QPR Beat Burnley 3-0

QPR played Burnley and smacked them hard at Loftus road today.

QPR - 3
Gallen (penalty) 3
Santos 5
Furlong 23
Burnley - 0

Big Paul Furlong was back up front next to Gallen this afternoon and Thorpe took young Donnelly's spot on the bench. Marcus Bean also dropped to the bench, but apart from that Ian Holloway named an unchanged side from the one that lost to Wolves 2-1 midweek.

After two 2-1 away defeats on the spin the return of Furlong and the 442 seemed to work wonders. QPR went ahead with a penalty from Gallen after 3 minutes after Santos was fouled in the box. 2 minutes later Santos nodded home a Lee Cook free kick and Furlong finished the game with a 23rd minute strike. That was it, match done.

That puts us 4th in the table, 1 point off of second and 4 behind the leaders Wigan, who also have a game in hand.

I'm off to see a man about a dog.

Bring Back Brian? Charlton's Match Announcer Sacked

I say Bring Back Brian

Charlton FC have seemingly gone a little over the top with the poltical correctness and have Sacked Their Match Announcer Brian Cole

Micky Quinn and Chris Cooper have started a "Bring Back Brian" campaign because they have taken bundles of calls on talkSPORT radio from Palace fans who were not upset by the Charlton Announcer's comments whatsoever.

Apparently Brian Cole said "Them Lot" and the words Crystal Pal-Arse instead of Crystal Palace. For this he was relieved of his Charlton match announcer duties at half time and subsequently sacked today by the club.

Match Announcer Brian Cole has issued an apology to the club.
Brian Cole's Apology
It is with much sadness that I accept that the club have decided to dispense with my services over my announcements last night.

I have extended apologies to the Chairman, Directors and Chief Executive of Charlton Athletic Football Club over any embarrassment caused by my announcement last night. I would also like to apologise to the Directors and CEO of Crystal Palace who were offended by the remarks.

At the time I did not feel that my comments were any worse than we as Charlton Supporters have endured from announcers at some other grounds. However this is not an excuse and with hindsight I know that I made a gross error of judgement and I can only once again apologise for putting Charlton Athletic Football Club in this embarrassing position.
Brian Cole
QPR Jon Comment.
I wonder what Inspector Sands of the Charlton blog will say? At the moment it is All Quiet In The East Stand

I say Bring Back Brian. He is a good match announcer by all accounts and football clubs make a lot of money from heated rivalry. Charlton and Palace have a very lively rivalry indeed.

Charlton are just being harsh to their match announcer Brian Cole to avoid any flak from the F.A because Crystal Palace officials complained and said it will go into their match report to the Football Association.
Charlton should Bring Back Brian!
Bring Back Brian Update 7.10pm GMT
The radio is carrying the story about Charlton sacking their Match Announcer Brian Cole on every news bulleting. Seems like Charlton sacking Brian has caused quite a stir.

More of Brian Cole can be found on the Charlton Addicks website and on the Charlton Live site. Brian will be doing a live broadcast on the internet on this Sunday, October 30, at 20:30 GMT. Listen in if you can, I am sure Brian will have something to say on the matter of his sacking. Keep up with Brian and his Internet radio broadcasts for Charlton on the Charlton Live Forum
Bring Back Brian Update 8.05pm GMT
Adrian Durham and Gary Stevens have dedicated their whole show to the ridiculousness of Brian Cole being sacked by Charlton because Crystal Palace officials are cry babies. Crystal Palace fans may I add did not cry atall. They laughed all the way home after 10 of their reserve team beat the Charlton best 11.

Gary Stevens is the ex Tottenham footballer and Ex Tottenham Match Announcer who recently said he'd prefer to play Frank Lampard at anchor man before Steven Gerrard. Adrian Durham is the ginger guy who reckons he would be a better football manager than Sven or Fergie. He is however, bordering on the best radio match commentator I've ever heard, it's just his football punditry than is ridiculous.

The good news is Adrian Durham and Gary Stevens have got something right at last. Charlton Should Bring Back Brian!

Bring Back Brian Update (october 30)
This is Brian Cole's final statement regarding Charlton sacking him, posted on his Brian Cole Homepage

Following on from Palace.. I would like to make a couple of points regarding my sacking as Charlton pitch announcer. Brian Cole

It has been suggested in the media that I mis-pronounced the names of Palace players when reading their team. I categorically deny this and read every Palace player correctly. I did however read them out quickly and in a monotone voice in order to prevent the Palace fans the opportunity to cheer their players names.

Regarding incidents outside the ground I had no knowledge of them happening at that time and to suggest that me saying "Palarse" instead of "Palace" could be in any way linked to a few idiots outside the ground is quite inexplicable. To suggest that my play on words was in any way provocative does appear tenuous at best and certainly no more provocative than Charlton showing the 2 victories over Palace from our Championship season on the big screen at the away end of the ground.

Peter Varney has suggested that I was suspended from making any announcements at half time. I was never informed of this, the main reason being that I didn't have any announcements to make and therefore didn't even attempt to leave my seat in the East stand at half time.

I did however, speak to the Chief CAFC Security officer John Little in the police control room just after the kick off and extended my apologies to Varney through John and was informed by John not to worry and that he would convey those apologies.

I left the ground at full time unaware of any official complaint from the Palace officials.

The next day I went to work as usual with the intention of ringing the club during my lunch break. At approx. 11 am I received a phone call from a friend who told me the CAFC website had announced that Peter Varney had sacked me

I broke off from my job to ring Peter Varney who returned my call some 30 minutes later. I asked why he felt it necessary to sack me publicly through the website before he had informed me.

He said he did not have my phone number and that he had sent me an email outlining his decision. FACT: The club do have my phone numbers and at least 1 member of staff involved in the pitch presentation process has my mobile number.

I agreed with Varney that my position was now untenable and agreed to issue a statement of apology to both club's directors. This I duly did on this website and via email to Peter Varney. My statement also appeared in the general media.

In the match programme against Middlesborough Varney clearly stated his reasons for my sacking but no mention was made of the statement of apology from me which was very disappointing. Brian Cole

Richard Johnson Sent On Loan To MK Dons For A Month

Richard Johnson Has Been Sent On Loan To The Wimbledon Of Milton Keynes

Australian international Richard Johnson is off to the Milton Keynes Dons for a 1 month loan. Johnson, a hard working midfielder has'nt really done very much at Rangers and to be honest, I can't work out whether he is a ballwinner or a playmaker.

MK Dons manager Stuart Murdoch is apparently short of midfielders and Johnson will be looking to help out the Dons and himself in the process by getting a run of games under his belt.

I hope Richard Johnson does well at MK Dons I think there is room in QPR's midfield for a decent midfielder who can pass the ball around and create stuff while Bircham runs around tackling everyone.

At 5'10 Johnson and Bircham really would be short on a bit of height and I prefer Marcus Bean to play next to Bircham. Marcus Bean is big enough and fast but he too has'nt impressed me as being a decent ballwinner or a creator. Pretty much explains why Gallen at 5'11 has ended up in midfeild. Gallen can pass and is quetly more physical than his gentle shooting style suggests.

Marcus Bean is a promising youth who got the young players of the year award accolade from the fans. He is noted by the club as being a combative midfielder who breaks up the opposition attacks well. I think Richard Johnson is probably in the same kind of mould, as is Bircham so maybe it is best for Johnson to leave QPR, who knows? I gather MK Dons will be looking to extend Johnson's loan period.

QPR Lose To Wolves 2 - 1

Wolves beat QPR 2-1 with 2 goals from Carl Cort in the pissing rain at the Molineux.

Wolves were lucky to bump into QPR with Furlong out of the team and we ended up playing a 4-5-1 formation with Kevin Gallen running around up front on his own for most of the match.

Frankie Simek did okay at the back next to Santos and our 16 year old striker Donnelly nearly nicked one for Rangers after coming on with 25 minutes to go to partner Gallen up front. A pity Donnelly could'nt convert because Gallen lofted one over the Wolves goalie in the 90th minute.

Matthew Rose came back into the side at left back after getting over his bruised foot, Gino Padula was back on the bench.

QPR battled well as per what Holloway requires and Furlong is already back in training, therefore bad news for Burnley who visit Loftus Road next saturday (October 30)

Holloway Likes Frank Simek

Frank Simek Is "Terrific" says Holloway

Frank Simek who?

1) Frankie Simek is an Arsenal reserve player.
2) Frankie Simek is only 20 years old.
3) Frankie Simek is from America and plays at centre back. Simek was noticed by fellow centre back Tony Gale when he was 12 and soon joined the Arsenal academy.
4) Frankie Simek played for QPR on wednesday after meeting the rest of the QPR players on tuesday
5) Frankie Simek pleased Ian Holloway no end on his first start for QPR, which ain't easy to do.

If QPR sign him permanently I will be very surprised. Apparently Frank is earmarked by Arsenal as one to watch in the future and is probably only on loan gaining 1st team experience.

Let's hope the boy Simek keeps pleasing Holloway. He replaced Danny Shittu who was injured. Maybe Simek will keep his place if Shittu returns from injury because Santos had a bad game, even though he scored the opener against Preston.

Tim Breacker Wrongly Accused

Tim Breacker was sent from the dugout to the stands yesterday in QPR's 2-1 defeat at Preston. Police were needed to seperate 2 teams worth of brawling players and management, but the referee managed to single out Breacker for the boot.

Police were needed to separate the two parties, who had become incensed by a scuffle involving QPR's spiky midfielder Marc Bircham and Preston's Eddie Lewis

QPR Manager Says Breacker Was Wrongly Accused
Rangers manager Ian Holloway claimed former QPR and West Ham full-back Breacker was an innocent party in the melee that followed and hopes the red card can be rescinded.

"Tim's an honest fellow and he says that he restrained someone who threw a punch," Holloway said. "I'm not sure how good the referee's view was. We'll have to wait and see."

QPR Lose 2-1 Away To Preston

Preston Versus QPR Match Report Roundup

Preston - 2
(Healy 11)
(Cresswell 78 pen)

QPR - 1
(Santos 8)
Attendance 10,548

QPR went down 2-1 tonight at Preston to end our 7 game winning run. QPR were after a club record 8 wins in a row but we stumbled at the last hurdle.

I am not privvy to why Rose was on the bench with Gino Padula back in at left back. If it was a selection not borne out of injury Ian Holloway will have to wonder whether he made the right decision playing Gino because it was Padula's handball in the 78th minute that proved decisive.Richard Cresswell scored the penalty.

I think Kevin Mcleod played up front with Furlong in place of the injured Cureton. Gallen must have therefore stayed in midfield.

The ref gave 2 penalties to Preston but David Healy missed the first. Healy scored the equaliser after QPR's scorer Santos flopped in defence by apparently allowing the Preston goalkeepers clearance to bounce over his head.

We have Wolves next and I don't care who Holloway plays. All I want is the boys to keep pushing the level of their performances, without trying too hard and ruining their form, therefore causing panic and then plummet.

QPR and Paladini

Paladini is an Italian who presided over keeping Rangers out of a second administration by securing funds and guarantors from Monte Carlo.
Paladini stuck 750k of his own money into the club too. When he asked questions over the 10 million quid loan to ABC he was pushed away. Gladly, Paladini will not be moved ~ and he ain't even a born Ranger.
Queens Park Rangers happened by chance. Paladini professes no spiritual affinity or ancestral connection. It was love at first sight. "You don't have to know a woman for 40 years before you take her to bed."said Paladini
Telegraph ] Love at first sight for QPR and Paladini

QPR fans know full well we Rangers have been in a mess financially pretty much half way through Chris Wright's tenure in the QPR boardroom.

Since then QPR have been in and then out of administration, £10 million loans with stupid annual interest payments of £1 million and the surfacing recently accusations of a dodgy administrator (Ray Hooking) being involved in taking on that £10 million loan. Why take a loan at 8% interest when you were told 6% the day before?

Through it all we are 3rd in the 1st division championship with our ex ballwinner for Ray Wilkins, "Ian Holloway" screaming his way through different levels of the football leagues, literally.

Ian Holloway Just After 50 Points First.

TEAM-talk.com Football ] Ian Holloway Just Looking For 50 Points First

QPR are on 26 points at the moment and are sitting third in the Championship Division 1. After coming from the 2nd division last season Holloway is not counting his chickens just yet. First off Holloway wants to avoid the drop by getting to 50 points and will take it from there.

I am hoping Holloway will find a big striker who can cover Furlong for the next 2 seasons. When we played without the presence of a big man up front against Watford this season Rangers looked dreadfull.

Ian Holloway say's "we have been lucky with injuries this season and that can change quickly".

QPR V West Ham Match Result

QPR (1)
Rose (21st minute)

West Ham (0)
Attendance 18363

QPR took all 3 point in a tight London derby versus West Ham at Loftus Road. The 1-0 win v West Ham is QPR's 7th win in a row.

Rangers pushed home the home advantage against an injury depleted West Ham side in good style. Cureton was quiet and was subbed for Mcleod with about 5 minutes to go. Danny Shittu was given a tough game by the West Ham players but all to no avail.

The winner from Rose was a decent curler from the edge of the box. Matthew Rose seems to have finally shaken off his injury worries and is keeping Gino Padula out of the team at left back. Rose has hit 2 winners in the last 4 games so Holloway's decision to leave out on of the QPR fans favourite is more than justified.

I heard the football match on the radio so cannot report on what I saw, only what I heard.

QPR Versus West Ham

QPR V West Ham (October, 16th 2004)

QPR take on West Ham United on saturday at Loftus Road.

Teddy Sheringham and Zamora will do their best to turn the Rangers over at the Loft. However, Furlong and Jamie Cureton are out-playing them at the moment. Gallen I guess will be in the midfield next to Bircham.

These are the games QPR Fans have been looking forward to for too long now. A home derby against West Ham beats playing Notts County away in the second division any day.

Rangers are sitting in 3rd, 2 places above West Ham and are on a roll. I am hoping we get 3 points because however easy things seem to be at the moment for us, it does'nt take long to lose your form. The quicker we get to 46 points or so, the happier I and the Russian QPR Fans will be.

QPR Riding High says Marcus Bignot

The FA

Marcus Bignot, QPR's right back at the moment and Birmingham Ladies Football Manager to boot, jots a few words down for the fa.com every week or so.

Bignot's latest offering is Rangers Riding High
(By Marcus Bignot)

Our manager Ian Holloway has just got the Manager of the Month award, and I think it is totally deserved. After our five wins in a row we are playing with a lot more confidence and freedom.

We knew the manager would get the award, because we have been playing very well this month. It was madness in August and September when people were starting to talk about him being under pressure - after only three or four games!

Paul Furlong is on fire at the moment, and Jamie Cureton has shown what we all knew he could do. We knew we had players who could score goals in the team, and we seem to be getting them for fun at the moment.

Winning breeds confidence, and while we have been putting in some good performances, our results didn't go our way at the beginning of the season.

But now the manager has got his award, the only way is down for us! Seriously though, we are not going to get complacent, and know we have to keep it up.

There are always some surprise packages among teams that are promoted - they seem to carry on the momentum. Wigan did it last season, and Plymouth got off to a flying start earlier in this one. There is no reason why it can't be us this time.
cached from Rangers Riding High

Good thing is QPR beat Stoke 1-0 after Marcus wrote this and we are now third.
