"Now my aim was not to bow out through playing complacently. Still the cards came - still my all-ins went unchallenged. By the time my emergence as chip leader arrived ('You're the man,' someone texted) even my wife was starting to see poker as more than just a glorified parlour game. I spent the final break pacing our kitchen, feeling part god and part impostor. 'The only thing I'm worried about now is my internet connection going down...,' I said out loud.
