Peter Taylor On U21's Chances Against FranceThe under 21's take on France in Nancy tonight. Taylor spoke to the FA website about the match and how he wants the U21 players top be inspired by the England 1st team's performance and 3-2 win against the Argentinians.
U21 Manager Peter Taylor >>
"We saw a video of the Argentina game and everyone was delighted. It meant a lot to everyone and everyone's feeling much better about themselves. When England seniors win a game like that...the young players here are really up for it.
Sven is definitely coming to the game on Tuesday and that is brilliant. The players will enjoy him being here. We talk quite a lot about players. Sven takes a big interest. He asks me about certain players and I will tell him about certain players who impress me.
Players will be fighting hard for one of those positions in the squad. Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney will take some shifting but you need an alternative from the bench and that's what they'll be looking for.
Not only will it be a great education for the players but those born in 1983 will be too old to carry on, so they can extend their Under-21 careers and play in the finals. I feel we can play a lot better that we did on Friday. I have no doubt if we are positive and not make silly mistakes we can do it. The players are very confident.
This is a dangerous score for both teams. France know we are capable of scoring and they will be nervous of us doing that. It will be a close match but we won't be doing anything silly too early. If it's 0-0 on 80 minutes then it will be a kitchen sink job."
England Blog Comment >> The u21's do have quite a few injuries. I have faith and hope, but I know the French will be difficult to get past. Maybe we should have sent Rooney out to France, as he still qulaifies easily for the unders 21's.
Sir Alex Ferguson would not have been amused, but who cares about that?
