England players will recieve a £300,000 bonus if England manage to win the 2006 World Cup next year.
Obviously, many England fans will ask the question - "why do the players beed a bonus?" - should they not be honoured to play for their country.
David Beckham recently opened the Beckham football academy and broached the subject of England players recieving a World Cup winners bonus.
David Beckham Opinion "The truth is that we're earning less for this World Cup than the last one," he told the Evening Standard newspaper.
The FA make money and the players always get bonuses. If we do not succeed then the money is not there.
I know for a fact that every one of the players in our team would play for our country for nothing.
There is money in football and we talk about bonuses every time a big competition comes around and there is always criticism of the players when bonuses are agreed.
But money isn't the motivation - not at all. When you are a 15-year-old watching the World Cup, you don't dream of playing in it because you can make loads of money.
Players don't think like that, you want to be there to play on that stage."
England Blog Comment - If England win the World Cup, the players can have their £300 thousand bonus with my blessing.
George Best, the one and only, is at the point of no return.
Reports are that George is still with us as I write, but his doctors have made an announcement that Geroge is in the final stages of his illness, but is not in any pain right now.
An irreversable lung condition has been described as the final blow, by a very emotional Professor Roger Williams, George's doctor.
All the Best family are at George's bedside.
Update - George Best Is Gone. Arguably the best ever. Only Pele and possibly Maradona can be mentioned in the same breath as George.
Word is maybe the Northern and Republic of Ireland will play each other in memory of George. Maybe both Ireland teams will join together in a friendly against the England team.
One can only hope the troubles in Ireland will end one day. It is for the Best - "George Best". It was his wish, it should be granted.

England will have 3 friendlies before the World Cup finals start in 6 months.
Sven will not be naming who those friendly fixtures are against, until the draw for the World Cup finals have taken place in Leipzig on the 9th od December.
Sven Said About The Friendly Fixtures "Of course we are looking at our options.
But the thing that makes the most sense is to wait to see who we are drawn with in Germany.
That way we can pick the teams to play who will be most useful in terms of building towards the Finals.
We will find out who that will be on 9 December and then we can start to arrange our games.
I must say once again a thank you to the fans who supported us so fantastically in Geneva and for our whole qualifying campaign.
The players, the coaches and everyone involved with England is already looking forward to March when we can play our next game."
England Blog Comment >> So now you know. Sven won't let us know.
The under 21's started strongly. Darren Bent hit the post on 9 minutes and 4 minutes later Bent forced a good save from the French u21 keeper Jeremy Gavanon. The French got into the game and could have taken the lead through Julien Faubert's shot from the edge of the box on 17.
The French and English youngsters traded blows back and forth until the half time whistle. After the break the goals came.
10 minutes after the restart, Darren Bent(55) headed home Ryan Taylor's cross, but the lead only lasted only 4 minutes as the French struck back quickly via the impressive French midfielder Franck Ribery(59).
To be honest we should have won the match and tie with a late away goal from Dean Ashton, but the Norwich striker headed a decent chance just wide. Just as the tie looked destined for extra time, Kieron Richardson fouled Diarra in the penalty area. Briand squeezed the penalty past keeper Scott Carson and we were out 2-1. Grim.
England u21's Scott Carson, Ryan Taylor, Michael Dawson, Anton Ferdinand, Nedum Onuoha (Peter Whittingham 79), Darren Ambrose (Dean Ashton 66), Gary O'Neil, Tom Huddlestone, Kieran Richardson, Darren Bent, Carlton Cole (Cameron Jerome 89)
France u21's Gavanon; Sagna, Zubar, Badiane, Berthod; Faubert, Didot (Diarra 56mins), Mavuba, Ribery; Briand, Le Tallec
England Blog Comment >> Peter Taylor will not be happy. England were very unlucky to not go through to the Euro finals next year. There are a few managers who will be happy enough to see there youngster resting up at home, rather than playing in the Euro's.
Journalist Chris Sherrard has questioned Steven Gerrard's role in the England team. I must admit, Gerrard is quite frustrating for me personally. Gerrard has the attributes needed to be the ultimate midfield ball-winner and defensive midfielder.
Gerrard Abilities Aggression, pace, tackling ability, size, strength and the positional sense when the mood takes him. Added to that, Gerrard can join up with attacks without looking embarrassed to join in. Can you say Makalele?
Gerrard does disappear from a game when asked to play the holding role, it is undeniable. Look at the champions league final. Liverpool and Gerrard were non-existant against AC Milan in the first half. When Liverpool put Hamann on in the second half to play the ballwinner role, Gerrard turned the game while unshackled from his defensive midfield duties.
Gerrard could be by a street, the best ballwinning/defensive midfielder in the world game. It would be nice if he put his mind to playing that role, but maybe that would detract from the player that Gerrard is today. This frustrates me somewhat because Sven ends up playing a Nicky Butt or a Ledley King in there instead of Gerrard.
Drop Gerrard? I would not drop Gerrard, I would put him in the defensive midfielder role and leave him there. Chris Sherrard is of the same mind, if slightly harsher than I. I do however, share the similar thought pattern.
Chris Sherrard on Steven Gerrard England Role >>
"The Rooney back-up one is pertinent, as is the quandary over Steven Gerrard's role.
There's no doubting his brilliance in the red of Liverpool where he is the main man, skipper and driving force.
But in the white of his country he becomes marginalised and drifts onto the periphery of things. Just what is his purpose?
Because Gerrard isn't a left-winger, as Wayne Bridge's weary legs found to their cost against Argentina.
And he isn't a holding midfielder, otherwise he would have been deployed in such a position long ago.
Gerrard is a creative midfield dynamo who is best with time to spread glorious "Hollywood" passes around the pitch. But, wait a minute. Isn't there another bloke on the field, wearing the skipper's armband, doing just that already?
Ok, so if he isn't given the freedom for that role then surely his purpose is to bomb forward and be sniffing around on the edge of the opposition area ready with low, powerful drives into the corner of the net.
But isn't that exactly what Frank Lampard is the world's best at these days?
So where does all that leave the Liverpool captain?
Surplus to requirements it would appear. Strange and confusing that a superstar like Gerrard is not really needed for his country but that's how it appears to me.
He didn't bring anything significant to the side against Argentina. There was one slide-rule pass through to Rooney which was spectacular but for the most part he was drifting in and out of the game - a direct negative of his club placing.
I'm not saying that Gerrard should be the one to miss out but, hey, there's not much chance of Beckham sitting it out, is there?"
England Blog Comment >> Gerrard is still the man. I would just leave him to sort out how to play the defensive midfield role in his own good time.
The under 21's take on France in Nancy tonight. Taylor spoke to the FA website about the match and how he wants the U21 players top be inspired by the England 1st team's performance and 3-2 win against the Argentinians.
U21 Manager Peter Taylor >> "We saw a video of the Argentina game and everyone was delighted. It meant a lot to everyone and everyone's feeling much better about themselves. When England seniors win a game like that...the young players here are really up for it.
Sven is definitely coming to the game on Tuesday and that is brilliant. The players will enjoy him being here. We talk quite a lot about players. Sven takes a big interest. He asks me about certain players and I will tell him about certain players who impress me.
Players will be fighting hard for one of those positions in the squad. Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney will take some shifting but you need an alternative from the bench and that's what they'll be looking for.
Not only will it be a great education for the players but those born in 1983 will be too old to carry on, so they can extend their Under-21 careers and play in the finals. I feel we can play a lot better that we did on Friday. I have no doubt if we are positive and not make silly mistakes we can do it. The players are very confident.
This is a dangerous score for both teams. France know we are capable of scoring and they will be nervous of us doing that. It will be a close match but we won't be doing anything silly too early. If it's 0-0 on 80 minutes then it will be a kitchen sink job."
England Blog Comment >> The u21's do have quite a few injuries. I have faith and hope, but I know the French will be difficult to get past. Maybe we should have sent Rooney out to France, as he still qulaifies easily for the unders 21's.
Sir Alex Ferguson would not have been amused, but who cares about that?
Word is England will be bidding to host the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
Of course, the FA are being cagey. But such as football politics go, we have heard the pre-cursor to an official bid forthcoming in the foreseeable future. In my opinion of course.
No mention of a Great Britain bid to host the World Cup, so I doubt a joint bid with Scotland, Wales, North and Republic of Ireland is in the works.
Director of Communications Adrian Bevington >> "A bid to bring the World Cup Finals back to England in 2018 will be given serious consideration.
But it will be at least next autumn before we would put any definite proposals in place.
It's fantastic news that the Government, through the Treasury, have announced their support for any future bid.
But, in terms of the precise nature of any such bid, that won't be decided on for another year or so."
England Blog Comment >> We have the stadiums, we have the history. It has been a long time since 1966, when England last hosted the World Cup finals.
England are now 7/1 joint third favourites at Ladbrokes alongside Germany and Italy to win the World Cup next year. After beating Argentina, money has come in for England to triumph in Germany and the bookies have dropped the price by a point. England were 8/1 4'th favourites before the Argentina win.
Brazil are still rated as a 3/1 favourite in the betting. Argentina remain steady at odds of 11/2. Holland are at priced up at 8's and France are 11/1, with Spain following in the betting at 12/1 after their 5-1 thrashing of Slovakia. Trinidad and Tobago are the complete outsiders in the betting at the rather tight odds of 2500/1.
World Cup Betting Odds at LadbrokesBrazil 3/1 fav Argentina 11/2 England 7/1 Germany 7/1 Italy 7/1 Holland 9/1 France 11/1 Spain 12/1 Portugal 20/1 Sweden 25/1 Czech Republic 28/1 Croatia 50/1 Serbia and Montenegro 50/1 Ukraine 50/1 Mexico 66/1 Paraguay 66/1 Poland 80/1 USA 80/1 Uruguay 80/1 Ivory Coast 100/1 Switzerland 100/1 Ecuador 125/1 Japan 125/1 Australia 150/1 Norway 150/1 Korea Republic 150/1 Turkey 150/1 Ghana 200/1 Tunisia 200/1 Iran 250/1 Costa Rica 350/1 Togo 350/1 Angola 500/1 Saudi Arabia 500/1 Bahrain 750/1 Slovakia 2000/1 Trinidad and Tobago 2500/1
England blog comment >> 7/1 joint third favourites in the betting seems like a fair enough price I guess. Patriotic England fans will bet at those odds, I however will not be betting, patriotic as an England fan I am. I already have enough on already, just sitting and watching England perform in the World Cup. 7/1 is only a fair price, I prefer to bet with the odds in my favour.
u21 England 1 Ambrose 87 u21 France 1 Le Tallec 47
35'000 fans to watch an under 21 clash can't be bad. White Hart lane must have been rocking. I missed the game sadly.
Liverpool's Anthony Le Tallec put the French u21's ahead just after the break. I gather the French deserved their lead after England's early dominance, but ended up lucky to go home with a 1-1 draw after England really put their foot down on the throttle for the majority of the second half.
Charlton's Darren Ambrose got England level very late on (87) after a host of England chances went begging. Darren Bent hit the woodwork and missed a good few more. Gladly Bent's team mate Ambrose levelled, to set up a real humdinger in France in the Stade Marcel Picot in Nancy in 2 days time. (tuesday november 15, live on Sky)

England Blog Comment >> I am not sure whether away goals count for the playoff final leg, I hope not.
Argentina 2 Crespo 34, Samuel 53 England 3 Rooney 39, Owen 86, 90. Attendance = 29,000 Referee = Philippe Leuba (Switzerland)
The Argentina team left Geneva looking sad, the English looked decidedly happy. With 10 minutes to go, we were 2-1 down and even Sven looked miffed. The English Swedish manager actually got out of his chair and was barking orders at times. This was no friendly, take no talk on that one.
The Argentinians nearly put England to the sword in the first 15 minutes, but our goalkeeper Robinson was assured between the sticks. as time went on, we got into the swing of things. Lampard nipped a header from a corner just wide of the post.
On the half hour mark Rooney rattled the post and at last, the Argentinians looked rattled too. I was slightly bemused to see Crespo tap in the first goal, against the run of play, a nothing ball from out wide, after a deflection from Rio capsized our defence.
Gladly, maybe surprisingly, the England players paid no attention to the setback and nearly equalised 2 minutes later from a Gerrard long distance effort. It was not long, 5 minutes in fact, before Rooney anticipated Beckham winning a header on the edge of the Argentian penalty area. Rooney knocked the ball home and it was all level again. At half time the honours were even. A fair scoreline I guess.
Second Half >> The second half started the same as the first, the Argentinians were on top. Konchesky was on for Wayne Bridge at left back but it did not help. It was all Argentina again. Their movement off the ball was worrisome.
A poorly defended free kick withing 8 minutes of the restart and it was 2-1 to Argentina, we were behind the 8 ball again. Of course, thereafter England huffed and puffed but looked poor going forward. We could'nt get Rooney in the game atall.
The country waited in anticipation, gladly Sven never waited too long. He replaced Ledley King before 60 minutes with Joe Cole and put Gerrard in the anchor role. Now we had our strongest side out. I was pleased. Granted Gerrard lacks the discipline to pay the anchor role properly. But he certainly has every attribute needed technically, if not the brain. Still no way through.
Plan B >> With 10 minutes to go, Luke Young went off, Gerrard went to right back, Rooney slipped back a spot to support man, Joe Cole dropped back into midfield next to Beckham. Peter Crouch went up front next to Owen. The Argentinians fell to pieces. Crouch was taking balls layed from deep down on his chest that everyone else would have flicked on. We were in business. Argentina stuttered and looked baffled to me. I could feel something was going to give. An equaliser suddenly looked like the only thing possible to me.
2-2 >> Om 86 Rooney swung the ball wide right, Gerrard poured forward into the space from right back. A decent cross, some inept bottle job defending from the Argentinians and Owen sniffing around the 6 yard box. The result was a headed backpost equaliser for England.
You know, there was 4 minutes left, but the Argies looked miffed. Crouch was winning everything he should and then some. Rooney was feeding off him, Joe Cole was taking people on, Beckham was everywhere. It was backs to the wall for Argentina.
In injury time, the real Joe Cole stepped up. Twiddled the right back with ease after floating through unchallenged from midfield, made space, floated the ball in nicely to Owen. Owen did what he does when service is forthcoming. A headed finish from 10 yards had the English feeling happy at 3-2, the Argentinians looked decidely beaten, as you do, when you get your ass kicked fairly and squarely.
A freindly was won 3-2 against top opposition, played at the pace of a full blooded international with a trophy waiting at the end of it. A good day for the English, a lesson for the Argentinians. Sit back with the English in full flow and you risk losing everything in 10 minutes flat.
England Team Robinson, Young (Crouch 80), Terry, Ferdinand, Bridge (Konchesky 46), Lampard, King (Cole 58), Beckham, Gerrard, Rooney, Owen. Subs Not Used: James, Campbell, Wright-Phillips, Defoe, Neville, Smith, Green, Carrick, Jenas. Booked: Young, Lampard, Cole.
England Blog Comment >> Today we roared loud in the end. 3 lions, 3 goals and a nice scalp for Sven to add to his tally. The Argentinians will not be looking forward to meeting England in Germany next year.
The England squad has been announced by Sven for the upcoming saturday England V Argentina friendly (Sat, 12 November 2005)
IN >> David James is back in the squad. Carrick and Wayne Bridge get a recall and the in-form Paul Konchesky is in. Sadly Woodgate pulled a hamstring last night playing for Real Madrid.
Crouch stays in Svens plans too, despite his poor goalscoring form for Liverpool. Crouch has though, been getting a fair amount of assists when he has played. No return for Vassell though, despite his return to form.
OUT >> Carragher is out injured. Kieron Richardson and Darren Bent drop down to the 21's to help out with the upcoming European Under-21 Championship play-offs against France.

Tony Adams would like to see Sven play Rio Ferdinand in front of the defence. Terry and Campbell at centre back, Rio Ferdinand at anchor. Of course, Harry Redknapp will have you know that Rio can play in midfield if called upon, so it's not that an outlandish proposal.
Tony Adams On New Rio Role At Anchor >> "Rio's distribution is wonderful and I would love to see him in that holding midfield role."
"I think he is technically good enough to do that and I would like to see if it works. He can't do it at Man United because there is too much pressure there at the moment and they haven't got another two centre-halves. But he can do it for England, and I think we could use him in there.
"Ledley King did that job fantastically well at Old Trafford recently but Rio has the requirements to do it too. It gives us another option and if I was a manager I would want to know whether he could do it or not.
"It may be a case of us playing France and Zidane is having a fantastic game and you go "come on, semi-final, get yourself in there Rio and do a job."
Darren Bent and Kieron Richardson have dropped down to the Under 21 squad to hopefully help England to get through the upcoming European Under-21 Championship play-off against France.
Sven Said >> Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "These play-off matches are big occasions and it was important for Darren and Kieran's international experience to play against one of the best young teams in Europe."
"They are both still very much part of my plans for the senior squad but I know they will be looking forward to showing what they can do in competitive games against top-class opposition."
Peter Taylor said >> "I'm delighted to have Darren and Kieran back in the squad. Both of them played an important part in getting us to the play-offs and players of their quality will certainly add to the squad."
"They have done extremely well to get into the senior squad but Sven and I both felt that it was important for them to be part of the Under-21s set-up for what will be two very testing matches."
"All the Under-21s players will be encouraged by the fact that, if they perform well, Sven is a manager who will give young players a chance.
"We know France will be a tough challenge for us. They always produce outstanding young players and finished top of a very competitive group. However, we have played some really exciting attacking football this season and confidence is high."
"I know the Spurs players in particular will be looking forward to playing in front of their home crowd, and we will want to make home advantage count in the first leg."

Beckham Life David Beckham (David Robert Joseph Beckham - OBE) was born in Leytonstone London on May 2 1975 to "David aka Ted" and Sandra Beckham. Becks currently plays for LA Galaxy in America and lives there with his wife Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice and 3 children (Romeo, Brooklyn, Cruz).
Beckham Football Debut Beckham made his England international debut against Moldova in September 1996. His first club was Manchester United and he made his club debut in March 1995. Beckham left Man Utd at the end of the 2002/2003 season after a falling out with manager Alex Ferguson to join Real Madrid for a reported fee of £25 million. Beckham has now joined the American team LA Galaxy after Real Madrid failed to offer him a contract quickly enough, which ended on the 30th of June 2007.
Becks Abilities Beckham is the most famous footballer in the world today. His technical and physical attributes are a top quality cross in his attacking armoury, good passing skills and a high work rate. Becks free kicks are second to none. Beckham is also the ex England team captain. The negatives for me are his temper sometimes gets the better of him on the pitch, and he is playing in the MLS league in America, which is not the most competetive in the world.
Beckham Youth Soccer Academy Also worth a look is the just opened David Beckham Football Academy For Kids which can't be bad. Hopefully Becks employs some top quality youth coaches who will stay for the duration. Not ex pros who just want to use the teaching of the youngsters as a stepping stone into club management.
The best Beckham soccer related sites for Becks fans on the net today - from a bloggers point of view.
Sven has always liked Vassell. I would not be surprised to see Darius in the next England squad to face Argentina in the friendly in Geneva, Switzerland in a few days time.
Peter Crouch is certainly out of form, but I doubt Sven will drop him. I still rate Vassell as a 50/50 chance to get in against the Argentinians.
Jose Mourinho is of the opinion Frank Lampard is the best player in the world at the moment. I don't see how he can improve, because for me he is the best player in the world at the moment" said Mourinho.
Lampard certainly is in form at the moment. Lampard is currently second favourite in the betting to be the top premiership goalscorer with Stan James Bookmakers. Nistelrooy is 5/4 favourite, Henry is 3rd favourite at 13/2.
Of course, it help Lampard's form no end playing for Chelsea - who seem to be head and shoulders above the rest of the English clubs in general. Obviously Mourinho thinks that gulf is partly due to Lampard's form of late.
Mourinho On Lampard >> "I don't know what the people who organise these world awards do at the weekends because only English people recognise what a player he is.
"I would not change Lampard for another player because he does everything.
"His defence is incredible, he can pass over a long distance, he can pass over short distances, he's professional. He can score over long distance, how can he improve.
England Blog Comment >> I think Ronaldinho is giving Lampard a run for his money, but I can see Mourinho's point.
England blog comment >> Hernan Crespo is in the Argentinian squad for the first time in ages. What are the chances of him scoring against us? I will post the odds when they come in, for the Chelsea fans
