TheFA.com - England bow out >> The England women are out of the womens 2005 Euros after losing 1-0 to the Sweden ladies team at Ewood Park Blackburn.
A 3rd minute goal did the damage. Anna Sjostrom nicked the ball home from a yard after impeding the England ladies goalie Rachel Brown. From there on in the England women pushed forward for the equaliser but the Swedish girls proved too strong as a team. Experience seemed to be the telling factor.
The English ladies had the majority of the posession throughout the match but seemed to get drawn into rushing their attacks by going up the middle of the pitch, which payed into the Swedish women's hands somewhat. Karen Carney and Rachel Yankee did not get on the ball enough out wide and ended up in the centre of the pitch too often for me.
The England ladies will go into the World cup qualifiers safe in the knowledge they can compete with the top ladies sides out there now and with such a young squad, will go onto better things in the future I feel. The England ladies average age was only 23. Experience will come and confidence will not be a problem in the years to come.
Unlucky girls ~ I think you did well and were unlucky to not progress into the semis.

Me and my other half went to Ewood Park to watch this game. Poor. Poor. Poor. Another English team that will never win anything.
Sweden didn't play particularly well, but we were much worse. I have to say though, the atmosphere was excellent.
