Real Life Football News Blog Network is a new soccer blog network set-up aimed at covering all aspects of the footballing world, written by supporters of the beautiful game.
I may write some England national team articles for the real life football news network. All depends on time constraints that are out of my control at the moment.
If you want to write some football articles about your favorite team, see the Football Writing Contributers Needed post or contact David for further details.
Sven Goran Eriksson has been in charge as the England manager since early 2001. As a Swede, I believe Sven is the first foreign England national team manager.
I think Sven should count his lucky stars to be in charge of England. I personally never wanted a non English manager any more than I woud like to see a foreign goalie replace Robinson in goal.
I think if you are elidgable to play for the England side via your grandma's birthright or something like that, then that is ok. The same should go for all the coaching staff and the manager in my opinion. Sven has no such claim. The same rules should apply for all international soccer team staff members. If you can't play in the side by nationality, you can't manage or coach the team either.
Maybe a £30 losing betting slip on Roy Hodgson at 33/1 has tainted my opinion on how lucky Sven is to be in charge of the 3 lions. Sven being in charge sure has not been very lucky for me. If a Swede who is not remotely English by birthright wins the world cup for England under the current international football rules, I'll cheer as loud as the next England fan. I just think the rules should not allow such a situation to arise.
Michael Owen rarely plays that badly for Sven's England team. However, his form for his club is not always as good as his England form.
Well, Liverpool always rushed Owen back to fitness from the age of 18 and Real Madrid did not give Michael much of a run in the team, even though he was outplaying the likes of Ronaldo and Raul. So therefore I guess it would be unfair to say Owen only plays well for the national side.
Now Owen is playing regularly next to a decent top class striker in Alan Shearer, he certainly has been hitting some good form for the Geordies. Witnessed by his hat-trick in the 4-2 Newcastle win against highflying West Ham on saturday.
"The partnership is going well and if we can both stay fit then we will cause people problems," vowed Shearer. "We both have great belief in our own ability and our games suit each other.
With him in the team you know you always have a chance of getting goals and he showed that. We said before the game we needed to win to keep going after beating Arsenal.
We've taken seven points from the last three games so things are looking good for us. I am one goal away now (from the record) so hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer for it.
The main thing was the three points. We said we needed to build on the win over Arsenal last weekend and we did just that."
"At half time someone mentioned how dangerous Michael and Alan looked together. I said - I wish they were both 25.
I've worked with some great strike partnerships both as a manager and a player. I think Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush were a very special partnership. Similarly, Roberto Mancini and Gianluca Vialli were two great attackers who complemented each other well. Michael and Alan are in that class. You couldn't slide a piece of paper between any of those players. In terms of their football, they all gave something very special to their teams."
Hopefully the England international players will like the hotel and surroundings in Germany. As an England fan, I want no excuses from the players about the facilities. Can you say Roy Keane?
Sven's Opinion Of The England Team Base Camp I'm delighted with the hotel. I know that there has been a huge amount of work going on throughout the year to find the right place for the team. I understand around 30 hotels across Germany have been checked out in advance to ensure we have the best available.
It's so important that we have the right base camp, as this will be the players home and set the atmosphere as we prepare for all of our games.
When I went out to visit the hotel personally a few months ago, I was immediately struck by the magnificence of the hotel and the fantastic views of the Black Forest.
We've already identified a training ground five minutes from the hotel which we will use every day and our we are within a good travelling distance to the venues we have been drawn to play in during the group phase.
Additionally, we have the beautiful spa town of Baden Baden only a few miles away which has a marvellous atmosphere with some wonderful restaurants and cafes.
I'm already very excited about the World Cup next summer and now the draw has been made and we've chosen our hotel. I can't wait for the tournament to begin and hopefully this hotel will be the launch pad for us to achieve success in Germany."
Peter Crouch has scored 4 goals in the last 3 games or so for Liverpool as of late. Peter's return to form has pleased the England team manager Sven Goran Eriksson no end.
Crouch is physically a double handful at 6 foot 7, is quite skilful for such a tall player, has a decent first touch and can create goals for others around him. As all football fans we know though, when you play up front, you need to score goals on a regular basis, otherwise the pressure mounts on any striker, however well you play on the football pitch.
Crouch Impresses Sven Lately "It's great to see Peter starting to score regularly. He's taken a lot of unfair criticism since moving to Liverpool - despite playing very well.
I know that like myself, Rafa Benitez has had complete faith in Peter's ability to score goals, so it's pleasing for everyone that he's scored four goals in recent games.
Peter contributes so much to any team, and particularly when he's scoring goals he is a tremendous threat to any defence.
I've been greatly impressed with the professional attitude he has maintained while he was waiting for the goals to come and he is such a likeable person who has a great spirit.
He is a threat in the air or on the ground, and as we saw yesterday, capable of scoring very good goals.
Peter's a real team player, which the Liverpool fans have already recognised, and I'm sure England supporters will understand this - the more they see of him in an England shirt.
I'll be watching on Sunday morning and I will be keeping a close eye on Liverpool's England players. I wish them luck and hope they can win the World Club Championship for English Football."
England Blog Comment - I am glad to see Crouch playing well. As a QPR fan, I got to see Crouch play live for my club for 1 season before he was sold on for a million pound profit, to please the QPR administrators. He played well for sure. Good to see him finding his scoring boots again.
Shaun Wright Phillips, adopted son of ex England, Arsenal and Crysyal Palace striker Ian Wright, has not completed a full 90 minutes for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side all season. Chelsea signed Phillips for £21 million, but the right midfielder only gets on for bit part cameo roles.
Sven Goran Eriksson won't even think of dropping Beckham to play Wright Phillips in thr England team if the right sided winger does'nt complete a full match for his club side, even if it is the Dutch international soccer star Arjen Robben keeping the ex Man City player on the bench.
Seems like Shaun Wright Phillips might aswell stayed and played at Manchester City for Stuart Pearce, rather than sit on the bench doing nothing much for Roman Abramovich's real life subutteo soccer project - Chelsea FC
I dare say Phillips has fattened the bank account, but his lack of games is not going to help his footballing career any. Wright Phillips probably has made the wrong move, by moving to Chelsea. We shall see.
A new England team blog called 45 Minutes Each Way is interested to know if Umbro are picking the England football team, or what? The editor Daryl raises the selection/sponsorship question, based upon Umbro's vice president Martin Prothero's latest comments about the Man City and England 3rd string goalie David James.
Are Umbro Picking The England Team? The Daily Mirror carries a strange story today. It seems someone at Umbro has received assurances that David Calamity James will definitely be in England's World Cup Squad. Umbro supply the England team kit but they also sponsor David James individually, giving them a vested interest in where he spends next summer.
The Mirror quote Umbro's senior vice-president Martin Prothero as saying "We have been led to believe David James will be in the squad. David has had his critics but he's very experienced."
England blog comment - Umbro, the kit manufacturers have recently finalised a £200million deal with the FA to extend their sponsorship until 2014 with the 3 lions. I guess that means Umbro do have some sort of direct line to the bowels of the England team setup.
Fifa general secretary Urs Linsi has ruled out any possibility that the new Adidas and Cairos Tech "smart-ball" will be used for the 2005/2006 World Cup finals.
In other words, there will certainly be a match or two decided by referee's or a linesman error.
Fifa Opinion "We consider the technology is not yet ready.
The logical consequence of this is that we will not used in Germany in 2006 FIFA general secretary Urs Linsi said." (Fifa - No Smartball For WC Statement)
Adidas Reply "We knew of this decision in advance of course, so we are not surprised, nor are we disappointed.
The tracking system can be applied to any ball that we manufacture so it has not affected the development or production of the ball to be used at the World Cup finals which we believe will be the best ball ever used in the tournament.
We are still developing the tracking system and when we are convinced it is 100 percent bullet-proof, 100 percent perfect, then that will be the time for it to be used said Thomas van Schaik, Adidas spokesman."

Pele Edson Arantes do Nascimento thinks England can get to the world cup final in 2006 - but of course, still rates Brazil to win. I would worry if Pele did'nt. Pele is worried however, by the amount of players the Brazil coaxh has to pick from and wonders whether the yellows coach will get his team selection right.
Pele Tips England for Final England could be in the final, no doubt. I saw every game in the last two years and I think England have improved a lot.
I think England, Italy and Brazil over the last two years have been the best teams, but of course we are still seven months before the World Cup.
But if no-one gets injured and everyone has a chance to be there and in shape, I think England could be in the final.
Pele Still Hot On Brazil's Chances "England could beat Brazil but the World Cup is very tough. The quarter and semi-finals are just one game and the World Cup is a box of surprises. Anything can happen.
I don't feel comfortable with being the favourite - they don't win.
I think Brazil are the best team because they have two players in each position, but the coach has too many good players in the same position and he doesn't know which players to use."
England Blog Comment = Brazil last won the World Cup in Europe against Sweden in 1958 in Sweden (final score - Brazil 5-2 Sweden). Brazil are currently 3/1 favourites to lift the Jules Rimet trophy. England are joint second favourites with Germany at 6/1, so Pele is not exactly sticking his neck out with his prediction. However, it does underline England's chances somewhat.
British fans supporting the England team in Germany next year, will get ripped off/charged incredible prices by German hotels for sure. So will the ther countries fans by the way.
In Frankfurt where he England squad face Paraguay, it is reported that hotels have hiked up the prices by 134 percent. One hotel is even charging £192 a night next June compared to this weeks rate of £31.
England Fans travelling to Cologne for the Sweden game can expect to pay an extra 38.5 percent if they book now.
In Hamburg, which hosts a quarter-final, German hotel bills have doubled. In Berlin, the venue for the final, it costs an extra 55 per cent already for a hotel room.
British football liason in Germany Andy Batson said Transport will face a price hike. Aeroplane flights will be more expensive and so will the german train tickets.
England Blog Comment - There will be a lot of German beer drunk too, they will be stronger and more expensive to drink and buy than usual. Apparently there will be English police and English military police on German soil, so don't drink too much and do behave.
More World Cup tickets on sale for England fans maybe?
England team supporters need more tickets for the 2005/2006 World Cup finals than is available. 3 lions fans will be glad to hear there may be more tickets available for group B matches.
More tickets could be made available according to English fans the FA if England's opponents fail to sell out their allocations.
The English FA has already received tickets for about eight per cent of the German ground capacities for the matches against Sweden, Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Swedes are likely to sell out their own allocation, and the FA should be given first refusal on any returns from the other two countries. Any extra tickets gained will be sold to the FA official supporters group
FA Exec Director David Davies on BBC Radio 5 Live "The FA is doing everything it can to ensure the maximum number of tickets is available to England fans.
We are the best supported nation on the planet and we have a responsibility to seek every ticket we can.
We are doing everything we can and we are confident that extra tickets can be made available but we can never satisfy the fantastic support this team gets."
England Blog Comment Fifa ridiculously enough, are only allowing world cup tickets to be purchased via Mastercard which is an absolute disgrace. Remember England fans, we have until January to apply for the remaining tickets for all matches via a ballot system.
Former West German international midfielder Wolfgang Overath suggested on Friday Iran should be banned from the 2006 World Cup finals because of a call by Iran's president to move Israel to Europe.
Overath, the president of Bundesliga club Cologne and a member of West Germany's 1974 World Cup winning team, said the world football governing body FIFA should consider banning Iran due to the remarks from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that have sparked widespread condemnation.
England Blog Comment - Politics should have no place in football competitions. Iran should not be barred from entering the World Cup finals in my opinion.
England have drawn Sven Goran Eriksson's home team Sweden again. Also England must play the dangerous South American side Paraguay and the Caribbean's Trinidad and Tobago.
This is not a group of death, but it is not an easy world cup final draw by any means.
I think England will win Group B, but football is a funny old game I gather.
GROUP A Germany GER Costa Rica CRC Poland POL Ecuador ECU
GROUP B England ENG Paraguay PAR Trinidad and Tobago TRI Sweden SWE
GROUP C Argentina ARG Ivory Coast CIV Serbia & Montenegro SCG Netherlands NED

The group winners and the runner up teams go through to the knockout rounds, consisting of 16 nations.
World Cup Knockout Stages ♠ Winners of Group A plays Runner-up of Group B in Munich on Saturday June 2 ♠ Winners of Group B plays Runner-up of Group A in Stuttgart on Sunday June 25 ♠ Winners of Group C plays Runner-up of Group D in Leipzig on Saturday June 24 ♠ Winners of Group D plays Runner-up of Group C in Nuremberg on Sunday June 25 ♠ Winners of Group E plays Runner-up of Group F in Kaiserslautern on Monday June 26 ♠ Winners of Group F plays Runner-up of Group E in Dortmund on Tuesday June 27 ♠ Winners of Group G plays Runner-up of Group H in Cologne on Monday June 26 ♠ Winners of Group H plays Runner-up of Group G in Hanover on Tuesday June 27 (group winners and runners up qualify for the knockout round of 16 teams)
England Blog Comment - Soccer fans across the world will hope their teams can do well. Brazil are the 3/1 clear favourites to win the World Cup, but don't forget, the South Americans do not do well in the finals when the competition is held in Europe.
England are seeded, so won't be meeting the top seeded footballing nations Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Germany, France, Italy or Spain in the first round. We could draw Holland, Czech republic, Australia, America or surprise surprise, the Poland side.
That said, Sven is scared of no one. Of course, to win the World Cup you have to beat every national side from all countries and continents in one way or another.
Sven spoke the The FA Website about the draw, here is what Eriksson had to say on the opposition and our players.
Sven Not Scared Of Any Team "If you want to win it you have to beat them all.
And if you look at the list I don't think we need to be afraid of anybody, absolutely not. I think they are as afraid of us as we are of them - and the right word for us is not afraid, it's respect.
Of course you have to have respect if you meet Brazil, Argentina, or Holland. And you have to play very well, but I know we can do that."
Sven On England Players Ability "I think we are technically better than we were in the previous two tournaments, much better and much more experienced.
If you look at players like Rooney, Owen, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, the centre-halves, Ashley Cole, Gary Neville. These players are right up there, they can compete with any player out there.
I know I said the same before Euro 2004 but I'm more convinced today, much more convinced than I was then.
If all our players hit form it will be difficult to beat us. I think we can win it, I have always said that. We are one of four sides who can win it."
Sven Not Nervous About World Cup Draw "No, I'm not nervous before the draw because you can't do anything about it. You have to sit there and hope for the best.
I remember last time in Japan it was awful. The last one in the group was Nigeria and we already had Argentina and Sweden. At that time Adam Crozier was sitting next to me and I bet that Nigeria would come out - and it did!"
Sven's Worst Case Scenario "If you asked me the worst case scenario this time I would say Holland, because they are the best team not seeded, Australia and the United States.
But at the World Cup you have to be up for every game and it won't be easy no matter who you face. I think in Germany you won't see many results like three or four nil. I think it will be very tight games, whether it's famous teams or not famous teams. We have to be ready and we will be."
England Blog Comment - The group of death would be Holland, USA and Australia I guess. Sven agrees somewhat. However, the truth is the national sides who are unseeded will be more scared of England than we are of them.
Who will be representing the England team I do not know. Ex Man Utd Legend Bobby Charlton usually shows his face to represent the English FA - but whoever is there, let's hope England get a nice draw in Leipzig.
The other 7 seeded nations are Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico from South America. The European seeds are Germany, France, Italy, Spain. Don't forget England.
Apparently Fifaseeded England in second place behind Brazil, which is a surprise.
When the World Cup draw is made for the group stages, England will avoid the other 7 seeded nations. Unseeded International sides include Holland, the Czech's and America. Hopefully Sven's team get a nice easy draw, so England can get through with the minimum of fuss. Eriksson may be able to get every player in the squad a runout, while progressing through to the cup knockout stages. Yeah right, one can wish.
The nation expects the Jules Rimet trophy to belong to the English for a while, the more knowledgable football fans are hopeful if not confident I guess, I don't know.
I for one think England have a fair chance of winning the World cup Let's hope Argentina knock out the Brazilians, for the boys in yellow have the hoodoo over us, while we seem to be able to handle the Argentinian soccer team somewhat.
Apparently, the former England, Newcastle, Spurs, Everton and Lazio playmaker/midfielder Gascoigne was in no fit state to run the team. I gather Ladak has been cited as saying that Gascoigne committed 37 offences during 39 days at the football club.
Imraan Ladak Added Paul was under the influence of alcohol before, during and after several first-team games and training sessions.
Paul needs help. So many people have been waiting for him to go wrong. The bookmakers have said he'll be out before Christmas. The pressure has got the better of him.
It would be great if people got behind Paul and didn't knock him."
Now what I want to know, is why Gascoigne was not sacked before so many alledged "drink related offences" took place. What gives here? Gascoigne is a big name and has put Kettering Town FC on the footballing world map with his mere presence. Gazza Has Refuted Ladak's Claims by the way.
Why sack Gazza now? Why not before? Many questions, little in the way of answers. I guess we will all have to wait and see what the soccer news gods have in store for us. I get the feeling Ladaak will milk this for all it is worth. Can you say - I'll see you in court mr Gascoigne? I'd lay short odds that is what Ladaak has planned for our Paul.
I think it's about time people got off of Gazza's back to be honest. Long live Gazza.
The Fifa official national team rankings only have England as 9th best team in the world, after teams like Mexico and the USA. It is unlikely those national sides will be ranked above England in the seedings.
The bookies have the 3 lions as 3rd favourites to win the World Cup Jules Rimet trophy, but they don't decide who gets seeded, more is the pity.
The other national football teams vying for seeding are Brazil, Argentina from South America and the European nations - Czech Republic, Holland, France, Italy and Spain.
I think England should be ranked as one of the 6 top seeds, along with Brazil, Argentina, France, Italy and Holland in that order.
Being seeded is helpful, as England will be assured of not having to play against the other seeded soccer outfits in the group stages of the finals.
Sven Goran Eriksson agrees.
Sven On Fifa Seedings "The world ranking is important but it is also what you did in the last two or three World Cups. I doubt very much the US and Mexico will be seeded before us.
We asked Fifa if we would be seeded or not and what are the rules and they did not answer.
I hope we are seeded because that will be very important. If we are not we cannot protest about it.
We are one of five or six teams that can do it. The players are convinced, like I am, that we can win the World Cup.
If we do not have any injuries and are not tired at the end of the Premier League season we have a good chance."
Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Frank Lampard are the three finalist's for the Fifa World Player Of The Year Award. Ronaldinho is the current holder of the title from 2004 and will be crowned the player of 2005, but Lampard has done well to get on the final 3 shortlist.
Sven has been singing the praises of Chelsea's attacking midfielder. The England soccer team manager said Lampard The Complete Player
Sven Opinion Of Lampard "I am absolutely delighted for Frank,
We have already seen this week how highly regarded he is in Europe and now this shows what people think of him all over the world.
He is one of the best midfielders in the world right now. I can think of almost no weakness in his game. He has tremendous energy, a complete range of passing - both long and short, he can tackle and he scores more goals from midfield than most strikers.
Add to that his fitness and consistency, which have now created new records in England, and you can see how many assets he has a player.
As a person, he is very much someone you want to work with. He has drive and a huge ambition to succeed but he still wants to learn and improve his game, which he has done so much in the last two or three years. He is an excellent ambassador for English football and football in general. I want to say well done to Frank and good luck."
England Blog Comment Frank Lampard has been in top form for his club and country and very consistent overall which helps. Lampard has scored a hat-full of goals from midfeild in the premier league this season for the Mourinho led West Londoners.
Sven Goran Eriksson obviously thinks Lampard is a model professional and deserves his recognition on the global soccer scene.
Globally speaking, Barcelona's Samual Eto'o has played ball well for the Spanish giants, but should not beat Lampard into second place after the Brazilian intenational Ronaldinho.
