Punter Robbed Of A Million Pound Win By Newmarket Stewards Decision
Punter Robbed Of A Million Pound Scoop 6 Win By Newmarket Racing Stewards Decision To Disqualify Babodana...
Jo from the The UK Gambling Blog points out the Highs and Lows of Gambling and gives a mention to the Stewards. As Jo say's, there is no comeback for gamblers, even if the Racing Stewards are later proven to be wrong.
In the full report below on the Sky Sports website you'll see the unlucky punter collected only 90 quid rather than nion 1 million pound because the Newmarket Racing Stewards disqualified Babodana.
Babodana's Trainer Mark Tompkins To Appeal Against Disqualification
Horse's Trainer Mark Tompkins is unhappy as stewards demote Babodana and this was before the news of the unlucky million pound punter's losing bet surfaced.
Mark Tompkins said he will "seek a deserved Group race" for Babodana next season and was fuming at the reversal of the placings.Daryll Holland and Jimmy Fortune were both given two-day careless riding bans (November 10 and 12), the former for allowing his mount to drift away from the whip, and the latter for causing earlier interference to the unplaced Funfair.
Trainer Mark Tompkins also said: "We will definitely appeal. The stewards have definitely got it wrong."
1 Million Pound Scoop 6 Accumulator Winner Loses Out On A Disqualified Horse
Unlucky Punter Loses Million Pound Accumulator On A Technicality
A punter missed out on a near 1 million windfall on the horses and instead had to settle for a paltry 90 when his jackpot winner was disqualified.
The unlucky gambler would have picked up a cheque for £957,714 had stewards not disqualified his horse.
Instead he has to make do with 90 for his £2 stake at a branch of Ladbrokes in Byker, Newcastle.
Britain's unluckiest punter has so far not come forward to claim his `winnings'.
Had stewards not disqualified Babodana from a race at Newmarket in favour of Little Indian yesterday the so far unidentified gambler would have been celebrating a life-changing win.
Apart from missing out on the payout of £857,714 there was additional agony because he had linked many of the same horses in an accumulator. Accordingly, if Babodana had won the race he would have netted another £100,000.
Instead, he had to make do with the £90 dividend because Babodana was demoted to second for blocking the other horse.
Billy McKeown, who runs the betting shop in Shields Road, said "I feel so desperately sorry for the guy".
"It was the win of a lifetime and then - it's gone. I don't know the name of the punter, he comes in every once in a while".
"Everyone in the shop was talking about it. We're waiting for him to come in to collect his 90, though I suspect he's in no mood to speak to anyone."
Gamblog Comment :: If the disqualified horse retakes the race on Mark Tompkin's appeal, the punter will NOT collect his million pound.
To avoid accusations of "rigged" and "racing is crooked", this case warrants an inquiry from outside sources.
I think the million pound involvement makes this case a rule maker and breaker. Really it cannot be acceptable that a Stewards error can cost a punter a million pound in cold blood.
Horse Racing and Betting is a multi million pound industry. The people involved need to pull their fingers out give the thing the respect it deserves. When one is dealing with such big money they had better get it right, before they lose that big money following to something more trustworthy and reliable.
Moral of the story?... Racing Steward(s) having a bad hair day should not be able cost the man on the street his 1 big win.
How's that for a fancy notion?
