keen to keep the daughter of Spinning World on the boil and it will come as no surprise to see her visit Windsor on Monday evening if all goes to plan this afternoon.

4:25 Dodson And Horrell Maiden Stakes
The booking of Frankie Dettori virtually assures support for Grand Entrance but he ran encouragingly enough at Warwick on his reappearance to suggest he can play the leading role here. Mambonow and Pertemps Green are others to bear in mind, while Another Gladiator is also worth taking note on for future reference and is an interesting debutante for Kevin Ryan to be going to war with. The last named is a half-brother to El Rey Del Mambo and, having offered at fancy prices at the sales, he has obviously taken the eye on a number of occasions already. The betting market will tell us how well he is respected today. Pertemps Green was also an above average price when first purchased at the Tattersals Sales in October 2005. But the fact that he was resold at a 92,000 loss a year later underlines the precarious nature of racing. He showed inexperience on his debut and now has something to prove. Mambonow is a taking individual that has a race within him at some juncture. He will be very interesting in handicap company in due course. However, Grand Entrance gets the nod after showing he retains enthusiasm at Warwick a fortnight ago and is expected to be hard to beat if he posts a similar display here.

4:55 Join Racing Uk Club Handicap
Taxman gets the nod, while Mersey Sound and Maystock are fancied to provide stern challenges. Maystock is consistent and, having won off higher marks on the All Weather, has to be respected. He stays well and can do his bit to make sure there is no let up in the tempo near the finish. Mersey Sound has been a good servant to his yard and can be relied upon to pick up at least one race a season. However, he has already had his quota for the campaign and now he needs to have everything unfold to suit him. Therefore, we take our chances with Taxman, who is a good battler and, as he is holding his form really well at present, he is fancied to be hard to beat now that he has proved himself as a capable stayer.

5:30 Plantation Stud Handicap
A nightmare of a race to round off the card and Tony The Tap, who goes well here, is tentatively preferred to High Reach and Pic Up Sticks. It will also be noteworthy to see if any money arrives to support the three-year-old Woodnook, as he has an each-way chance on these terms and is no back number in the finale. Pic Up Sticks came good at Sandown earlier in the month and should be capable of going close this company. He races off just a 4lb higher mark this afternoon and a bold bid is expected. High Reach has not really shone this season and is better than he showed in the Wokingham at Ascot. Willie Muir's charge ran a more respectable race at York last time and, with the ground in his favour, he may be on the way back. High Reach holds an entry in the Stewards Cup and a penalty would do his chances of a run no harm. However, Tony The Tap has also dropped a few hints that his turn is not too far away and , with Tolley Dean easing his burden with his 7lb claim, this looks a fair opportunity for Bryn Palling's charge to gain an elusive first Newmarket success after a series of near misses here over the years.

Newbury, 22 July 2006

2:25 Stan James Hackwood Stakes (group 3)
The short list for this Group 3 sprint consists of Ashdown Express, Baltic King and Tawaassol, with our vote going to Baltic King. This is a cracking good opener and the case for Baltic King rests on him having conditions to suit today and that he comes here in great heart having won the Wokingham Stakes after finishing a very good fifth in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot. Ashdown Express, who won this race in 2002 and ran well in it in 2003 and 2005, comes right into things based on his July Cup second last time, but he rarely gets his head in front these days. Tawwaasol also gets good mention based on his fine run in a Sandown Group 3 race last time, looking for all the world as though six furlongs is his trip. These look to be the major players - in our view, anyway - but that is not to dismiss by any means the profiles of some classy opponents. That said, our selection, once again, is Baltic King.

3:00 Ladbrokes.com Heritage Handicap (straight)
Our shortlist for his good prize consists of Ace Of Hearts, Capable Guest and Seulement, with the vote going to Ace Of Hearts. A valuable Sandown mile handicap looks possibly to hold the key to this race. In it, Ace Of Hearts finished second to the progressive Hinterland, with the unlucky-in-running Capable Guest in fourth and Luca Cumani's Seulement tenth. Firstly, let us say that we feel that Seulement, who travelled well for a long way on that occasion, will be more at home on this flatter track. On top of that, Capable Guest only saw daylight late on and left the impression that he would have at least finished second with a clear passage. The fact remains, though, that Ace Of Hearts did beat the pair of them and he remains on a competitive mark. Of the others, Kelucia comes here on the back of a good Newmarket win and is respected, Calcutta is capable of running well from his current rating and might sneak a place, Audience is now five pounds below a winning rating from last August, but Namroud has more to do than when scoring at Ayr last time. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Ace Of Hearts.

3:30 Weatherbys Super Sprint
Our short list for this valuable sales race consists of Gilded, Elhamri, Nina Blini and Satulagi, with the vote going to Gilded. Richard Hannon has won this race six times, and three times in the last four years. He has a strong hand again and we particularly like the look of Gilded, the Queen Mary Stakes winner and Cherry Hinton third that has proven herself tough and reliable - and classy - this season. Lyric Fantasy and Risky also took the Queen Mary Stakes for Hannon before landing this contest. With the Windsor Castle winner and sixth, Elhamri and We'll Confer, the Norfolk Stakes third, Cav Okay (who finished lame when beaten last time), the Albany Stakes seventh, Riverside Dancer, the Queen Mary Stakes third, Nina Blini (who is five pounds better off for a length and a half with Gilded based on that form) the Albany Stakes third and Listed Newmarket third, Satulagi, who gets in here off a light weight, all in opposition, then it rates as a very good renewal of the race. Of the others Gold Spirit put in an improved effort to score at Chester last time, as did Ice Mountain when scoring at Beverley, and Resignation is a horse that we have a lot of time for, but, for today, we will stick with Richard Hannon and Gilded.

4:00 Trailfinders Conditions Stakes (straight)
Thousand Words gets the nomination in this interesting juvenile event, with his biggest danger reckoned to be Drumfire. Thousand Words created a very favourable impression when scoring on his debut here 37 days ago and, with the race having worked out, he can build on his reputation today. Having slaughtered the subsequent July Stakes second Armigerent on his Beverley debut, Drumfire is very much respected, while Monachello also looked promising when scoring on his debut. As One Does and Princeton have also displayed ability in winning races, while Peter Chapple Hyam's 50,000 guineas purchase, Striving Storm rates as an interesting newcomer. The vote, though, stays with Thousand Words.

4:35 David Wilson Homes Steventon Stakes (listed)
Kandidate gets our vote here ahead of Windsor Knot and Tam Lin. Kandidate looked to be at the height of his powers when winning at Sandown last time and he can make a bold bid to score today. Windsor Knot, who should come on for that run, has two-and-a-half lengths to find based on that form, and Mulaqat has even more to find. Khyber Kim looked good when beating a Listed winner on hs final start last season but, on bare ratings he needs another improved effort and that win came on easier going. Finally, Tam Lin followed up two wins with a good King Edward VII Stakes fifth behind Papal Bull and he rates as interesting. Overall, though, Kandidate looks the one to beat.

5:10 Sporting Index Handicap
Silver Blue might provide the answer here, with Blue Bajan and Coup d'Etat rated the main dangers. Much as previous efforts at 10 furlongs have not yielded much in the way of success, the selection is bred to be suited by it and, racing from a three-pounds lower mark than when last winning, he could go well today. Blue Bajan holds Humble Opinion on Windsor form and, based on that unlucky-in-running effort, can go well again today, as can Coup d'Etat, who was also unlucky in running last time and could even be rated as a winner without a penalty, so has ton be seriously considered. Of the others, She's My Outsider put in an improved effort when second at Windsor last time and, only lightly raced, is another to be granted plenty of respect. All in all, though, we will stick with Silver Blue.

Market Rasen, 22 July 2006

2:05 Totescoop6 Summer Handicap Hurdle
East Tycoon is taken to continue Tony McCoys winning run and get the better of Crathorne and Ela Re and collect this lucrative prize. Sue Smiths Ela Re landed a bit of a touch when scoring at Hexham last time and although raised twelve pounds for that facile success, he can play a leading role here in pursuit of this big purse. He may turn out to be well handicapped and could well have improved from last season. Crathorne is a versatile performer, scoring on the Flat at Musselburgh in May, and winning over hurdles at Southwell last month. He too may have a little in hand of the handicapper, held up at Southwell, he won nicely. After a winless run over fences, East Tycoon appreciated a return to the smaller obstacles when scoring at Stratford this week, and with the assistance of the champion jockey, who is in terrific form just now, East Tycoon can prove too strong for his rivals under a five pound penalty.

2:35 Cobelfret Juvenile Novices' Hurdle
Prince Bere, Ever Special and Carr Hall are the three for the shortlist here and Prince Bere is taken to come out on top and continue McCoys winning run. Ever Special has some respectable runs on the Flat to his credit although he is still a maiden, and ran well on his hurdling bow over the course and distance last time to be third without ever looking like winning. He will come on for the run though and looks an able recruit to the hurdling sphere. Carr Hall is making his debut here for Tim Easterby over hurdles but is another who has shown ability on the Flat, finishing a close up fourth behind Jellytot at Carlisle in a seven furlong handicap. He is sure to know his job and can run well at a nice price. Prince Bere is yet to win a race but has hurdling experience in France and can make it count. He comes from the David Pipe yard and the stable has had great success with French recruits over the years. Prince Bere can make a winning debut in this country.

3:10 Dfds Lys-line Handicap Hurdle
The Names Bond, Ostfanni and Treaty Flyer are the ones to consider here and The Names Bond can score. Having scored twice on the Flat at Musselburgh recently, Ostfanni comes here in good heart, and also has a recent Kelso success over hurdles to his credit. He weakened into fourth on his latest start though and may be a little high in the handicap. After Stratford and Aintree runs where he finished second on each occasion, Treaty Flyer made no mistake here last time but now faces a step up in trip and a ten pound rise in the ratings which could be prohibitive. After wins at Hexham and Newcastle during the winter, The Names Bond returned to winning ways at Worcester last time. Only five pounds higher here, The Names Bond can shoot down his opponents here.

3:45 Totesport.com Summer Plate Handicap Chase
Yes Sir, Tevere and Inch Pride are the three to look at most closely in this feature contest, and Yes Sir is taken to continue his winning run with Tony McCoy on board. Tevere scored impressively on his British bow at Southwell, and this French recruit has only been raised nine pounds for that comfortable win. He can go well here. Stable companion Inch Pride made no mistake at Stratford last time having disappointed at Hereford the time before. This is a step up from novice company however, and his overall form does not look strong enough. Yes Sir has rattled up a five timer and will be a popular choice with McCoy riding. He was not at all fluent when registering his most recent win, but his record is impressive, and he can continue his winning run in this highly competitive affair. Yes Sir gets the nod.

4:15 Jewson Novices' Hurdle (qualifier)
Kens Dream is taken to get the better of Wiggy Smith and Orpen Wide in a classy novice contest. A winner on the Flat at Epsom twonyears ago, Wiggy Smith has taken his last two hurdling contests in his stride and looks progressive. He has the assistance of Tony McCoy and is highly respected. A scorer on the Flat at Beverley last month, Orpen Wides hat-trick attempt over hurdles came unstuck over the course and distance last time. Although that was a handicap, he may still struggle to resume winning ways in this company. One time useful Flat handicapper Kens Dream scored well at Uttoxeter on his latest start, supplementing an earlier Plumpton cakewalk. Although the form of his latest win has been let down by the runner up, Kens Dream may have too much Flat speed for his rivals and can score again.

4:45 Mortons Print Novices' Handicap Chase
Cross The Highman is taken to get the better of Silver Dagger and Rich Song in this small field. Rich Song lost his maiden tag here last time but it may not have been much of a contest and he can be taken on after a long winless run. Silver Dagger has completed a hat-trick of chasing successes recently but went up the handicap as a result and was guilty of mistakes when pulled up last time. He may be a little high in the weights and he is overlooked. Dual hurdling winner Cross The Highman has been knocking on the door in his latest starts and this looks a good opportunity to put the record straight. He has lacked a turn of fot in the closing stages but this may be easier and Tony McCoy can prove an able persuader. Cross The Highman can score here.

5:20 Gilbert And Molly King Memorial Handicap Chase
Green Finger is taken to get the better of Gone Too Far and Tacolino in an intriguing finale. Gone Too Far has been on the go for some time and had a break of sorts before coming back from a two month rest to run a blinder at Perth this month, touched off on the line in a handicap hurdle. It is ten months since his latest chasing win and he may be in the handicappers grip. John Quinn has his string going well under both codes and his Green Finger has been running well of late, slamming his field in a handicap chase at hexham, before finishing a good second in a hurdle contest last time on a retur
