Q: What is your name or online moniker?
A: Goddess
Q: What organisation or website do you represent or own?
A: My websites cater to women and gaming. I originally launched the Gamble Goddess in early 2001, due to the fact that statistics said online gamblers were predominantely women but nobody was catering to this niche market. I relaunched this site in 2003 under The Gamble Goddess My lastest project, and the one I am most excited about is the Women's Poker Club
Q: Could you explain what your organisation or website offers the public?
A: The Womens Poker Club was formed as I myself love the sport of Poker and know there are many women out there who would like to learn to be more competitive players but need a relaxed and congenial atmosphere to do it in. There are plenty of male players who don't feel that women should be at the table. Its ludricous, but I have experienced their condescending opinions myself. Many male players do not take their female opponents seriously. I want to encourage more women to become skilled competitors at poker by giving them a womens only venue so they can concentrate on improving their game.
Q: Any comments as to the current state of play regarding the online gaming industry?
A: Poker is hot right now. There are many members of Womens Poker Club that have been playing for six months or less. This is due in part to the large selection of poker software on the internet, the fact that you play with other players money and not the house which I think offers more trust to the players, and the WSOP being broadcast on tv. Also, where someone may not venture forth into a poker room to sit down and learn the game, the online experience is more anonymous and is less intimidating. We have many females in the club who play on male avatars or use male nicnames for example.
As far as the industry in general, it seems to always be in a flux. Eventually regulation will take care of the majority of gaming sites that may be shady and unethical, but until that time there will always be instances that are suspect in online gaming. That isn't to say that there aren't trustworthy sites out there, but a gambler should be prudent enough to do some research before venturing into an online casino today.
