The result will be an internatonal standard pitch, meaning England can train for the World Cup on a superb surface.
Sven Goran Erikkson "I'm very pleased that the pitch at the training ground is to be completely re-laid," said Sven.
"When I visited Germany a few weeks ago, it was clear the pitch needed extensive work. That?s why it was important we had an inspection today involving Wembley groundsman Steve Welch with Tord Grip.
"I'm told the work will start at the beginning of May to ensure we have a first-class pitch for our first training session on June 6.
"The training pitch is the equivalent of the players home for the duration of the World Cup and it is vital it is of the highest standard."
England Blog Comment :: I am glad the FA are on top of the England team training ground situation. The last thing we need is a Roy Keane type incident with our captain David Beckham getting all hot under the collar about the bog-standard training facilities.
According to ex Ipswich, Man Utd, Spurs, Coventry and QPR striker Alan Brazil, the unfortunate debacle that is Wembley Stadium continues.
Brazil works for talk SPORT radio and hosts his own Alan Brazil breakfast show with Graham Beecroft, on which he broke the very sketchy, yet worrying news for England supporters.
Wembley Opening Delayed Until June 2007 Brazil has reported that Wembley will not be opened this June. In fact June 2007 is nearer the truth according to sources close to the ex Scotland international forward.
If Brazil is proven right, the Australian construction firm Multiplex will probably end up owing the FA money than the job is worth for time delay/constrained penalty payments (sic).
Bad Wembley Construction Workers Brazil reports the delays in the Wembley build are due to inferior staff recruited from the East European community here in London, England. One caller to the Brazil breakfast show who used to work on the Wembley construction site, said there were too many staff smoking illegal cannabis on the job, or coming in hungover from drinking sprees amongst the foreign workers.
Wembley Construction Betting The Irish bookmakers Paddypower will not be taking any more bets on the opening date of Wembley Stadium. Not after being stung for more than £10,000 by workers from the Wembley building site, who lumped on the 13/8 odds on offer all the way down to 1/4 on for the previous Wembley start opening date to NOT be met.
Betfred teams up with Wembley Stadium Betfred has been appointed as Wembley Stadium's Official Bookmaker. The alliance starts with immediate effect and will run until 2010. Wembley Stadium is another major sponsorship investment for Betfred and underlines the bookmaker's huge passion for sport. Betfred, which is listed in the UK's top 100 fastest growing privately owned companies,* is used to backing winners. Founder and Chairman of Betfred, Fred Done said:

David Beckham recovered from his groin injury in time to play in the 0-0 bore draw against Real Betis, but did not make the starting line up.
To drop Beckham has been to tempt fate in Spain for previous managers.
Jose Camacho went 2 days after dropping Beckham in september 2004. Mariano Garcia was axed immediately after dropping Becks, Real Madrid lost 2-0 away to Espanyol.
Now Juan Ramon Lopez Caro will very likely pay the same price for dropping England captain Beckham, after his team were booed off the pitch after the 0-0 stalemate.
That said, Juan Ramon Lopez Caro has already conceded he will be booted at the end of this season anyway. Dead man walking springs to mind. Dropping Beckham has not helped Caro atall.
Many England fans want Beckham dropped from the England side and captaincy. The way Wright Phillips played yesterday for Chelsea in their 1-0 Fulham defeat at Craven Cottage, I don't think that is a very good idea.
Previous Real Madrid managers have learnt that lesson the hard way.
Apparently 3500 of the Wembley Stadium construction workers have been sent home after a steal beam weighing 50ton dropped 3 foot from it's fastenings.
Of course, the steel engineers stayed behind to rectify the damage.
The GMB union, which represents the majority of workers on the site, has called for a full investigation into the incident.
The incident is another embarrassment for Multiplex, the Australian construction firm who are in charge of the Wembley build.
♠ The FA cup final will be played at the Millenium stadium after Multiplex said the £757million project has a less than 30% chance of being completed on time. ♠ Multiplex will incur possible fines of maybe £1million per week if the March 31 deadline for the Wembley build is not met. ♠ Multiplex predict losses of £100million re the overall Wembley Stadium project. ♠ Multiplex also face fines of up to £125,000 for missing today's work.
Todays incident will not please US rock band Bon Jovi, who were due to play at the Wembley curtain raiser penciled in for June 10th.
We can actually see up to date pictures of footballers in the 2006 World Cup finals on newspaper websites and the like, without getting sued for image rights by the Fifa Media Services Department
World football's governing body, FIFA and the World Association of Newspapers, WAN, today announced that they had reached an agreement to lift all restrictions on digital publication of photographs of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
The agreement came after a private meeting between the FIFA President, Joseph S. Blatter, and the Chief Executive Officer of WAN, Timothy Balding, who was also representing a coalition of leading news agencies, including Agence France-Presse, Associated Press, Reuters, Getty Images, DPA and EPA.
Mr Blatter said: "Our talks were constructive and reflected FIFA's intent to come to a mutually beneficial solution. Today, almost all print media of relevance have their own web edition and reader preferences increasingly underline a shift in consumer habits to access topical information."
"We understand that the publication of images and text must be treated with the same approach for the sake of maintaining a transparent information management policy that respects the freedom of the press."
"I am satisfied that we have been able to amend the earlier position taken and thus recognise WAN's justified requirements."
"I look forward to an open and ongoing dialogue in the future. In order to avoid future misunderstandings, I have invited WAN to nominate a member to sit on the FIFA Media Committee, where relevant matters pertaining to media relations are discussed openly and constructively".
FIFA Past Media Stance In order to respect contractual obligations to its rights holders, FIFA had originally limited the number of photographs that could be published on the web and required that they only be published two hours after games ended. WAN and the coalition of news agencies had opposed the restrictions on the grounds that they interfered with the media's freedom to report.
Last February FIFA insisted that no photos be published on websites until after the final whistle of matches and limited the number of web published photos to five per match half and two for extra time, including penalty shoot-outs.
FIFA had also disallowed alteration of pictures in print editions that could obscure any World Cup sponsor logo, restricted news websites to using still pictures, and allowed only five images for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Of course, Brazilian superstar Zico (Arthur Antunes Coimbra) is Japan's football team official coach or manager, which I guess tarnishes his opinion somewhat.
An interesting point of view from a World Cup past great nonetheless.
In the betting Japan's odds are long - currently 150/1 shots at Ladbrokes, 250/1 at Bet365 and 358/1 at ibetx.com
Japan can reach World Cup semis says Zico Japan are capable of upsetting the odds and reaching the semi-finals of this summer's World Cup, according to their Brazilian coach Zico. Co-hosts Japan reached the last 16 of the 2002 World Cup and despite being grouped with his homeland, and reigning champions, Brazil, Zico believes the country can reach the last four in Germany.
"We are 18th in the FIFA world rankings but I think we are better than that and can beat anyone on our day," Zico said in an interview with Kicker magazine.
"We could reach the semi-finals but beating Australia in our first game could be crucial."
Japan face Australia on June 12 in Kaiserslautern and then further Group F matches against Croatia and Brazil.
French coach Philippe Troussier guided Japan at the last World Cup but Zico, scorer of 52 goals in 72 internationals for Brazil, believes he has added a new dimension to the team over the past four years.
"In 2002 we missed that extra physical ingredient. Japan would not have gone out at the last 16 stage if they had that.
"I needed to alter the Japanese mentality and make the players more aggressive.
"I have done this and given the players more freedom to express themselves."
Japan were the first team to qualify for the 64 match World Cup finals after cruising through their qualification group.
The Sunday Mirror have printed a photo of Charlton manager Alan Curbishley meeting up with FA Cheif Exec Brian Barwick. The meeting of course was related to the soon to be vacant England managers job.
As we know, Sven will be leaving for pastures new after the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany are over with.
The papers feel they have a scoop with the photos of the FA meeting with Curbishley. However, Adrian Bevington from the FA said "The FA made it very clear three weeks ago that once the Uruguay game had taken place Chief Executive Brian Barwick would begin the process of recruitment for the next England manager."
Charlton boss in pole position to succeed Sven The Charlton boss spent more than two hours on Friday evening discussing the chance of succeeding Sven Goran Eriksson with two FA bosses at the London home of his brother. Our exclusive picture shows Curbishley leaving the football summit with the FA men. Chief executive Brian Barwick was present with his lawyer sidekick Simon Johnson.
The trio met on Friday evening to hear Curbishley outline his vision for England's football future - if he's appointed as the new head coach.
Four hours earlier, at Charlton's training ground, Curbishley hinted at what was about to happen.
He said: "What they have to do is draw up their short list and probably start talking to people now. There's no other way they're going to get it done. Obviously, they have to get it done before the World Cup." While the FA and Curbishley wanted to keep Friday's meeting secret, Charlton chairman Richard Murray has said he will not stand in Curblishley's way if he's offered the England job.
England Blog Comment :: So now you know.
Alan Curbishley might replace Sven Goran Eriksson to be the next England manager, or maybe Curbishley won't be the next England manager atall.
Last I checked the England betting, Curbishley was a 5/1 shot to replace Sven. Sam Allardyce was the favourite at 11/4.
