Ex jockey Gary Carter has been found guilty by the Jockey Club of a £80,000 betting scam and has been booted out of horseracing. Carter has been warned off for a 5 year period.
Carter furnished big time gambler Chris Coleman(53) information about horses he was due to ride in eight races. The high-rolling punter Coleman then used internet gambling site Betfair to back them to lose netting 80k.

The Jockey Club's disciplinary panel yesterday blasted Carter for failing to ride his mounts to win.
An investigation was launched by the Club's security department after suspicions were raised over betting patterns on the races, in August and September 2003.
The panel said: "In each of these races Gary Carter rode a reasonably well fancied horse that was beaten."
"Each of his mounts was heavily backed to lose through accounts at Betfair."
On the Betfair betting exchange site, punters bet against each other on whether or not a horse will win.
Coleman took wagers to win from people on horses that he was confident would lose in the eight races.
His syndicate were so sure of their success they were prepared to stake almost £500,000 to cover bets.
They finally won more than £80,000.
Coleman Is Already Barred From Horseracing Anyway >>
Christopher Coleman is already banned from racecourses, other licensed premises and licensed persons are banned from associating with him with regards to horseracing.
On 22nd January 2003, the Disciplianry Panel of the Jockey Club ordered Christopher Coleman to be excluded from all premises owned, licensed or controlled by the Stewards of the Jockey Club with immediate effect for an indefinite period after they found that Mr Coleman had aided and abetted breaches of the Rules of Racing in that he had >
♠ rewarded Barrie Wright out of the proceeds of a successful bet based on a tip from him in about 1987, this being the first such tip being provided by Mr Wright.
♠ solicited and received in subsequent years, up to 1998, "quite a lot" of information in the forms of tips from Mr Wright.
♠ on frequent occasions passed on part of his winnings to Mr Wright in cash or in kind.
♠ rewarded other unidentified jockeys for information by benefits in kind.
