Spain 1
del Horno 9
England 0
Attendance 48,000.
Spain beat
England 1-0 at the Bernabeau Stadium with a headed goal from the Spanish left back Asier del Horno. Xavi swung in a corner, the England defence hesitated and del Horno scored, that was about it.
England looked out of sorts to be frank. However,
Spain played very well and we spent the game chasing shadows. Zven said "England under-performed" and was happy it was only a friendly, where no points were at stake.
A Memorable Match?
The game was most memorable for Wayne Rooney being substitued in the 41st minute by Sven, because Wayne seemed to be on the verge of being sent off. Maybe he was, maybe he was'nt, who knows?
The game was made most un-memorable by the racist Spanish fans who monkey chanted at the English black skinned players. It seemed to me Wright-Phillips got the worst abuse. The F.A will no doubt protest. I don't think we need to, I think Spain should know they have a problem to deal with, without our input.
Reyes moaned before the match about being targeted by Gary Neville and proceded to look for every opportunity to tempt Neville into a tackle, while actively looking to make it look like Neville was going in too hard.
All in all, England lost and Spain won in a niggly match. Gladly it was only a friendly heheh.
