England Can Win The World Cup - Gazza >> Paul Gasciogne aka Gazza aka G8 has told talkSPORT Radio that he believes England can win the 2006 World Cup Finals..
Gazza says that the England team clearly have the quality to lift the 2006 World Cup - but stressed the media and journalists in England need to get behind the England team and not play into the hands of the opposition by with their usual negative commentary.
There will not be many negative comments coming from here at the England Blog, that is for sure. It is about time the English press, who would cheer as loud as the rest of the England fans if England won the 2006 World Cup, got behind the England team instead of pulling the boys apart all of the time. That goes for the FA too, after the silly attempt to sell out the England manager Sven Goran Erikkson last year.

The England U18s drew 0-0 with Norway after a disappointing 0-0 draw at Port Vale
The England under 18s have only played once this season before the friendly V Norway at Vale Park
The FA Website reported that both James Walker and Kyel Reid had chances in a tight first-half in which England had the better possession.
However their best efforts were not good enough to beat the Norway goalkeeper and in the second half a similar pattern emerged.
Southampton winger Nathan Dyer was impressive and he laid on decent chances for Walker and Arsenal's Kerrea Gilbert.
Again though, the little bit of quality in the final third was missing and England had to make to with a goalless draw"

TheFA.com - England bow out >> The England women are out of the womens 2005 Euros after losing 1-0 to the Sweden ladies team at Ewood Park Blackburn.
A 3rd minute goal did the damage. Anna Sjostrom nicked the ball home from a yard after impeding the England ladies goalie Rachel Brown. From there on in the England women pushed forward for the equaliser but the Swedish girls proved too strong as a team. Experience seemed to be the telling factor.
The English ladies had the majority of the posession throughout the match but seemed to get drawn into rushing their attacks by going up the middle of the pitch, which payed into the Swedish women's hands somewhat. Karen Carney and Rachel Yankee did not get on the ball enough out wide and ended up in the centre of the pitch too often for me.
The England ladies will go into the World cup qualifiers safe in the knowledge they can compete with the top ladies sides out there now and with such a young squad, will go onto better things in the future I feel. The England ladies average age was only 23. Experience will come and confidence will not be a problem in the years to come.
Unlucky girls ~ I think you did well and were unlucky to not progress into the semis.
England U'20's won 3-2 on penalties to take 3rd place in the Toulon under 20 tournament in Toulon.
Mexico took the in the 20th minute through a penalty from Luis Landin after Tom Huddleston handled on the line. Late on in the game England got the equaliser, in the 90th minute plus 3 minutes of injury time to be exact via a well taken David Nugent goal. The Preston striker Nugent calmly brought the ball under control and turned inside his marker before slotting a shot past the Mexican goalkeeper.

English Football has come into the spotlight once again in another shakedown recommendation by a suit and tie, this time through Lord Barns who proposed widescale reforms regarding the running of English football. Disciplinary problems were a main concern apparently.
Lord Burns, who is currently compiling a Government backed report into the future structure of the Football Association, called for the setting up of a single semi-autonomous "regulation and compliance unit". (a big club geared shakedown crew I bet)..
Lord Burns wants to see the FA strengthen its grip on English football's standing in the world game especially with UEFA and FIFA and retain control of the new Wembley stadium
"The project has a complex history but there is no widely held view that Wembley should be anything other than a subsidiary of the FA at this stage," said Lord Burns..
England blog comment >> Agreed there are problems with English football. However, stricter regulations and disciplinary measures will take the shape of fines. Thereby allowing by simple virtue of cashflow, the larger teams to misbehave more than the smaller, cash-strapped clubs.
We see the issueing across the board of yellow cards for pretty much nothing more than players celebrating a goal. Simply put, the larger clubs are less bothered by yellow cards than the smaller teams, because the larger sides have bigger squads and are clearly not as adversely affected by key players being suspended.
The stupid rule of "passive offside" ie, not interfeing with play ~ WTF? ~ suits the larger clubs who can adopt a more attacking style due to the quality of their players. The "Champions league" for the select few who can get in brings in vast revenue. 16 possible games of "Champions LEAGUE" football is almost half a premier season, therefore the smaller clubs fall further behind financially and so it goes on.
I could go on all day and night about the larger clubs and how English and Euro football is simply by design set up to favour the larger clubs. However, I won't, because I am bored with the blatantness of it all.
To End >> Lord Burns won't know how his recommendations will be adopted to "suit", so the larger clubs, most likely because he is just a "suit", not a football fan. If he knows his football, he is simply a part of the big club game of getting larger and larger at the expense of the smaller clubs.
England U20s coach Peter Taylor has named his side to face Mexico in the Toulon Tournament Third Play-Off. Peter Taylor has named an attacking minded side, going for a 3-4-3 formation. Tom Huddlestone will sit and protect the back four, allowing Wayne Routledge and James Milner to push forward to join the front 3 of Norwich City striker Ian Henderson, Colchester's Greg Halford and Darren Ambrose who plays for Newcastle.

TheFA.com - Third place the aim >> "England U20s coach Peter Taylor was naturally disappointed after seeing his side lose to France on penalties in the semi-finals of the Toulon Tournament, but he still thinks plenty of positives have come out of the competition.
England will now play Mexico this evening to decide which side will finish third and one thing that has pleased Taylor most has been the way the squad has gelled and stuck together."
England Women V Sweden Women Football Betting Odds England Odds - 11/4 Draw Odds - 9/4 Sweden Odds - 4/5
England Women V Sweden Women kicks off tomorrow live on The BBC (Saturday 11th of June, 2005) at Ewood Park Blackburn. A drawn match will be good enough to take the England women through to the semi finals of the Womens Euro's if Denmark manage a dwaw against the Finland ladies.
I think the England women can go through to the semi finals if they play up to the standard of the previos 2 matches against the Finland and Denmark ladies. The Swedish ladies have not been that impressive and the odds on price of 4/5 for the Swedes to beat England on home soil look a tad small to me.
♠ I take the England ladies for a small wager to beat the Swedish women at decent odds of 11/4 at Ladbrokes - a rather large price for a home team. England are not so far worse than the Swedish girls as the odds suggest in my opinion.
TheFA.com - Late agony for England >> The England ladies went down fighting at Ewood Park today 2-1 against the Denmark girls. I watched the game on BBC and was happy enough until 10 minutes from the end.
A well earned penalty for a foul in the penalty area against left winger Rachel Yankee in the 51st minute led to England's goal, converted by Everton ladies Fara Williams.
Much to my dismay though the Danish girls equalised with 10 to go with a well executed free kick by Pedersen, followed by a heartbreaking Paaske Sorensen winning goal in the 88'th minute put the England girls in a difficult position in the Euro's. The 2-1 defeat left England needing a result against the highly rated Swedish women to progress through to the semi finals..
Not an impossible task and with home advantage back at Ewood Park Blackburn on saturday, but a difficult proposition nonetheless.
Never before have I in 18 months of the life of gamblog have I uttered the words "lump on". I thought the 3/4 odds on offer at Gamebookers was an outstanding betting opportunity.
♥ 2 unanswered goals in the first half for the England girls against the Finland ladies and I was sitting pretty on my wager. However, a nervous, lacklustre second half display from the England girls saw the Finland ladies level the match with a minute to go, after goals from Kalmari (57) and Rantani (89) made the score 2-2. I was spitting tacks into my tea.
♥ Up stepped 17 year old England female starlet Karen Carney with a lively turn and quality through ball to substitute striker Eniloa Aluko - Anuko slipped the ball goalwards but the effort was parried by the Finnish goalie. Carney followed up the rebound and lifted the ball home into the roof of the net from 15 yards with un-nerving precision. A finish no man could have executed any better.
♥ The England ladies namager Hope Powell was obviously relieved at the end of the match, nearly as much as I was I think. Powell said the England girls did well, but clearly did not play to their full potential in a nervy affair, in front of so many thousands of England fans on such a big occasion. Powell said even though the girls came in at the end of the first hald 2-0 up, they never looked commanding. I disagreed somewhat with Powell's critique there, but who cares what I think? I certainly don't, not after that rollercoaster.
♥ I am sure even Misia Gervis - the England ladies sports psychologist from Brunei University, formerly the sports psychologist at the Whitefield school football academy, must have lost her mind for a hot minute when the Finnish ladies equalised. I gather it's all in the mind according to Misia Gervis - well who am I to argue with that sentiment? Just because I lost my mind for a minute, to be saved from insanity and the shame of a losing a "lump on" betting tip, by Karen Carney's excellent winning goal.
♥ ♥ I am glad those bad girls won the match for England, not so for scaring me half to death though. Bad girls indeed. I know they know I had money on them to win, they were just playing the game of winding me up. I am convinced of that.
♥ ♥ ♥ Next up in for our bad girls in the ladies Euro finals is Denmark ladies on June the 8th at Ewood Park, Blackburn. A 6pm kickoff - live on BBC TV

England Blog Betting Comment >> The England ladies at 3/4 is an outstanding betting opportunity. Lump on and cheer the girls on for some hard cash and an England victory. Yes - An outstanding betting opportunity.
A good start for Peter Taylor's under 20 England team in the Toulon tournment. The Tunisian's played well enough, drawing some good saves from Reading young goalie Jamie Young for about 60 minutes.
The first half was goal less, with England u'20's in charge, if not completely and despite having trouble finding their feet, but no goals for their efforts to cheer about.
The second half though proved to be more fruitful, almost from the off. Darren Ambrose scored a header and Wayne Routledge followed up 5 minutes later to give the u'20's some breathing space. Tunisia kept going though, forcing the England goalie to parry a 25 yarder from Qualid Hichri onto the bar.
After a while though, the Tunisians lost their shape and discipline apparently and the game fizzled out without much ado thereafter.
Peter Taylor's Comments
Peter Taylor told The Fa Website >> "It's good to get a win under our belt and overall I was happy with the way the lads performed."
"In the first half we were a little sloppy and didn't play like we know we can. The boys just switched off a little though to be fair the Tunisians looked sharp and I thought they did well."
"However the boys did work hard and stuck together and then in the second half they played much more like a team.
"It was very frustrating watching in the first half because I know how good they are and just what they can do.
"But it is difficult for them as they've had a couple of weeks off and suddenly they have to re-focus and concentrate on the job at hand, which is not easy."
"The second half was much better, the goal obviously gave us a lot of confidence and after we took the lead that set us off."

TheFA.com - Owen does it again >> England beat Columbia 3-2 last night in America after Michael Owen hit a hat-trick. Owen was also the last England player to score a hat-trick - against the Germans, if you recall that famous day.
Peter Crouch made his debut and showed he can play somewhat and is not just a head on a stick. Crouch marked up an assist by setting up Owen for his second goal with some nice footwork and some decent vision. It does seem Crouch has a chance of replacing Emile Heskey as the "big man option" in the England squad for next years 2006 World Cup finals i nGermany, if England qualify that is.
Most impressive was Michael Carrick for me. Sitting in front of the defence is certainly Carrick's proper positon. Nicky Butt had better watch out, because Carrick must surely be hot on the heels of the ex Man Ud, probably soon to be ex Newcastle United ball winning central midfielder Butt.
Columbia are also in the middle of their world cup qualifiers and are not doing so well, sitting in 7th place in their South American qualifying group. Columbia certainly never came to lose, that is for sure. Judging by the amount of pretend yellow card waving at the ref, Columbia certainly never came to take any prisoners.
I thought Zat Knight played well enough in defence, replacing Sol Campbell. Norwich goalkeeper Greene played the second half for his England debut. He played ok for me, but nothing outstanding to be honest. He may have a chance of being the 3rd goalie after Robinson and David James in the 2006 World cup finals, if we get there..
The American tour must be classed as a successful one, after 2 wins on foreign soil against 2 sides, America and Columbia, who did not seem to play the friendlies in a friendly manner whatsoever.
