Sports reporter Rebekah Wheller takes a trip to Queens Park Rangers to check on the progress of ex-Shot Adam Miller and his new boss Ian Holloway.
TWO months ago the dreams of Aldershot Town midfielder Adam Miller came true as he left the Recreation Ground to join Queens Park Rangers now he has made five starts for the club, and looks set to play an integral part in the team next season.
After watching Miller playing in the reserves on Tuesday afternoon against Millwall, QPR boss Ian Holloway spoke exclusively to the News about his hopes for the player, and why he'll always be looking to sign talent from the Conference.
Holloway said: "I'm more than pleased with Adam, he was always one for the future, with hunger and desire. He's got to work on his off the ball situations but I think he's going to be a talented player.
"We always try to find out what's going on in non-League. Aldershot were doing very well and we heard there was a very good player in our midst. Then they turned up with a first team for the reserve game right on our doorstep.
"It was the third goal that made my mind up for me - not the two that he scored. He was clean through but he slotted the ball back, instead of risking losing the goal, or being selfish. He slotted the perfect ball through for his team-mate - that was what made my mind up."
Miller isn't the only player to have come through the non-League ranks to join Holloway.
He signed Nathan Ellington from Ryman Leaguers Walton and Hersham, when managing Bristol City - and he maintains non-League football is a good hunting ground for players.
"I'll look absolutely everywhere, it doesn't matter where you're from. The level of standard in the Conference does not surprise me, some of my best players ever have come from the Conference, it's all about your desire at the end of the day. There was a whole England team at one time that was made up of players that had come through non-League.
"I feel non-League players have got that bit more about them, they know about the real world, unlike some of these molly-coddled big-time charlies.
"I don't agree with the Academy set-up, you need to go out on loan and play real stuff.
"Look at Jermain Defoe - he went on loan to Bournemouth, scored a load of goals and got straight back in to the West Ham first team, it happens all the time if you're good enough.
"I like to take quality but it's not about where you start, it's about where you end up, that's the most important thing," added Holloway.
Miller also spoke about his delight to be playing for the club he has supported since childhood.
He said: "I've made five starts and have been involved on three or four other occasions, so it's going pretty well. It's everything I've ever wanted to do since I dropped out of League football and to be back in it, and at such a high level with the team I support, is just a dream come true."
After leaving Ipswich in 2001, Miller has moved around the non-League circuit starting out Canvey Island. After two years he moved to Conference outfit Gravesend and Northfleet before settling at Aldershot.
"The four years that I was out of League football, I was a regular and you do almost assume that you'll be starting every week but I didn't ever expect to be a regular here in my first year. That's why the gaffer signed me on for another season so that he can work on me, the bits and pieces that I know aren't so good.
"It's all set out for me to work hard and stamp out a regular place in the team. I'm looking forward to the pre-season, it's all set out here for me to do it with the weight programmes and pre-hab which I think has helped me so much already.
"There's a coach for the forwards, a coach for the midfield and a coach for the defence so you're looking at a specialist for each section of the field," added Miller.
The 22-year-old has settled in well at Loftus Road, after the transfer in November which has gone down in the Shots history books as the largest fee received.
"Everyone here has made me feel so welcome, which helps you settle in a lot easier and get through those six games. I'd love to stay here as long as I can, it's like a homely feeling just being here, and it was when I was young and used to come and watch.
Generoso Rossi - Goalkeeper, (25)
Bari, Sienna, Lecce.
QPR Manager Ian Holloway is equally enthusiastic the signing.
"It's an exciting time," Holloway said.
"He wanted to come here and hopefully this will show what we're all about. We want to move forward and get in the Premiership. He was a player who signed for £2 million a couple of years ago, so we've got a bargain. This fellow is as lively as a cricket and I can't wait to see him play for us."

About Ian Holloway (link drop) Ian Holloway fans like me add Ian Holloway links and pictures, photos etc to their favourites folder. I will add quality Ian Holloway links to pictures and photos etc as I find them. If you have some decent Ian Holloway links, please leave them in the comments for me and other QPR fans, cheers.
Rodney Marsh was sacked by Sky for making a joke. Marsh's joke was in reply to a question from a caller on You're On Sky Sports live football phone-in programme. Some of the other stuff written about Marshie's sacking have been ridiculous.
It is in the press - tele, newspapers, radio, internet, it is all over. Everyone has said their piece. This is the best clip in my opinion. Phillip Cornwall from football 365 wrote with sense, balance and reason and he never liked Rodney Marsh in the first place really.
Feeling Some Sympathy For The Devil Written by Phillip Cornwall
He should have previously lost his job for approving remarks about Stan Collymore's violent predilections towards women or for a joke about Gerard Houllier's heart problems.
Jimmy Hill should have been axed for the incredible ignorance he displayed when defending racist Big Ron.
Instead, Marsh has been axed for a joke about David Beckham.
Marsh's line - probably in an inbox near you if not your own - was that the England captain would never join Newcastle because of the terrible damage the 'Toon Army' had done in Asia.
QPR Blog Comment :: Rodney Marsh is on Sky Sports because he shoots from the lip. Rod made a joke, simple as that. Rodney is due to be chief announcer at a Raise Money For The Asian Tsunami Victims next week I believe. That says it all. The sacking was way too harsh.
"At approximately 4.50pm on Saturday 22nd January a strange phenomenon occurred at Highfield Road, Coventry. This sight, rarely seen at a Queens Park Rangers game in the last few months had everyone in the ground scratching their heads. After consulting the appropriate authorities, I am now able to confirm that it was what is known, as a slice of luck.
With various people returning from injury and suspensions many, myself included, thought Olly would make changes to the side that beat Stoke last weekend. This was not the case though and the same eleven lined up for this one. Royce was in goal behind a back four of Edghill, Shittu, Davies and Padula. Ainsworth, Santos, Gallen and Cook were in midfield with Cureton and Furlong in attack. The bench was about as strong as it gets with Day, Bignot, Rose, Thorpe and Rowlands picking splinters."

QPR 2 Cureton 17. Santos 90

QPR win an away match for the first time since I don't know how long ago. I do know we've lost 8 straight games on the bounce away from home, so all 3 points taken at Coventry is quite a boost.
Coventry will be furious. George Santos was awarded a last minute winner for apparently bundling the ball home. I gather the ball never actually crossed the line. I can't say, I have not seen it.
The Coventry sky blues are now 1 spot off of relegation. They will be hoping new manager Mickey Adams can bring a change of fortune at Highfield Road.
Queens Park Rangers are in 9th spot, 1 win off of the playoff places. If we can keep it going, why not promotion? Why not?
Coventry Team Steele, Carey, Williams, Leacock, Staunton, Morrell, Hughes, Doyle, Wood (Adebola 45), John (Johnson 84), McSheffrey.
Subs Not Used: Shearer, Whing, Jorgensen.
Booked :: McSheffrey, Carey, Leacock.
"It is a laughable offer, which underestimates the true value of our shares.
"They say they want to put money into the club because they want to bring in players and push for promotion.
"But, who pays for the wages of these players? What if we don't get promotion?", he told the London Evening Standard.
QPR Blog Comment :: I can't comment on QPR Boardroom Matters because I know little of what really goes on behind the Loftus Road scenes.. We are doing excellently in the league, may that continue. The QPR Shareholders will hopefully one day make a mint, if and when we return to the premier league.
Every football fan should support clubs in crisis, even Chelsea fans. You just never know what may happen next whre football and finances are concerned. Furthermore if small clubs close, the big clubs will end up with no one to play against if you take the arguement to the extreme.
QPR take on Coventry at Highfield Road on saturday. This time round Ian Holloway has virtually a full squad to choose from. Holloway is looking for consistency after beating Stoke and cannot complain about being down to the bare bones of the squad. The manager is right. There are no excuses, consistency is necissary. We have flew and slumped already this season and there's still 3 months to go..
Dan Shittu is currently suffering with a viral infection and may be doubtful for Saturday's trip to Coventry.
The big central defender has not trained for a couple of days and the Rangers medical team are monitoring his progress before making a decision on his availability tomorrow afternoon.
Matthew Rose apparently has a stiff back and can only make the bench for an emergency.
Martin Rowlands is "un-suspended". Bircham Thorpe and Marcus Bignot are fit now. Boro loan defender Andrew Davies is fit.
Furlong is back.
Mcleod and Cook vye for the left midfield berth.
Padula and Edghill are fighting for the left back spot.
Apart from Dan Shittu, QPR and Holloway has players coming out of the earholes all of a sudden.
QPR Blog Comment :: Let's hope we can turn over 20th placed Coventry at Highfield Road on saturday.
Update :: Mickey Adams has taken ove ras Coventry manager but will noyt be picking tomorrows team.

QPR Net Coventry V QPR Preview
Marcus Bignot turned out for The QPR Reserve Side yesterday afternoon against Millwall and gladly came through unscathed. Bignot apparently played well enough and seems to have shaken the virus that has laid him low for aboout a fortnight.
I visited the club doctor on Monday with Marc Bircham - who is also ill - for some blood tests. Birch has a phobia about needles, even though he has a big tattoo on his shoulder, and the nurses said he should have been in the children's ward.
I laughed my head off, before it was my turn, and - guess what? - I found I have a phobia as well! I didn't pass out, but I got the sweats, which was a bit embarrassing.
Chris Day, Marcus Bignot, Mr Marcus Bean, Rowlands, Miller, Thorpe and Kevin McLeod all started, Aaron Brown was on the bench back from his broken leg.
I never went to the game. I gather Waddock was happy enough with the performance and said Aaron Brown "looked sharp".
QPR Net's Simon Skinner went to the match and reports.
Reserves shot to pieces.
An experienced reserve side drew 1-1 against their Millwall counterparts at Loftus Road this afternoon. It was a game that Rangers seemed destined to win only to see a late defensive lapse cost them dear.
There was plenty of first team experience on show with Day, Bignot, Bean, Rowlands, Miller, Thorpe and McLeod all making the starting XI. Youngsters Lee Craig, Pay Kanyuka, Ryan Johnson and Shabazz Baidoo completed the team. There was a place on the bench for former Bristol City player Aaron Brown who has been with Rangers for what seems an eternity already.

With the involvement of Carlos Dunga Brazil's 1994 World Cup winning captain, I was hoping to see some Brazilian or indeed quality and ambitious South American players down at Loftus Road sooner rather than later.
QPR Blog Comment :: I recognise it's a maybe from Holloway, not a promise to the QPR fans. That said, it sounds good.
I cannot see why with Dunga's South American connections and the respect he holds in Brazil for obvious reasons, why a couple of decent South Americans ~ Brazilian youngsters won't come down the Rangers.
Middlesbrough may recall impressive young centre back Andrew Davies from his month loan spell.
With a possible 3 Boro Centre Backs Out Ugo Ehiogu, Chris Riggott and Michael Reiziger, Boro boss may recall Davies from the loan deal.
With Ehiogu out for "some time", it is very unlikely McClaren would sanction a loan extension, if indeed he does'nt recall Davies before the month is up.
QPR manager Ian Holloway wants to bolster the spine of his team and his targets include a centre-half, a central midfielder and a striker.
Three of the players ply their trade in the Premiership and are coming to the end of their contracts. The other plays abroad.
QPR chairman Bill Power said
We are looking at four players, apart from those we have brought in on loan. We are not going to be spending a fortune but if necessary we are willing to put our hands in our pockets. However, anyone who comes in has to be an automatic first-team pick."
QPR Blog Comment :: 4 players down the spine that must start would have to mean a new goalie to replace Chris Day, a centre back to partner Danny Shittu - a central midfielder to partner Marc Bircham and a striker to partner Paul Furlong.
Which amounts to pretty much a whole new look side. Should be interesting if it happens. I wonder what players Holloway aims to sign?
"I will call it a day at the end of the season. I said that last season, but I mean it this time," Ferdinand told BBC Sport after his debut against Swansea
I cannot understand why Sir Les never came home? It would have been a great boost for Ranger With a good run QPR can reach the playoffs. We are 5 points off 6th spot.
Ian Holloway said something recently I don't understand seeing how well we are doing.
Sir Les can't have gone to Reading for the money.. I figure he was on more to sit on the Bolton bench. Sir Les says he will retire in 6 months. I just don't get it.
If Sir Les came home and did'nt perform too well because of age, the QPR fans would have never turned against him. The Ranger will never forget the dominant Sir Les running pacey defenders ragged.
QPR Blog Comment :: I think Sir Les still should come home to retire. The transfer window is still open. I doubt Steve Coppell would stand in his way.
Why Sir Les Chose To Retire at Reading is just beyond me. Leslie Ferdinand will always be Sir Les at Loftus Road, I am just a bit confused about why he never came home to retire.
Holloway Wants "Twistabilty" - More Competition For Places In The Team
Holloway said after Lee Cook got the winner in the Stoke game.
"Lee Cook will be the first to admit to himself that he wants to do better.
Between him and Kevin McLeod, I've got good twistability. Between them, there's some good competition that I could only wish for all over the park.
It's all about competition and those two have got it"
QPR blog comment :: It is nice to see Lee Cook play well, much is expected of him down the Ranger. The same can be said of McCleod, so hopefully they can keep pushing each other for a place in the team down the left. Holloway will be happy and can say twistability a bit more. I think the twistability is a take on Dowie's bouncebackability.
Holloway said "He has had some blood tests. A couple of the players went to see him on Friday before the win over Stoke and he was absolutely burning up."
Hopefully the specialist can work out what the virus that has gripped Bircham, I like him in midfield when he is playing well for us.
I think ex QPR youth Nigel Quashie had glandular fever once and was out for 3 months.
Basically you feel like shit for ages and just have to hope it goes away. Most glandular fever sufferers shake the thing in a month, a minority take a lot longer.
Hopefully Bircham will shake the fever off sooner rather than later. For his sake and QPR's.
Friday night football turned out to be lucky for Rangers this time around. Mostly when QPR play on tele, we get turned over.
This time QPR beat Stoke 1-0 in front of the cameras in a pretty tense, if not better described as dire football match.
Stoke played one up front in the form of Ade Akinbiyi and preceded to boot the ball up field over and over. Gladly Danny Shittu likes that kind of thing. I remember 3rd division Swansea doing that to us in the cup a couple of years back and we got beat 4-0 in front of the cameras.
Simon Royce played well on loan for the secong time round, replacing the unlucky Chris Daisy Day. Another loan signing Andrew Davies from Middlesbrough was steady for the first half, but came off at half time to be replaced by Matthew Rose. Davies must have been injured as he was playing well and certainly never earned the dreaded hook.
Left Winger Lee Cook got the winner on 18 minutes, Cookie played well, very well. QPR's width and willingnes to use the ball better than to lump it, won us the day with Wild Thing Ainsworth and Lee Cook bombing up and down out on the wings. Stoke certainly huffed an puffed, but were unable to break QPR down to level the scores even though Stoke got the ball in the net on 84 minutes.
"When the linesman put his flag up, I could have given him a kiss.
It did look offside - but perhaps that decision will be the thing that turns our luck around.
We have not been getting the rub of the green recently."
Gamblog Comment :: A very welcome and hard fought 1-0 win against Stoke which keeps QPR looking up the table at the playoff spots, rather than down the table at the relegation battle. Big Win.
In fact, Yeading worked very well for the first 20 minutes and could have scored a couple of times against the Geordie boys In the end, the class of the Premier league players showed, especially in the fitness levels. The Yeading players definately tired, as was expected.
All in all the Reading chairman and board will be delighted with the £300k bumper payday. I guess that money will secure Yeading's accounts for the next decade.
Oh, Goalkeeper Delroy Preddie won himself a champagne fueled trip to this years champions league final from the News of the World for keeping a clean sheet in the first half. Preddie, formerly of Northampton Town would have won himself a car if he had kept a clean sheet for the full 90 minutes.
Well done Delroy Preddie and good luck to the Ding from Gam blog.

Furlong Did Nothing Wrong Says Brighton's Adam Hinshelwood
Seagulls defender Adam Hinshelwood said "Furlong and I just collided. When I looked up and saw the red card I thought it was a bit harsh. I was'nt caught in the face, but in the knee.Furlong did nothing wrong
Paul Furlong was sent off for violent conduct by match referee Andy D'urso. QPR have appealed the decision and expect a favourable result sooner rather than later.
Furlong will be banned for 4 games if the red card is not rescinded by the Football Association Obviously D'urso stands by the decision otherwise I guess we'd have heard something to the opposite effect already.
QPR have offered a revised bid for Bristol Rovers defender Matt Hill. Rovers want the 100k that would activate a clause it Matt Hill's contract and they seem to only want it in 1 payment. I can't blame them. I gather the contract entitles Matt Hill to leave for 100k if a club from a higher league wants to sign him.
QPR originally offered 50k now and the rest in installments. Bristol Rovers unsurprisingly said no.
Preston are also chasing Matt Hill's signature apparently. Holloway will not be happy about that as he is reported to be a keen admirer of the pacey left footed young defender. (23)
Matt Hill is quite smal at 5'6 for a defender, but plays very well in the centre of defence. I believe Hill is more impressive at left back though and is definately more naturally suited to playing at full back due to his lack of height.
Matt Hill is an energetic, tough tackling defender with a bit of pace about him and is comfortable on the ball. Hill can pass it too, which helps when playing football I think.
QPR got beat 1-0 at the Walkers Stadium and I don't know how. I hear the Leicester fans barely cheered their team off the pitch after the game, despite the 1-0 win. They know Leicester need to play better than that to stay up. Their luck can't hold out for them forever like it did today.
Conversely QPR need to keep playing just like that and we might creep into playoff challenging position in the next few weeks.
Holloway has shuffled the pack alot over the busy Christmas period and we have been fairly unlucky. I hope we have earnt our own luck for later in the season with comparitavely fresh legs in comparison to other sides.
Martin Rowlands had 2 goals disallowed, the ref twice denying QPR the deserved equaliser to level up David Connolly's 8th minute penalty. Danny Shittu was judged to have handled in the box. It proved decisive.
Beware the Fallen Ranger!

Sir Les Returns to QPR is what I hope to be writing here in the next few days....
Never, it can't be can it?
Well, Les Ferdinand has definately left Bolton after evoking a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for nothing in January. BBC - Ferdinand ends stint with Bolton
When Sir Les left us we went straight down and kept on falling. We are now in a position where it is possible with a decent run we could get back into the Premiership next season.
For QPR to get promoted this season would be a Fairy Tale. For that Fairy Tale to happen there is only 1 gettable player who could possibly evoke the Footballing Angels to fly by Loftus Road for once.
That man is surely Sir Les. To be called Sir Les by the QPR fans after he left us says it all. Leslie Ferdinand is destined to return to the Rangers.
Sir Les has been resting all season, that is why he left Bolton probably.. He will devour the first division. If Sir Les does'nt get snapped up by the very shrewd Harry Redknapp at Southampton, I do believe Sir Les will return to QPR and act as the talisman for our return to the top league.
If Sir Les returns to QPR, it won't be for the money either. It will be a joy, for me anyway, to see Sr Les back at the loft.
QPR 0 Brighton 0 is funnily enough not a bad result considering it broke a 5 match losing spell for QPR stretching back to when Ian Holloway returned from illness. Holloway is Clearly Relieved
I am too relieved Brighton midfeilder Charlie Oatway never got the headed winner with nearly no time to go at the end of the match. Charlie Oatway is born and bred in Ranger country and as is common knowledge, Charlie has a bunch of middle names all named after the old 1973 QPR side.
Anyway, QPR deserved to win overall in my opinion.
I never went to the game heheh.
I gather Paul Furlong was sent off after tangling with Brighton Hinshelwood but insists he was elbowed twice by Hinshelwood before he fell all over him. Furlong will be banned for 4 matches for the straight red, so Holloway will be definately appealing if Furlong is proven right. Furlong will be fined if not for sure.
