I've been suffering back spasms and missed Saturday's match with Iran as well," said the six-foot-two custodian, who was clearly disappointed not to be turning out for his new employers against his old ones.
"We had a spell out in Ibiza training on Astroturf and that isn't really the right surface for a goalkeeper. Then we had just started at our new training ground and I felt it tweak in one of the sandy goalmouths.
"I couldn't move for two days but I've had a lot of treatment and I'm a lot better now," he added. "It's not what you'd call a major injury but it's something I have to keep on top of. Perhaps I could have taken a few tablets and played but my main aim has to be fit for the opening day of the Championship season against Hull City rather than a friendly against Charlton.
"Obviously I'm hugely disappointed as I've got a lot of friends still at Charlton," he said. "I'll be there but just won't be playing. I don't think I've ever missed a pre-season until now.
Get well soon Simon Royce. QPR will be needing you fit and well for the start of the season.
QPR Official - QPR 0 Charlton 3 >> QPR were beaten 3-0 at Loftus Road today via a hat trick from Darren Bent. Aaron Brown, Ugo Ukah and Dominic Shimmin were the new(ish) boys on display. Apparently QPR were second best all over the pitch.
Hopefully next season will be a little more fruitful for the boys.
Ian Holloway wants the same amount of noise and energy from the QPR fans as the Iranian fans showed while cheering on Javad Kazemian and the rest of the under-strengthed Iranian team in the 3-0 defeat at Loftus road.
"Holloway remarked that it took him a quarter-of-an-hour to get used to the noisy Team Melli supporters as British Iranians turned out in force for the first of Iran's three matches in England, more than making up for a disappointing home attendance.
'They made me feel nervous. It took me 10 or 15 minutes to calm down because the noise they made, made me feel like Iran were going to score, Holloway said of the atmosphere at Loftus Road which was not that of a local derby bear pit or a frantic and urgent cup tie. It was simply joyous.
'I want my fans to try and make the noise the Iranian fans were making,' continued the 42-year-old, who played 561 league games during a 19-year career that took him to Bristol Rovers, Wimbledon, Torquay, Brentford and Queens Park Rangers.
Iranian fans - bedecked in their national colours - sang, blew horns and beat drums non-stop in an expression of their sheer delighted at seeing their national team play live"
BBC - QPR swoop for Nigerian defender >> Ugo Ukah, a 21 year old Nigerian defender has signed a 3 year deal to play for QPR after a successful trial period.
Ugo Ukah impressed QPR manager Ian Holloway on the pre season tour in Ibiza and earned himself a deal on the back of it.
The first game I attended was Arsenal v QPR and I was standing by all the QPR fans so I followed the club.
"Many of my friends said England would suit my style. I am a very physical player and look forward to playing in the Championship"
QPR blog comment >>
I think Marc Nygaard will be required to back up Paul Furlong, not an easy job with the form Furlong has been in. Hopefully Nygaard will serve as a permanent replacement for Furlong(37) in the years to come.
iQPR - QPR 3 Iran 0 >> QPR beat Iran 3-0 in the last pre season friendly. For a full match report click the link at the top and read on. I was not at the QPR V Iran match.
Richard Edghill was released by QPR manager Ian Holloway at the end of the season. I had not realised Edghill had gone. Anyway, Ipswich are possibly taking a look at Richard Edghill with a view to a permanent free transfer signing.
QPR REPORT.blogspot.com is a new "QPR Blog" that caught my eye the other evening. I stopped reading through the QPR reports and links to everything QPR related, old and new, early the next morning.
The QPR Annual General Meeting for QPR shareholders was yesterday. After the boring stuff was over with, Ian Holloway answered some questions in a questions and answers session with QPR supporters.
Gino Padula was out of contract at the end of the season, but did not leave with Chris Day, Tony Thorpe and Jamie Cureton, so I thought Gino had signed a new contract with QPR, obviously not.
Gino Padula never played very well atall last season and lost his left back spot to Matthew Rose. About 5 games to go Gino seemed to find his feet in the 1st Division (championship) ~ but has obvously not convinced manager Ian Holloway to fight to keep Gino at the club.
QPR now need a decent free kick taker, as Padula used to hit a few nice few dead balls every now and then.
All in all, I am sad to see Gino Padula leave QPR.
Thanks for the good times Gino. Good luck in helping getting Forest back up the leagues.
