The Huddersfield Examiner reports about something that rarely gets mentioned in the press. Betting shops being robbed at gunpoint.
A Masked Gunman Has Robbed A Betting Shop in Huddersfeild, Sheepridge Road, Sheepridge at about half three in the afternoon while the shop was busy with punters. (The Jack Pearson Betting Shop) The robber pointed a gun at the 2 men behind the till and robbed them, simple as that. No punters jumped in ~ thankfully.
The decription given was one of a black man, aged about 23 or 24 and was about 5'10 tall. Apparently the guy wore a balaclava but was spotted hanging around outside beforehand ~ doh.
This story has reminded me of a school freind of mine (a betting shop manager) who has been robbed 3 times if I recall correctly, in one of my local bookies. It was rife a while back, people working in gangs robbing bookies because of the apparent high amounts of cash to be had, whereas other businesses were increasingly utilising credit cards and the like.
