The Adam Smith Institute writes

Sale of the government's racehorse betting monopoly - the TOTE - cheap to a panel of racing interests would be a lucky windfall to wealthy owners but daylight robbery for the taxpayers who are supposed to own it, says Keith Boyfield.

This ASI report led to a European Commission decision to block the government's cosy deal with the racing industry.

Gamblog Comment :: It is nothing new to me to see the Labour Party selling off things that belong to the public, regardless of the public's opinion.

Right, so now someone is going to say you voted them in. Well they nicked the - privatisation of everything idea - from the Conservative Party - it helped get the Conservatives voted out of power. Now both parties are at it, the public does'nt count, unless the likes of The Adams Instutute kick up a fuss and causing ructions.
