Sportingbet SuedSportingbet Fails To Inform Investors Of Pening Lawsuit
Online gaming group Sportingbet could be in hot water after keeping a potentially-damaging and costly American lawsuit from its investors for more than three months.
The British firm, which yesterday pulled out of bid talks with poker firm Empire Online, has been sitting on incendiary court documents since 9 June.
They were filed by Houston-based Rotoplay, which claims Sportingbet copied its baseball and football lottery games.
Under Listing Authority rules, a company must inform the market if it believes a piece of litigation to be price-sensitive.
Sportingbet still has not told its shareholders about the legal threat. Court papers seen by the Mail reveal the two firms discussed a licensing deal, but talks ended in May 2002. The 'copied' games allegedly appeared on Sportingbet's sites in late 2002.
Rotoplay chief executive Korey Gardner said: 'As far as we are concerned this is at least a multi-million dollar claim.' Sportingbet declined to comment.
Gamblog Comment >> This is a publicly traded online gambling giant. Soon Sportingbet will give the anti gambling brigade enough ammunition to bar online gambling single handedly.
Sportingbet.com > What a sham, what a shambles, what a shame.
