Apparently 3500 of the
Wembley Stadium construction workers have been sent home after a steal beam weighing 50ton dropped 3 foot from it's fastenings.
Of course, the steel engineers stayed behind to rectify the damage.
The
GMB union, which represents the majority of workers on the site, has called for a full investigation into the incident.
The incident is another embarrassment for
Multiplex, the Australian construction firm who are in charge of the Wembley build.
♠ The
FA cup final will be played at the Millenium stadium after Multiplex said the £757million project has a less than 30% chance of being completed on time.
♠ Multiplex will incur possible fines of maybe £1million per week if the March 31 deadline for the Wembley build is not met.
♠ Multiplex predict losses of £100million re the overall Wembley Stadium project.
♠ Multiplex also face fines of up to £125,000 for missing today's work.
Todays incident will not please US rock band
Bon Jovi, who were due to play at the Wembley curtain raiser penciled in for June 10th.

Wembley Stadium Steel Beam Accident Report by Multiplex
(21st March 2006)
Multiplex Group today reports an incident which occurred at the Wembley National Stadium project in the United Kingdom.
At approximately 8.35am GMT, a 30 metre roof rafter moved circa 500 millimetres at one end from its intended permanent position whilst work was being undertaken to remove temporary connections and affix the rafter to its final position.
As a precaution, Multiplex initiated standard evacuation procedures and removed the workforce from site.
Contrary to various media reports immediately after the event in the United Kingdom, the steel did not fall to the ground, the entire roof did not drop and the permanent design is not in question.
Multiplex is conducting a forensic analysis of the temporary works in that location to ascertain the cause of the incident.
Measures are now being taken to fix the rafter in its current position to prevent any further movement and it is anticipated that this work will be completed overnight in the UK. Once the work is complete, the subcontractor delivering the rafter works will proceed with its permanent connection.
The incident has been contained and the workforce will return to all other areas tomorrow, although there may be some disruption to the isolated north-west section. Once permanent works have been completed on the rafter, Multiplex will consider the programme implications of this incident in conjunction with our engineers and subcontractors.
Multiplex should be in a position to provide further information when we provide our March update on the Wembley project at the end of this month.
So are they gonna be on time or not? I can't see it myself. What a farce.
The FA cup will be playued at the Millenium stadium.
Therefore I think it is safe to say the new Wembley Stadium will not be built in time for the first intended build date..
