Azerbaijan V England Match Report From the F.AAzerbaijan - (0)
England - (1)
(Owen 22)
Attendance 15'000
England stay top of the World Cup qualifying group 6 after a reasonable 1-0 victory away to Azerbaijan
Jermaine Jenas started in place of the suspended and injured England captain David Beckham and Owen took the armband.
Ashley Cole set up the winner, a downward header from the deputising captain Michael Owen. Owen came with a nicely timed run from deep and scored well.
The blustery conditions in Baku made for a scrappy kind of game all considered. However, 3 points is 3 points and I would'nt have thought playing football in the freezing cold, wind blowing up a gale and not far enough off of the Northern-eastern border of Iran would be condusive to free flowing football.
Come on England!
