U21's - England 1Bent 55
The England U21's have bowed out of the
UEFA Euro U21 Championships with a 2-1 defeat in Nancy tonight.
The under 21's started strongly. Darren Bent hit the post on 9 minutes and 4 minutes later Bent forced a good save from the French u21 keeper Jeremy Gavanon. The French got into the game and could have taken the lead through Julien Faubert's shot from the edge of the box on 17.
The French and English youngsters traded blows back and forth until the half time whistle. After the break the goals came.
10 minutes after the restart, Darren Bent(55) headed home Ryan Taylor's cross, but the
lead only lasted only 4 minutes as the French struck back quickly via the impressive French midfielder Franck Ribery(59).
To be honest
we should have won the match and tie with a late away goal from Dean Ashton, but the Norwich striker headed a decent chance just wide. Just as the tie looked destined for extra time, Kieron Richardson fouled Diarra in the penalty area.
Briand squeezed the penalty past keeper Scott Carson and we were out 2-1.
Grim.

Peter Taylor will not be happy. England were very unlucky to not go through to the Euro finals next year. There are a few managers who will be happy enough to see there youngster resting up at home, rather than playing in the Euro's.
