Poker Tournament Cheats Exposed

Poker Rooms and their multiplayer poker tournaments are big business. Some players are not satisfied with 1 entry it seems.

Gamblog Comment ::
The problem here is the players somewhat cheated yes, but multiple accounts have been around for a along time and the Poker Rooms knew about it for sure.

In fact it was not considered a major problem atall. Now these guys have lost a whole bunch of money, doing something that was not unknown to the Poker Rooms. Behaviour that previously went unpunished.

Quite a can of worms.

Poker Players Alliance Formed

The newly formed Poker Players Alliance seem to be a bunch of folk who are less than amused by some American politicians want to ban online gaming and therefore poker.

The poker players alliance are also unhappy at moves to bar poker from being played under certain circumstances onland.

Game Firms and Red Cross At Odds

Just about every computer game ever infringes patent, but that makes no odds to the Canadian Red Cross, who are adamant they do not want game firms to use the red cross +TM symbol to signify ambulances or medical aid boxes during gameplay.

The red cross symbol is trademarked, so they have a point about it as a graphic. However, the red cross symbolises medical aid of all descriptions. To pick out game making firms is a bit much. The red cross is used everywhere. Not sure what the gamers have done to deserve the pointed finger treatment.

African Palace Casino: player owed $29,585

On November 4th 2004, Bryan Bailey of Casinomeister made the following statement in his African Palace / Indio Casino warning thread:

This player, owed a "five-figure sum", has now felt obliged to go public with his case.

Here is what he has to say as of February 12th 2006:

Source: the "African Palace stole my money" thread at Casinomeister.

In summary:

1) Player deposited a total of $25,170 at both African Palace and Indio Casino in September 2004.

2) He requested a total withdrawal of $41,585, representing a win of $16,415.

3) The casino did not process any of this withdrawal, so the player requested the intervention of Neteller.

4) The casino proposed a settlement of $28,740 - fully $12,845 less than the total cashout.

5) The player accepted the proposal.

6) The casino paid a total of $12,000.

7) The player is still owed $29,585 of his original cashout.

The Playtech "dispute service", whose manager, Iris Toledano, I met at the London International Casino Exhibition in January - see my "Meeting with the Playtech dispute service manager" article - has completely ignored all this player's communications. I forwarded the details of this case to her two weeks ago. She has not responded to me, either.

It should be borne in mind that in spite of winning over $16,000 at African Palace Casino and Indio Casino, the player accepted a settlement representing a win of only a little over $3000. In spite of this extraordinary compliance, he has still been paid less than half of his deposits - $12,000, out of a total of over $25,000.

It goes without saying that Mr. Bailey's advice should be heeded, and that African Palace Casino and Indio Casino should be avoided at all costs.

Mobile gambling targeting society's poorer elements?

I read an interesting article in the February 2006 edition of the gambling industry publication Betting Business, in which it was suggested that apparently surprising facts have emerged about the composition of the mobile gambling public: far from the expected busy executives killing time between meetings, flights and bridge games, it emerges that the majority of mobile gamblers are in fact from the poorer levels of society - I quote: "cash customers at the lowest extremes of the demographic spectrum".

Charles Cohen, CEO of games supplier Probability, speaking at the Mobile Gambling Summit in London last month, had the following to say:

That these gamblers are not from the higher strata of society is further emphasised by the fact that they do not, by and large, have bank accounts. Cohen goes on to say:

As a result, "money shops" have had to be set up across the country to allow the mobile gamblers to cash their cheques - a more expensive alternative, but the only way they can receive their money.

Is this surprising? It's an acknowledged fact that other social vices, such as smoking, drug-taking and even drinking, tend to be most prevalent in the poorer levels of society, those levels in which education and parental guidance may be most lacking.

It would follow logically that mobile gambling, the most recent social "vice", is going to target those same elements of society that can least afford it.
