TheFA.com - England strike it Rich >> The USA fielded their best international team but still succumbed to the mighty England C team last night at soldier field. The Americans had not lost at home for 2 years since Brazil turned them over.
Man Utd youngster Kieron Richardson had a dream debut, scoring a quality free kick from 20+ yards in the 4th minute, followed by a reasonable finish on his weaker foot just before half time, after Joe Cole unselfishly laid Richardson up.
Sven Comments >> Sven was fairly impressed with Richardson, but not overly so. Furthermore Sven was not enamoured by the state of the pitch. Apparently the pitch was too hard and remained so even after the Americans agreed to water the pitch the night before, which they never did. In fact it struck me quite early that the Americans were not treating the international "friendly" as a friendly atall. Sven attributed the state of the soldier field pitch to Sol Campbell's hamstring injury. Possibly the pitch caused debut boy Kieron Richardson to hobble off with a suspected hamstring strain, the same for Ashley Cole. Not good
England Blog Comments >> Carrick played well enough in midfield after a 2 year hiatus from the England squad. Palace striker Andy Johnson also played ok up front next to Alan Smith, who replaced the unlucky 6'7 Peter Crouch, who got injured the day before the game, therefore denying Crouch his international debut. Zat Knight got his first taste of international football when he replaced the injured captain Sol Campbell. Zatiah Knight is quite a lump and made even Campbell look small.
The Americans played ok, but for a team on home turf, playing the match like it was a world cup qualifier, they won't be too happy about being beaten 2-1 by the England C team on their own patch.
Anyway, England take on Columbia on tuesday. With 2 of our most senior players likely to be missing, ie Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole, we will do extremely well to get a result against the flambouyant Columbians.
England Team James, G Johnson, Brown, Campbell, A Cole, J Cole, Jenas, Carrick, Richardson, A Johnson, Smith. Subs: Green, Carson, Young, P Neville, Knight, Defoe, Crouch.
Referee: B Archundia (Mexico) - Attendance: 47,637
TheFA.com - New faces for England >> Kieran Richardson(Man United), Peter Crouch(Southampton) and Andy Johnson(Crystal Palace) will all get their England dubuts and start tomorrow in the international frendly against the Americans at Soldier Field in Chicago
Interestingly enough, Peter Crouch and Andy Johnson are both now 1st division championship strikers now after Palace and Southampton went down. Interesting because if England get a poor result in the USA friendly, the press and the radio talkshows will be abuzz with talk of England manager Sven Goran Eriksson errantly fielding mediocre players, therefore cheapening the England shirt somehow. The fact Crouch and Johnson need a run or two or a few to find out if they are good enough to operate on the international stage effectively, will be lost in the furore.
Anyway, the England team is picked >>

TheFA.com - Under African skies: "England stars Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville and David James are currently heading an FA delegation in Malawi on a two-day goodwill mission to promote AIDS awareness and prevention"
"It is a huge stadium and looks so impressive. When I came here last time it looked nothing like this, but now I have a feeling about how big it will be because you can see it will be really big.
"This is the most famous stadium in the whole world. It has always been like that and now it will be even more attractive and more famous.
"It is a dream for every football coach, every football manager and every footballer to play here and it will be an absolutely fantastic stadium.
"In one year's time The FA Cup Final will be the first game to be played here and I am sure that the tickets will be sold out in one day."
Sven Said >> We never expected David to be with us for the first game and I understand and respect their view that they want him with them until the end of the Spanish season."
Sven added: "I look forward to both David and Michael Owen joining us for the game in New Jersey against Colombia - as was always planned.
Barcelona are rumoured to be hot on the trail Rio Ferdinand and apparently Man Utd may be willing to sell because Rio still has not signed a new contract.
Rio Ferdinand is supposed to be after 150k a week. If Barcelona offer Ferdinand 150k a week wages and 30 million pound to Man Utd, the England centre back will be playing in Spain soon it seems.
I wonder what the Man Utd Rant Blog editor will have to say about Rio Ferdinand possibly being sold off to Barcelona?
Bookies facing court over Becks pics >> SPANISH football giant Real Madrid has launched a fresh attack on a host of British gambling companies, including Ladbrokes and William Hill, in a bid to stop them using images of its club and players to promote online football betting.
The case is being closely watched by all the major European clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. A large number of Spanish clubs have lent their support to the country's richest team. Real has filed lawsuits for a case that will be heard in Paris on 12 May and will also include Betfair and Sportingbet, Betandwin and MrBookmaker as defendants.
David Beckham Off To Conquer America? >> David Beckham was booked last night while playing for his club side Real Madrid in their penultimate game of the season.
That means theat the England Captain Beckham will be suspended for Real, so he will therefore be able to join up with the England squad to help conquer America, earlier than originally planned.
I doubt if Beckham, who has 80 caps for England will mind. Becks is after the alltime England caps record in my opinion and would also like to conquer America for the sake of Brand Beckham
Rumours that David Beckham got booked for Real Madrid on purpose, so he can get to America a bit earlier are slanderous!
Wayne Rooney won the man of the match award for his performance in the Man Utd FA Cup final penalties defeat by Arsenal
I thought Cristiano Ronaldo was man of the match, but Rooney got it somehow. Rooney was playing almost as a right winger. I am not sure why Ferguson does not just play Rooney up front next to Van Nistelrooy and be done with it.
Rio Ferdinand played well for Man Utd and even got the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed. England international cover right back Wes Brown was impressive. A more talented right back that Gary Neville and should look to remove Neville from the England team and the Man Utd team as soon as he can get fit enough to play a few games in a row without getting injured.
Arsenal England international Ashley Cole got forward quite well for Arsenal, who admittedly spent about 70 minutes behind the ball.
Unfortunately, Sol Campbell was left out by Arsene Wenger for Senderos. Maybe Alex Ferguson will take the hint and buy Campbell, to pair Sol up with Rio.
I do not recall any other England Internationals out there today in the FA cup final.

Richardson and Knight get the England call >> Kieran Richardson did well on loan at West Brom and Zat Knight is a decent defender for Fulham. Both have been called up to Sven's England squad for the upcoming tour to the USA. Knight got his chance after Mathew Upson pulled out through injury(hernia). Richardson is in due to Wright Phillips ommision because of a knee problem.
A plasma TV and computer equipment were taken by the 2 thieves who then drove away in two of Lampard's cars parked outside the house in West Brompton, south-west London.
Trackers in the stolen car led the police to 1 of the alledged intruders in Battersea, who has been duly arrested. Aggravated burglary carries a heavy sentence in UK law, so the arrested person is looking at quite a jail term if convicted.
Lampard's people were previously disturbed by the papers printing Franks address and a picture of the house in the press, which is said to have compromised Lampard's security and safety in his own home.

Eriksson believes Joe Cole can make a big impact for England in this month's tour to the United States and has been hugely impressed by the Chelsea player's progress this season.
But Sven admits he has always been an admirer of the 23-year-old Cole, picking Joe consistently over the last three years, even though he didn't always choose to play him."

He pipped fellow England teammates John Terry and Jamie Carragher to become the first home-grown player to win the award since Teddy Sheringham in 2001.

In the new commercial, npower builds the association between its recently developed brand icons and its position as the Official Energy Supplier to Wembley Stadium. The ad, created by advertising agency Isobel opens in a canteen with some builders gathered around a table commentating on a mini football match being played out in front of them by the two brand icons. The brand icons, albeit slowly, move around the table dodging the salt and pepper pots and mugs of tea to shoot and score. The 40 second spot again features a voice over by John Motson, talking about the opportunity to enter a competition onlineto win a pair of seats at Wembley Stadium for the next 10 years.
