Nevada Law Approves Wireless Gambling
Two days ago the Nevada Senate approved the State Assembly Bill 471, which provides provisions for legalized wireless gambling in public areas of Nevada Casinos. The bill was signed into law today by Governor Kenny C. Guinn, opening the door for WiFi casino technology.
Cell phone gaming and other wireless nodes are not expected to be seen on the gaming floors immediately. Having been signed into law, the bill will now be refined by the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) to establish procedures and controls over the new form of gambling. The NGC is responsible for licensing, regulating and enforcing all games of chance within the State of Nevada.
The current front-runner for wireless gaming solutions to be licensed by the NGC is the WiFi Casino developed by Louisiana based Diamond I (Diamond iTech). Diamond I has consulted with legislators on AB471, and is making recommendations for the NGC to consider when writing security procedures to monitor wireless games.
"This is an extremely exciting development and we are proud to have been a part of the legislative process," said David Loflin, president of Diamond I.
Among plans submitted by Diamond I is a proposal for casinos to issue hand-held gaming units, which the casino can issue to patrons and hotel guests. These units will be pre-loaded with Diamond I's WiFi Casino product, but will only operate in real play mode if the user is in an authorized area of the casino.
The PDA-like units will also be programmed to only work for a specific user, as a measure to prevent underage gambling or attempted theft of account balances. The method of identifying the authorized user is based on proprietary biometric technologies developed by Diamond I, which reads the user's thumb print during the log in process to verify that the person attempting to play is the same person authorized to use that specific hand held unit.
