TheFA.com - England strike it Rich >> The USA fielded their best international team but still succumbed to the mighty England C team last night at soldier field. The Americans had not lost at home for 2 years since Brazil turned them over.

Man Utd youngster Kieron Richardson had a dream debut, scoring a quality free kick from 20+ yards in the 4th minute, followed by a reasonable finish on his weaker foot just before half time, after Joe Cole unselfishly laid Richardson up.

Sven Comments >> Sven was fairly impressed with Richardson, but not overly so. Furthermore Sven was not enamoured by the state of the pitch. Apparently the pitch was too hard and remained so even after the Americans agreed to water the pitch the night before, which they never did. In fact it struck me quite early that the Americans were not treating the international "friendly" as a friendly atall. Sven attributed the state of the soldier field pitch to Sol Campbell's hamstring injury. Possibly the pitch caused debut boy Kieron Richardson to hobble off with a suspected hamstring strain, the same for Ashley Cole. Not good

England Blog Comments >> Carrick played well enough in midfield after a 2 year hiatus from the England squad. Palace striker Andy Johnson also played ok up front next to Alan Smith, who replaced the unlucky 6'7 Peter Crouch, who got injured the day before the game, therefore denying Crouch his international debut. Zat Knight got his first taste of international football when he replaced the injured captain Sol Campbell. Zatiah Knight is quite a lump and made even Campbell look small.

The Americans played ok, but for a team on home turf, playing the match like it was a world cup qualifier, they won't be too happy about being beaten 2-1 by the England C team on their own patch.

Anyway, England take on Columbia on tuesday. With 2 of our most senior players likely to be missing, ie Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole, we will do extremely well to get a result against the flambouyant Columbians.Come On England!
