John Terry V Sol Campbell

John Terry V Sol Campbell - Who Should Start Next To Rio?

John Terry has been outstanding for Chelsea this season.

Sol Campbell has not played so well for Arsenal, but has always been outstanding when playing for England.

Callers to talk SPORT Radio seem to be most agreeable to John Terry partnering Rio Ferdinand in central defence against the Dutch rather than Sol Campbell.

I believe it is possible to play all 3 in a 5-3-2 formation if you want. Would solve the left midfield panic and Rio could move forward a bit more and show us what he can really do.

Proposed UEFA Rule Change

From the start of the 2007 season, it is proposed that any club qualifying for a European competition must have no more than 25 players in their first-team squad. Four of those players, however, must be home-grown, two of them having been trained between the ages of 15 and 21 by the club's own youth training programme, while two others could be developed by other clubs, provided these clubs are part of the same national association as the buying club.

Jean Carlos Chera - Football Wonderkid

Jean Carlos Chera Video - Brazilian Wonderkid - Football Prodigy

England fans may weep. Man Utd and Porto are on high alert for a 9 year old after seeing The Jean Carlos Video

I just watched the video of Brazilian wonderkid and child football prodigy Jean Carlos Chera (9). Jean Carlos has tremendous skill and movement for one so young. I have seen a few ultra skillful youngsters. None have the understanding and control of the flighted ball like this Brazilian wonderkid. Keep up to date with Jean Carlos Chera at the newly opened Jean Carlos Chera Blog

The Soccer Blog originally blogged the child prodigy report by asking Has the world gone mad and then followed up with another report and a video link of Jean Carlos Chera quickly followed by new football blogger The Football Commentator who obviously agrees that Jean Carlos Chera is truly a child prodigy

Sven Backs David Beckham For 2006

Sven Backs David Beckham For 2006 World Cup

Sven Goran Eriksson has insisted he Will Be Picking David Beckham to play for England for the 2006 World Cup. Sven Backs Becks to lead what amounts to the England youngsters in comparison to Beckhams years. Beckham is 29 now.

The scary thing is I remember Beck's Man Utd debut, so I must be getting old.

Shaun Wright Phillips is pushing Becks hard for the right wing position on merit. What Wright Phillips does'nt have though is the David Beckham experience level.

Sven said ::
England Blog Comment :: If David Beckham is fully fit, he should play at right midfield or central midfield if need be. In the last world cup and european championship finals, Beckham played while not fully fit. I hope Sven Goran Eriksson will rest Becks and play Wright Phillips, if David Beckham is not fully fit in the future.

David Beckham Voted Worst England Player of 2004

David Beckham - Worst England Player of 2004?

talkSPORT Radio presenters Adrian Durham and ex West Ham defensive stalwart Alvin Martin ran a live poll on the radio asking for peoples opinion on who was the worst England player of 2004.

talkSPORT Worst England Player of 2004 Result

David beckham 35%
Phil Neville 15%
David James 15%
Kieron Dyer 7%
Emile Heskey 6%
Paul Scholes 5%
John Terry 5%
Gary Neville 3%
Others Combined 9%

35% - David Beckham was voted the worst England player of 2004 by a staggering 100% clear margin. Very Very harsh in my opinion. The problem is David Beckham is so high profile, is the England captain and seems to get picked by Sven Goran Eriksson whether Beck's is fit or not, in form or not.

15% - Phil Neville always gets lambasted. The player is a right back who fills in out of position and does well at a high level. Every time though he gets punished for the 1 important error.

15% - David James deservedly got some votes. Paul Scholes got a few votes because he honestly never played well. How John Terry got any votes is beyond me.

7% - Kieron Dyer has hardly played for England, but is very unpopular at the moment amongst the footballing public.

All in all David Beckham won the worst England player award. Win may not be the best word, but win the most worst player votes is exactly what he did.

Comments? Who was your worst England player of 2005?

Beckham Centre Wright Phillips Left Midfield

Beckham Centre Midfield - Wright Phillips Left?

I can't work it out. Seems to me Bckham plays while only 8 tenths fit anyway. Wright Phillips plays on the right of the pitch. Playing him in te centre makes little sense to me.

Either way, our next match is against the Dutch in a friendly. If Sven is ever going to play Wright Phillips left wing, it will have probably be then.

Benin Junior Goalie Murdered

Benin Junior Goalie Murdered

Condolances to the family of the Benin player 'Campos' Yessouffo Semiou from the England Blog.

Benin's junior 'keeper Yessouffo 'Campos' Semiou was stabbed dead after his team's embarrassing 3-0 defeat to local rivals Nigeria in the opening match of the African Youth Championship, officials said.

'The goalkeeper died ... this morning in the hospital in Cotonou. He died from injuries he sustained during the attack by an unidentified fan,' said Suleiman Habuba, spokesman for the Confederation of African Football

The 19-year-old goalkeeper was stabbed late Sunday in Cotonou and taken to hospital where he died from his injuries, Beninese medical sources confirmed.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter sent his condolences.

'It was with utter horror and sadness that I learned of the death of Yessouffo Semiou, better known as 'Campos', the young goalkeeper from your national youth team, in circumstances which, if the latest reports are true, beggar belief,' he said in a statement.

In a telephone interview Habuba told AFP that CAF president Isa Hayatu was shocked and disturbed by the incident and condemned violence in sport.

Some of Semiou's teammates from the 'Squirrels' national squad told AFP that he had left the team hotel, the Eldorado at around nine'o'clock on Sunday night and that he had not been seen since.

Semiou who played for the northern league team Les Buffles was a a respected young player and considered a rival for Chitou Rachad to hold the Number One jersey in the Squirrels' full international side."

England v Holland Friendly 2005

England v Holland International Friendly 2005

International Friendly :: England V Holland
Match Venue :: Villa Park (aston villa)
Kick Off :: 7.45pm (gmt) Wednesday, February 9 , 2005
Ticket Info :: 42'000 Sold Out

England Manager Sven Goran Eriksson ir reportedly looking forward eagerly to this friendly fixture V the Dutch. The first International fixture of 2005.

As far as freindly matches go this is a good one as it is at home and against a strong nation. Holland are a strong footballing nation for sure.

After the Spain debacle I figure Sven is looking for a good performance from the England players. The Holland side can play you off the park if you take it too easy, so I doubt there will be much in the way of friendly on show come february the 9th at Villa Park.

The Holland friendly comes only a fortnight before the World Cup qualifier against the Irish, so I doubt there will be much in the way of team experimentation going on either.

The Official FA England v Holland Match Centre will make for a good source of up to date information regarding this England team friendly fixture against the Orange Boys from Holland.

Great English Football League Sites and Information

English Football Sites - Real Information.

English Football Amatuer Leagues (Tony Kempster)
Tony Kempster's English Football Site lists more information about the English football non league divisions than I could ever wade through. Seriously, I don't know how Tony Kempster can keep up with so many football fixtures from the non pro leagues. For Real English Non League Information - Go there sometime.

England FC.com (Sharon, Pete Young, Michael Goss)
England FC.com is a website dedicated to the England football team, pretty much like the Gamblog England Blog. The difference is there is quality content over at England FC.com. The England Team History and Trivia page is just so full of information, I wish I had compiled and edited it myself. The reason I never, is because I can't, simple as that. James Beattie Unhappy With Sven

James Beattie Unhappy With Sven Treatment

5 times England striker James Beattie formerly of Southampton, now at Everton has reportedly been critical of his treatment by England coach Sven

Gamblog comment :: James Beattie has probably not had a fair crack of the whip under Sven Goran Eriksson, but I doubt going public like this is advisable.

If I were an England Team player and never got picked, I would not need to be told anything. All I would need to see is i'm not in. I reckon the rest is easily guessable.

Gazza - AIDS?

Gazza Scared He Has Aids?

The headline read Aids fear of Gazza and is most likely an attempt by the Sunday Mirror to gazzump an exclusve interview with Gazza from the News of the World where he revealed he owed his life to David Seaman when he was having breathing diffulties.

Anyway, I hope it is just the mirror making up stories with such dramatic headlines as Gazza fears he has AIDS rather than it be the truth.

Believing the News Of The World ain't advisable either really. I would have linked to the interview on the News Of The World website, but they move the pages around all the time over there. You have to search for the Gazza interview yourself i'm afraid.

Gazza ill

Gazza is "Gravely" ill

Gazza is "gravely ill" in hospital with pneumonia and a possible collapsed lung. Not sure what "gravely ill" means, so forgive me. Gazza is 37, not 73 so one would hope pneumonia would not be fatal in his case. Gazza can't die of pneumonia right? As I say, I hope not.

Paul Gascoigne aka Gazza aka G8 collapsed at home on saturday night apparently. Gazza was taken to the Princess Grace Hospital in London according to his agent, who I think is called Alex Armytage.

Gazza played 57 times for England scoring 10 goals over a career spanning 20 years where he played a total of 466 games scoring 110 goals and a myriad of assists.

Get well soon Gazza!

Wayne Rooney Banned For Three Matches For A Slap

Wayne Rooney Is Banned For 3 Matches

Wayne Rooney has been banned for 3 matches after his Bitch Slap on Ben Haim which I suppose is fair emough as you can't be raising your hand with squealers and feigners like Ben Haim around.

Rooney pleaded guilty to "Violent Conduct" which is also understandable seeing that the FA is not a place to be seeking a helping hand for anything, unless you actually want a 3 Match Ban

The current mentality from the FA and the Media is one of "Reel Rooney In" to help him to curb his temper. I don't buy that.

In time Wayne Rooney will learn to stay aggressive on the pitch and not get so wound up by idiots like Ben Haim breathing all in his face one minute, then diving to the floor the next when he gets a slap. Banning Rooney won't solve out anything. Ben Haim deserved a slap and would have got one from any unimpressed 18 year old with a bit of a temper.

Maybe Bolton FC manager Sam Allardyce sent Ben Haim out there to be a prick? Allardyce is certainly defending him hard enough. I think Ben Haim is a wind up merchant and it never helped Bolton anyhow.
