TheFA.com - Owen does it again >> England beat Columbia 3-2 last night in America after Michael Owen hit a hat-trick. Owen was also the last England player to score a hat-trick - against the Germans, if you recall that famous day.
Peter Crouch made his debut and showed he can play somewhat and is not just a head on a stick. Crouch marked up an assist by setting up Owen for his second goal with some nice footwork and some decent vision. It does seem Crouch has a chance of replacing Emile Heskey as the "big man option" in the England squad for next years 2006 World Cup finals i nGermany, if England qualify that is.
Most impressive was Michael Carrick for me. Sitting in front of the defence is certainly Carrick's proper positon. Nicky Butt had better watch out, because Carrick must surely be hot on the heels of the ex Man Ud, probably soon to be ex Newcastle United ball winning central midfielder Butt.
Columbia are also in the middle of their world cup qualifiers and are not doing so well, sitting in 7th place in their South American qualifying group. Columbia certainly never came to lose, that is for sure. Judging by the amount of pretend yellow card waving at the ref, Columbia certainly never came to take any prisoners.
I thought Zat Knight played well enough in defence, replacing Sol Campbell. Norwich goalkeeper Greene played the second half for his England debut. He played ok for me, but nothing outstanding to be honest. He may have a chance of being the 3rd goalie after Robinson and David James in the 2006 World cup finals, if we get there..
The American tour must be classed as a successful one, after 2 wins on foreign soil against 2 sides, America and Columbia, who did not seem to play the friendlies in a friendly manner whatsoever.
